Hagrid's mother was a giantess. Hagrid's dad was human.

Still kinda squicky, but nobody gets ripped to pieces.

There's a scene somewhere in The Wizard Knight, a fantasy series, that deals with that. It's been a while since I read it, but that kind of thing sticks with you...

Essentially, the woman treats the giant's penis like a man in it's own right, hugging and kissing it, straddling parts of it, and so on.
Sometimes, in the resulting 'shower', she can end up pregnant.
Birth will always kill the woman.

I assume, for a man/giantess, it would be a case of cave explorer.

However those giants are typical fantasy giants, over 50 feet tall, which might have made things a bit different for Mrs Hagrid.

    Maybe Hagrid's father used polyjuice?

A lot of people seem to be of the opinion that Lily was better than James at magic, and I've been wondering, is this just some fanon thing or is it actually supported by canon?

We know that James was good at transfiguration and flying. He was an animagus at 15-16, and given the Marauder's map and his reputation as a prankster, he was at least creative with his magic and at least somewhat talented, as based on Fred and George, the only pranksters shown in practice. Also, he was head boy, if I'm not confusing fanon and canon.

Lily was talented in charms and potions and was also head girl. So I generally assume that they were more or less equally talented or that James may have had a very slight edge.

So was there something in the books that indicates that Lily was actually better?

It seems that she engineered vanquishing Voldemort - how it was done depends on interpretation, from dumb luck through power of love or in some fanon interpretations - elaborate ritual.

The last one would indicate something like this, but this is pure fanon, going against canon and out-of-books explanations.

James co-created the Marauder's Map and became an Animagus.

What did Lily achieve, except dying?

They were Head Boy and Head Girl -- I always assumed that they were similarly intelligent. James maybe a bit more on the creative side (pranks, etc.) and when he has a clear goal (animagus), and Lily perhaps a bit more "book smart" like Hermione was.

Can you find even one tiny shred of evidence that supports the claim thay canon Lily had any idea that there was a chance if she sacrificed herself after Voldemort let her live, Harry might be saved?

I surr as hell cant think of any, and the text just makes her sound like a desperate mother trying to keep her child from being killed. Fanon stuff aside, it seems that most evidence we have for Lily having any aptitude above the norm is all informed (thrice defied him, potions and charms from Slughorn, etc.) Knowledge.

So then why does everyone seem to operate on Lily>>James logic?

Even here, when Taure made up the scale for rating wizards, Lily was at 2, just below Dumbledore and James seemed to shift between 3 and 4 as per different people. It can't be just the 'dangerous chicks are hotter' mentality, can it?

No, but it seems to be source of this part of fanon.

And despite what Rowling declared in interviews - it is unlikely that it was the first situation like this, and canon explanation of what happened was rather poor.

I think Taure put Lily at 2, because she was doing intentional wandless magic as a child, similiar to Tom Riddle.

Yes, from Snape's memories. She was manipulating flower, and literally flowing down after swinging high in playground, I think.

She was doing it intentionally? Or was that more like accidental magic? I really shouldn't have skimmed book 7 as much as I did I suppose...

Apparently James could also cast silently by fifth year. Harry's parents were so much more badass than him it hurts sometimes.
