I can't believe no one mentioned Naruto-Ouroboros. It has shown up in this thread before, and I think the almost rec'd thread. Someone may have put it up for review, I don't remember. Bottom line is, this is a great fic with Orochimaru-mentored Naruto who isn't a Jinchuuriki. Easily Library material.

I can see how you missed it but purple did link it. About the story itself, I liked it for a while but later on I got a bit bored with Naruto's character. Nothing wrong per se but just not the type of Naruto I like to read about.

Cold-blooded scientist pretty much summarizes Naruto's character in Ouroboros. I think he'd be more interesting with some different attributes to his personality.

Last few chapters have lessened my interest anyway, sadly.

 

I stopped caring around the time he went to the Bloody Mist and the author tried to shove some 'Moonlighting' down our throats with the whole romantic subplot. I still read it, I just don't much care anymore.

Though the end of the last chapter makes me... interested.

 

The romance certainly felt forced, but I wasn't expecting anything more from a Naruto fanfic about an Orochimaru-trained Naruto. The story is still holding my interest, though I would have preferred for a more external conflict than more daddy issues.

 

The romance is probably the weakest part. It doesn't take much for me to enjoy romance in fiction but I found myself cringing at a few scenes. The only thing it has going for it is that Naruto/Mei is unexplored territory and has interesting implications.

Gotta agree about the external conflict vs internal conflict too.

 

Does anyone know quality fics where Naruto's personality is canon-ish, but he still rocks?
The only one I remember is Naruto: Altered History by Geor-sama.

Pretty sure this isn't what you're looking for, but Twenty Times Uzumaki Naruto Didn't Die has a pretty canon-ish Naruto, you know, if he was immortal and shit. Well, at least he's canon for the first ten or twelve vignettes.

It's a one-shot, but Naruto remains pretty awesome regardless.

 

While I do think it is certainly a good one I felt I should add that it is also certainly depressing. Everytime I read it I feel like a masochist and now that you brought it up I am going to read it again.

 

That story will NEVER stop being amazing. So many possibilities to branch off from every single one of the 20 entries.

That Itachi is how I will always see him as, what he could become before the universe was filled with deus ex machinas or even in spite of them.

The final entry's Naruto is one I could easily see as a bleach crossover. Not a Naruto replaces Ichigo but more of a giant wank of how above everyone he is while in the same style as this one, short excerpts of a much larger story that would lose quality if it was 100K+ words. It would still be Naruto thus still interesting, though I'm pretty sure the conlfict of such a story would not be in the fights. More likely his monologue, his introspection or how his presence affects other characters, through his eyes of course.

Of course as I write this I realize any story built off this would never keep the same feel as the 20 truths stories do, even if it was written by the same author.

Doesn't stop me from Wanting a fic like that.

Now I'm curious, has anyone else had great imaginings from this particular story?

 

Actually, it would be amusing to read a fic where Itachi killed his clan and after gaining Mangekyou Sharingan crushed his eyes just to test his capacity.

 

Okay, I'm looking for fanfic where Minato is alive and Naruto just returned to Konoha with Jiraiya. I think, Izumo and Kotetsu who watched the reunion of father and son believed them to be lovers and spread the rumour. The first mission starts when Naruto with Team Guy goes to Fire Temple to reseal some scroll of Tobirama. At Fire Temple they met Orochimaru's minions who want to steal this scroll.

That's all I remember, really.

 

After rereading The Girl From the Whirpool, I was wondering has anyone ever came across a proper Team 7 (the Rookies) in general living through War? Not necessarily the War starting after the Chuunin Exams, but before?

 

I'm looking for fics that have Orochimaru as a good guy. Anyone?

 

Actually, the immortal Naruto living into modern day and crossing over with Bleach has been done already by Kenchi618 (Link). I don't remember if the story is actually any good though. And it's certainly not done in the same style.

 

Is there anything like this, minus the Bleach part?
