Yeah, it's already been posted in the forum in the book thread. And Since Fox is the one who's bought the rights, they'll be the one to forecast it. No hope of HBO or AMC picking it up in the fordable future.

I don't want any established actors to play Kvothe,

Shit, in my excitement must have skimmed over the fox part. Id like to think it was my brain being in denial though. Ugh god they better not fuck it up.

Normally I would agree, but since Dark Knight and Heath Ledger, I abstain mysfelf from judging (too) hard until I see something. But a mostly unknown actor for the part would be better IMO.

I don't quite understand how Rothfuss sold the rights to Fox, given how much he seems to care for his universe. Especially as he's a massive Firefly fan. Either he sold the rights in such a way as to retain some measure of creative control, or he's completely sold out.

It's interesting that he hasn't done a blog post about it.

Fucking FOX. I'd be thrilled to have a fantasy series to watch again, though. There just isn't enough of that.

Rothfuss hasn't said anything about it before but it kinda makes sense... Don't want to give false hope to the fans... On the other hand they started making a deck of cards, and now a series. It seems he's grabbing with both hands the spoils of the books. Huge success with the books and with all the anticipation of the third book it seems the right time to monetize a bit. Good for him, I say and hope the series is a good one. Definitely waiting for it with baited breath.

Look at the name, it should be obvious.
If this thing ever comes to fruition, I want Damian Lewis to play Kvothe. He is what imagined when reading the books.

FX, and FXX, are owned by Fox.

Praying that will be on FXX, which will be "Aimed at young men between 18- and 34-years-old, the channel's programming will focus on original and acquired comedy series, some drama series and feature films".

FX has kept Always Sunny on the air for 9 seasons, so you know, I kind of trust them. (FX is moving all of its good shows to FXX)

I'm probably the biggest Damian Lewis fan I know, but he's just too old now. All the good ones are :/

Most of the pleasure of Kingkiller was in the prose and Kvothe's POV monologues. I'll continue to be skeptical of the success of transferring it over to TV until I actually see it with my own eyes.

    ^ What he said.

As for how Rothfuss sold the rights to Fox... could it be that they just made the best offer? I mean, the dude is anything but prolific. I'm sure he's making good cash from his sales, but he's only got two books out, and it takes him years to write them.

I can see him taking the cash.

Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Rothfuss will have his reasons, but I'd wager money isn't one of them. Although he only has two books, they have sold an absurd amount of copies.

I mean, we're talking about a man who for the last few years has quite comfortably donated hundreds of thousands to his Worldbuilder charity. I think last year alone he matched $500,000.

There's more here we haven't heard yet.

I'm hoping for Game of Thrones. I'm expecting Dresden Files. That should say it all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the vast majority of 'optioned' things, never see the television or movie screen? My guess, Fox looked the most interested in actually making it, not just owning the rights as a form of speculation.

But Joe's point is still a good one -- Rothfuss isn't hurting for funds, so why would he rush into something unless he had some information about it that we don't?
