You'd have to be really good then. I used one for the lulz during my fencing class. My god they are unwieldy.

Then again, these guys were training to fight pretty much all their lives. I can see where you're coming from though, spearsmen definitely have the reach advantage.

If I were to give Harry a spear, it wouldn't have a Valyrian steel tip. It'd just be all dragon bone.

Huh. Would that be strong enough to go up against weapons made of steel & Valyrian steel?

Dragonbone has been described as increadibly flexible (hence the bows), but I don't recall anyone every describing it as perticularly tough.

Google is your friend. Dragonbone is as strong as steel.

Not the best job but I thought I'd have a go at what the cover might look like.

    I don't know. I'm in New Orleans.

EDIT: Awesome pic by the way, Nuit.

I don't know why, but even when I'm thinking "when's the next update?", I get irrationally annoyed when I see someone ask. Cxjenius writes quality and long chapters. Cut the man a break.

Yes, eighty percent Welsh and twenty percent French. We're from Pembrokeshire. My family is very big on genealogy and family history.

A spear would be good, but I think a nice mace would suit Harry, you don't often see those in these kinds of stories or a morning star. It really all depends on whether he grows up to possess a Lannister build or takes after the Baratheons. I can't wait to see what sort of changes Harry has gone through under Tywin's tutelage.

Real life heraldry is so much more complex than Westeros's heraldry. It would take several paragraphs to describe some of the things I've seen on wikipedia.

As far as weapons go, he's still going to primarily use a sword. And a lance, later, when he's old enough.

G.R.R.M. mentioned once that King Robert is taller than Jaime, but not so tall as Sandor; I imagine, considering his mother is tall as well, that he'd be taller than his father, though mayhaps not as big as the king was in his youth.

On a side note, I've recently discovered the font/texture feature on ffn. Do any of you make use of it? It really makes the text 'pop'.

Please, please keep text format unchanged. I am not sure why but I read way faster text written in typical standard fonts.

You could always try it for a while and if everyone rages in fury, just put it back to default :)

You misinterpreted. I said I discovered the font/texture feature on FFN, as in fanfiction. net, and I asked if any of you use it. That's all.

There's a reason why novels are in fonts like Times New Roman, and titles are in fonts like Arial.

I use it sometimes. One of the darker backgrounds makes it easier on my eyes.

I leave the font in Verdana [ie. default]. On my laptop I use 1/2 width lines, so that it looks more like a novel. Some widescreens are too wide for comfortable reading.

On my phone I change the contrast to dark [white letters on very dark background] because I find it less harsh to read, especially in low light conditions.

As this thread is slowly but steadily transforming in "Santi 1.414213" I am closing it now.

I asked Cxjenious, and he is fine with keeping it locked until after his next update, whenever that might be.

I'd really love to see a Tywin-Harry interaction scene, maybe from someone else' perspective?

Excellent update, can't wait for the next one.

    Really can't wait.

Great update. I liked your use of the interlude as an excuse to write from Aeryn's perspective. I think it fleshed her character out a lot more than you've previously been able to when we see her viewed from other characters' perspectives.

As has been said, I'm eager to see inside one of these lessons that Harry is receiving from Tywin, perhaps on the subjects of leadership, statesmanship, war, diplomacy, etc. Tywin's perspective on these are all colored by his devotion to family, which I think you could use to great effect to make those lessons more interesting and a bit more out of left field than we might guess if they had been taught by anyone else.

So the scene where Aeryn walks off with a cup of Harry's baby batter, with I'm guessing a spell in mind, got the gears moving (it was also a very slow day at work).

The magic we've seen in westeros has been very ritualistic, blood has an incredible amount of power, and apparently so does cum. And so my brain made the connclection; what are the odds we see something along the lines of "Bone of the Father" poping up.

I'm not thinking about Ned, or any Westeros character. The servent part of that ritual doesn't seem to me to translate very well with vassals. Bloodriders, on the other hand...
