I like it too - but only when it's done well. Which means:

    1. It has to feel like a real class.

    2. Harry has to do well.

Number 2 because I only like reading competent Harry (where I consider competence straight Os in all practical magic classes - if Percy can do it, so can Harry).

Number 1 is the real problem. Most often classes in fanfiction are a way for the author to tell the reader something - to go on about their pet theory of magic, or commonly dodgy magical ethics. You'll have a teacher give a speech that would take 2 minutes for a person to say in real life, a few questions and answers, then bam, the lesson is done.

Real lessons involve more than presentation of the facts, questions, then "go off and practice it". There should be exercises, projects, essays, etc.

It's something I tried to show in Alexandra Potter classes. Homework like making a poster about a famous historical figure in magic (Alex chose Ptolemy). That's the kind of work 11 year olds get given and spend classes doing.

Was it ever mentioned anywhere that Percy got all O's in his NEWTS? The only mention I remember is a passing sentence in the end of POA.

    Isn't that enough?

Pretty sure there's a whole thread about how great Percy is.

Harry Potter and the Darkspawn Horde Author: Locathah
Harry's day takes a turn for the worse when he finds himself thrown out of New York and head first into a cavern wall in Thedas. Then the dragon tries to eat him. But it isn't until a cursed army of contagious monsters turn up to tear him limb from limb that Harry finally realizes that someone is probably sending him a message. On the upside, at least he isn't dead.

A HP/Dragon Age crossover. A quite witty Harry, though extremely able and confident, does never appear to be just a Super!Stu in this story. The plot "seems" to be canon up to HBP I think, a bit unsure here. He left the UK after winning against Voldemort but later loosing his friends. The details here don't seem to be really important to the story though. It starts with Harry in New York on some operation with some other forces against some resident Dark Wizard. As "expected" that operation goes horrible wrong and he arrives somewhere else.

Grindlewald and his ancestor and a Prewett are mentioned, to a minor degree. This "alternative" dimension seems to have a strange connection to the normal world but I'm not sure if more comes about this.
The level of detail into the world, minor characters and interaction never feels artificial or shallow. If the quality stays the same and more of the plot is revealed this has definitely potential for more than Almost. I like it and it's worth trying out.

I've been reading this, but it truly belons to almost recc'ed thread. Tbh i didnt like the author chose to portray Cousland as an antagonist. It's fun though.

Harry Potter and the Darkspawn Horde was a fun read.

I thought Harry's characterisation was inconsistent at one point, when he turned down the maid, in comparison to how he was eager to sleep with Cindy in chapter one. Other than that, the characterisation has been stable.

And there's the 'magical exhaustion', which is blah. It just rubs me the wrong way whenever I see it now - which is clearly Taure's fault.

    The spelling needs a beta.

Those three problems are the reason I give this a 4/5. Fixing any two of them would get this a 5/5 easily.

Not really inconsistent in that regard. Cindy, I'd imagine wanted no strings sex, the maid wanted marriage and children from someone she perceived as being a noble or whatever.

It'd be a pretty dick move to sleep with her knowing that.

As for the Cousland antagonist and what happened in the tomb, god, i loved all that.

Voldemort won the war. Harry Evans attends Hogwarts where discrimination is rampant. Voldemort rules Britain but a Resistance movement is fighting back. No one knows much about them for sure, except for their name: The Marauders. Fourth Year. TriWizard Tournament. AU.

Basically the premise here is that there is no "Boy Who Lived" and that Voldemort ended up winning the war. After he won the war he obviously took over and racism runs rampant. It's nothing overly groundbreaking but the writing is decent, and, according to the authors profile, he has 4th year all mapped out. I also really enjoy the characterizations of Regulus Black and the muggleborns thus far.

There are problems but I think "Almost Recommended" is where this story belongs.

Voldemort is not an unhinged and mad psychopath, characterization in general is ranging from OK to well done, sometimes there is something wrong with style, but I was never able to really identify what. It seems likely that it will stay interesting (but I really hope that canon tasks will not be rehashed, this would be awful).

Also, I like Hermione as a major character (plus - it is rare story with Harry and Hermione as main characters without romance). I usually strongly dislike Fleur, but here she somehow seems to also be well done.

But it is only start and it may collapse or end abandoned.

I've liked Champion so far. The writing could use some work, but if it stays consistent, maybe even get slightly better, it can easily make the library.

Harry was exiled from the Wizarding World after the war. Almost destitute, he finds a job that makes full use of the skill set that he has. On the way, he meets a young spider whose skills match his own and a partnership develops.

Its a Harry Potter/Avengers crossover, but the its still way before any of the Marvel movies begin.

Harry is an assassin and partners with Black Widow when she's 14. Pretty much they just kill together and he helps train her a bit. Harry's characterization is pretty ridiculous; he loves killing, goes by 'Basilisk' to better fit in with the Marvel Universe, and was exiled by the ministry after the war. He doesn't do much visible magic, instead using knives and martial arts in order to not be caught by magical law enforcement. Magic definitely has a visible presence in his life and actions despite this.

The last few chapters have cleared the law enforcement issue up, so I'm hoping he does a lot more in the future. The thing that drew me into this fic despite all that is that he seems to be getting set up as a major enemy of SHIELD which I haven't seen done before. All around, its a guilty pleasure that I'd give a 2.5-3/5. If you've got nothing better to read, I'd suggest giving it a try.

So, basically - he's a Harry in nothing but name? I'll try it anyway, but "Snake", "bloodthirsty" and "assassin since he has nothing else to do" as well as physical combat really arn't Harry Potter.

I read this last week, when I found it perusing Shezza's favorites. Anyway, Harry is definitely OOC; He's more along the lines of Swimdraconian's Harry from Circular Reasoning, though definitely less awesome. So if you can deal with that, it's not too bad of a fic.

It's mildly entertaining. It's more Marvel fanfiction than Harry Potter fanfiction though.

Beautiful and somehow better than thousands of "I disliked canon parings" oneshots. But it is still "I disliked canon parings" oneshot.

I stopped reading after magic was classified as an energy and simple technology could defeat it. I don't want to start a magic vs. science debate so I will just say that it is a personal pet peeve for me and leave it that.
