To be fair, it's been so long that I'd forgotten about that. But even then, it's better than the only other two Otogakure!Naruto I've ever read. Sad times.

Nothing special about that fic. First chapter was annoying, I dropped it right there and then. There isn't phones in the naruto-verse, why the hell do you think they used messenger hawks?

It doesn't. On one hand, they have TVs, radios, and advanced medical equipment (at the very least, an EKG), and on the other, trains and crossbows are fancy new shit. It's quite eclectic and seems like Naruto tech can be summed up as "Whatever Kishimoto thinks is convenient for the plot".

 

I just keep telling myself. Post-Apocalypse.

 

That's the closest I can think of, too. The Sage of Six Paths probably appeared some years after the apocalypse happened, bringing knowledge of Chakra to a world that had fallen apart.

 

Odd, when it first came up to me(way into the manga, I was never one to question premise of settings unless into the specific subject) I just figured it was mostly references that aren't really supposed to be in the story like the whole punch and people flying or pervert reaction being to beat the guy to a mess(always annoys me when people use those seriously) and the work of lone people who use jutsu to realize everything and when they do teach things the students do the same so their progress of technology vastly differs. Though the whole summoning idea does make some sense.

 

I remember this. I read a bit more than a few chapters, but it got boring pretty quickly. Lucia, the OC, is portrayed as some kind of mysterious, dangerous non-ninja and everyone's wondering what she's up to. And that goes on for many chapters. It's not written badly, but it's a bit too slow, IMO.

 

I read quite a bit of it but got kind of bored when Sasuke stopped being a douche. Around when the little sister was kidnapped.

 

I liked the idea that Dreaming of Sunshine introduced, that the ninja came down forcefully on any inventions that would be a danger to the status quo that made ninja so dangerous. Stuff like telephones (even though that have limited wireless communication) and cars and guns would make their lives harder so whenever someone comes close to inventing stuff like that, they "disappear".

Or when someone discovers something, it isn't shared at all, as everyone is hoarding knowledge like that.

A bit shaky overall but I have yet to hear a better explanation for this.

 

Captured was just updated, a pretty boss story from what I remember. Might have to go back and re-read the entire thing to make sense of it.

I liked Captured, but it had some pretty annoying parts to it as well. Sakura utterly outclassing Sasuke after half of year of training was pretty ridiculous :/

 

Agreed Captured was good. I liked what it did about the whole real soldiers and glorified soldiers kind of thing but the whole bashing thing was just meh for me.

 

What's Captured about? I think I've read it, but for the life of me, I can't seem to remember anything about it at all.

 

IIRC, Naruto and Sakura flunk the genin test and get dropped into a program for all the losers which puts them on an accelerated course for becoming chuunin.

 

The reserve program was a nice idea. From what I remember though it turned into a slight bashing fic. The lower classed reserve shinobi went around kicking the upper class normal shinobi around, I lost interest around then. If the program was as successful as the author wanted it there would be no need for the academy, the author was just treating it as a school for the snobby clan shinobi.

Maybe that was another fic I'm thinking of? Been a couple reserve program ones.

 

Yeah, I was the same.

I like the idea that you might have your showcase ninja that wow clients, are flashy and bring in the commercial business with other ninja hidden in the background, not giving away their capabilities and generally acting like "real" ninja.

But it annoyed me that the reserve ninja were somehow miles above the normal ones. A more standardized training makes sense (while young ninja from big clans would probably be trained by their families), but they shouldn't be weaker - just have a different focus.
