Nagato's summons don't seem any different from other kinds of summons; the exception being the dog but his multiplying ability comes from one of Nagato's jutsu.

 

I don't see why that would be a requirement. I don't believe Madara finished off his brother.

I'd definitely classify a couple of them as odd. The Chameleon with a snake as a tail for example. Anyway I like the idea of him creating the summons more than him tracking down giant animals.

 

Jiraiya has a scroll toad, Danzo has a mythological creature and Tayuya summons three demons so the chameleon doesn't stand out that much to me. I think he probably stole the summons from defeated enemies but I can agree that Nagato making his own summons has a cool factor to it.

 

Nah. It's the merger of two different chakras that changes the Mangekyou to the EMS, not the eyes themselves. About why the don't just have everyone do it....Remember, the Uchiha is the clan that values love the most. Killing a loved one or having them killed just to activate the Mangekyou would not sit well with them. Even within the clan, the Mangekyou was refered to as "cursed".

 

Well given Tobirama's explanation and what we've seen I'd guess that you just have to see them die instead of having to actually kill them yourself. There's probably also some X Factor involved like the power of the Uchiha. I think it was said that some Uchiha killed their loved ones and still couldn't awaken the MS. Though I suppose it could be said that any Uchiha willing to do that for power didn't care enough to generate enough despair/hatred to evolve their eyes. Theoretically the deaths of your loved ones shouldn't be strictly necessary at all. I imagine that someone with genjutsu like Itachi could subtly Tsukuyomi someone and make them believe that the loved one died. They would probably only break out of it after their eyes evolve.

 

If that was the case, then you'd think Sasuke would've at least awoken the regular Sharingan when Itachi first Tsukuyomi'd him.

 

He did awaken it shortly afterwards.

I think in the anime Itachi erases Sasuke's memory of awakening the Sharingan?
