When you start the writing may seem a bit stiff. It feels as if the author is not able to properly pull off the style of writing. But as you move past it, the individual characterization was pure awesomeness. Everybody has something to play with, it seems. A fantastic tale of intrigue. I think it is one of the very few fics who have actually managed to capture the real mechanism/feel from the books.

I especially liked Sansa and Margery. The intriguing machinations by Margery in 2nd chapter, specifically the mention of king in North was pure win. I would really like to read ahead on this.

OMG I think I've found the origin to the Prince that Was Promised. "Harry Potter undertones!"

Yes, the missing capital made me think you weren't referencing the specific fic in question.

One of my favorite fics, Times Like These, just got updated. The whole premise is that Robert died in a hunt accident, before Rhaegar had the chance to kidnap/run away with Lyanna. So Stannis finds it to be his duty to marry Lyanna, and things get pretty awesome from there.

Leave it to Stannis to claim Robert's woman.

"Lyanna Stark is mine, by right!"

The same writer who wrote that also wrote In Good Company, that fic where Stannis stays in King's Landing after Jon Arryn's death and bros it up with Ned. They are a great hardcore Stannis writer and fan and I love everything they do. Not to mention, they gave birth to my favourite new crack pairing: Stannis/Asha. Good freakin' times.

This story is excellent, heavy and very, very joyless, fascinating you it on a very sick level, just as a news story of a tragedy would.

Am really interested on how this is going to end.

Sansa and Arya are just so heart-wrenching to follow there. It kinda reminds me off Black Lagoon, when we see how fucked up Revy is and the snippets on how she came to be that way.

    What story is it?

How about 75% of the stories in the fandom.

When I read the description the first thing that came to mind was Harry and Fleur dry humping on a broom in the The Lie I've Lived

I also recommend reading Sera dy Relandrant's (the author of Water Dancers) other work. Her "The Year of the False Spring" was the first ASOIAF fanfic I read that stuck with me, at least.

I haven't read it yet. Is it good?

Edit: Read it. I like the other fics better.

Nice. Really nice. To make reader actually like Stannis' character is a feat in itself. Character development was done well for both Stannis and Lyanna. I liked the way Rickard was portrayed. Also, kudos for not making Lyanna a wild spirit like other fics tend to do. The inner monologue, at times, felt a bit over done and redundant. But a very nice read, indeed.

It's always nice to Stannis the Mannis portrayed in a likeable manner. I'm enjoying Times Like These.

I like the Stannis stories but the chapters are painfully short. At least both the stories are really starting to heat up.

On another note, are there any stories where Robb survives / isn't a part of the Red Wedding and does some badassery? I look up Robb (Jaime too) stories and I swear every other story is some OC story that makes me cringe.

Some OC that makes me cringe sums up most of the fics in the fandom to be honest, well that and Robb/Jon slash. Which may have what your looking for, but I have my doubts someone writing something about incestuous slash thinks about anything beyond, well incestuous slash.

I see what you guys mean about Water Dancers being hard to read. I can deal with the good guys having bad things happen to them, but I struggle when those bad things break them at such a fundamental level. Mainly it was just reading about how terrible of a person Sansa had become - and you can't even really blame her, given what she has had to go through.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It pretty much skims over any of the really important events and focuses purely on Ned/Cat angst and fluff.

Ned coincidentally finding his way to Last Hearth really shows that the focus of the fic is more about Ned/Cat than anything else.

I am writing a re-write of it already, but, the potential entertainment value of a good version of this is obvious.

Nothing good ever comes of a self-insert.
