Yeah, I've run into this problem as well. I love the concept, but since so many of the stories that feature this plot device include slash relationships, it's ridiculously difficult to find anything good.

I know of some stories that have a horcrux involved, but they are generally the diary horcux. The closest thing I can find to your request, however, is this. The link is opened between the Dark Lord and Harry, so I guess the horcrux is active, if not awake. Intriguing start, but, of course, no where near complete.

If you want ones in which the fact that Harry is a horcrux influences the Dark Lord or one of his soul fragments, rather than just ones where his scar is active, let me know, and I'll see what I've got. No promises on the quality though.


P.S: As an afterthought, I remembering reading through the beginning of Dark Memories. I think he gains the memories from the horcrux, but I couldn't get myself to read it for some reason. If it weren't for the scarcity of decent stories in the genre, I wouldn't have rec'ed it at all. But hey, here you go.

That's one of the plotlines in my When a Veela Cries. I'm rewriting the first two or three chapters because in hindsight it's rocky writing to say the least, but I've had quite a few comments that the writing got quite a bit better quickly.

Anyway, give it a shot if you want. Fair warning: there's quite a bit of angst, character death, and other stuff in there was well.

BTW - I usually refrain from self promotion of a story, but that's one plotline I really haven't seen much of, so I thought I'd offer it. Also, it's a subplot, so while it's there, you feel it a lot more in the affect it has on the rest of the story.

 

There was an one-shot which was Dumbledore- & Flamel-centric, explaining the men's friendship and why Dumbledore was the one setting up defence for the stone - because Flamel actually wasn't a wizard, but a muggle alchemist who got lucky and created the philosopher's stone by a fluke. Does anyone know what the name is of this story?

It isn't exactly ground hog day, they just go back whenever they die. But there are several timelines in there.

 

I wouldn't necessarily qualify Temporal Beacon as good. Average at the beginning, and mediocre after that, with a major YMMV tag if you read past more than the first Triwizard tournament arc. I've enjoyed reading it on occasion, but I'd be hesitant to call it a good story.

 

Top choices for a Harry attends Durmstrang fic?

 

Not many worth speaking of beyond HP&BWL. Lord Voldemort and the Intricate Plots isn't bad. A bit of a slow start but it starts to get really interesting in the last few chapters. Can't think of much else that isn't slash or just awful.

I can't tell you if it is any good, I just know he goes to Durmstrang. The main thing that is memorable is that the author wrote close to 1.6 million words for that and its uncompleted sequel.

I read parts of this several years back. The Durmstrang bits are good. But it is slash, and it's quite intrusive. It's a long story, and skimming will get tiresome after awhile. I think I only made it like 200,000 words, skipping over all the buttsecks parts (it doesn't start right away), but honestly, if it wasn't for the needless slash, it would be a readable story, but as such, I wouldn't even bother skimming it. I guess authors haven't figured out that it's possible to have a character being gay, without actually having to include sex scenes showing it off.

The Havoc side of the Force by Tsu Doh Nimh is a HP/Star Wars crossover that is quite good. It's in the library, so you may have read it.

Browncoat, Green Eyes by nonjon is quite popular, so you're likely familiar with it as well. Oh, and it's a Firefly crossover.

You Can't Take the Sky From Me by LordAnarchy is another Firefly crossover. Though it's well written, it was too short for the plot to really develop, IIRC.

The Star Hegemony by RahXephon, a Mass Effect crossover, is rather well written. Whether it's worth your time or not depends on whether you can stomach the rape scenes and ignore/accept the psychopathic personality of the protagonist. The author has several other stories that are similar, though not crossovers.

Gods Among Us by arturus is a HP/Battlestar Galactica fic. The author told me in a pm that he/she is working on improving the writing, but at the moment it seems like the fic is missing a few hundred commas.

The original universe one was probably the best version of that fic he wrote. He even dialed back the rape to 8 or so.


I'm looking for an old fic. It's one of those Harry goes off and starts his own school fic's. The one thing I remember that set it apart from all the others was that the school was on a beach and he took most of Hogwarts teachers with him.

It was a rather terrible, everyone kept going on about how great harry is and just doesn't know it. But it has been stuck in my head for a week now and I can't for the life of me find it.
