0001 - Canon Universe. All was well.

0002 - Wizards out-bred muggles during the times of the Roman Empire.

0003 - Only way to have a magical child is if both parents are magical.

0004 - Magic is X-linked, it is fairly rare for a non pureblood girl to be magical.

0005 - Speaking Parseltongue and other beast-tongues is common.

0006 - Dragons are not dumb beasts, but instead have human-level intelligence. The wizarding world is locked in a centuries-old on-again off-again war with them.

0007 - Dementors never existed.

0008 - Every spell cast shortens the caster's life span.

0009 - Barring accidents or homicide, Witches and Wizards can live indefinitely.

0010 - It hurts to cast spells. The more potent the spell, the more pain is involved.

0033 - A wizard in 1910 made a succesful trip to the moon, creating a wave of wizarding colonization of space.

0054 - Instead of spreading his views using terrorism, Voldemort ended up as the Minister for Magic and began ruling with an iron fist.

0055 - In the 1960s, Voldemort discovered that the Gaunt Ring is the Resurrection Stone and created a giant army of inferi.

0057 - During the first war, Moody became a vigilante and started murdering death eaters and other criminals.

0061 - Voldemort was born a few years before Lily and James. His rise of power took place during Harry's Hogwarts years.

0064 - Snape drugged Lily with Amortentia during their Hogwarts years.

0065 - Lupin killed Snape during that fateful prank-gone-wrong.

0066 - Lucius Malfoy learned of Tom Riddle's parentage and revealed it to the rest of pureblood society.

0067 - During their Hogwarts years, Snape tricked James Potter into drinking Unicorn Blood.

0068 - Lily married Snape.

0069 - Draco was born a Squib.

0070 - Dudley was born a wizard too.

0071 - Harriet Potter was born instead of Harry.

0071 - Jasmine and Harry Potter are twins.

0072 - Sybill Trelawney never made her prophecy.

0073 - Upon learning the prophecy, the Potters left Britain.

0079 - Harry's scar was far more disfiguring, covering most of his face and making him very ugly.

0080 - The Dursleys refused to take in Harry.

0081 - Harry was born a metamorphomagus.

0082 - Ron Weasley was born a talented Musician and later became very famous.

0083 - Ron was the Boy Who Lived and his parents are dead, Ginny was never born.

0084 - Draco Malfoy was the Boy Who Lived and was raised by the Tonks family after his parents were killed.

0086 - Bellatrix kidnapped Harry after Voldemort was defeated.

0087 - The Lestranges did not torture the Longbottoms and used the Imperius excuse to evade justice.

0088 - After Voldemort's first defeat, the Death Eaters continued his campaign for several more years with Bellatrix as their new leader.

0089 - James returned as a ghost after death.

0090 - Sirius escaped the Aurors and was never put in Azkaban.

0091 - Sirius Black chose to take care of his godson, instead of chasing Peter.

0092 - Lily Potter was a Dark Witch and created her own Horcrux. She restored her body two years after Voldemort's first downfall and took Harry from the Dursleys.

0093 - Both of Luna's parents died and she was raised by the Malfoys.

0094 - The Dursleys were a loving family to Harry and accepted him for who he was.

0095 - The Killing Curse affected Harry's magic and it grew to be very wild and uncontrolled.

0096 - Harry was raised by cultists and believed himself to be the messiah.

0097 - During Harry's childhood, Petunia Dursley died in an automobile accident and the blood protection fell.

0098 - While playing in a park during his childhood, Harry Potter found the One Ring.

0101 - The Horcrux in Harry's scar was significantly stronger and affected his personality growing up.

0118 - The Ford Anglia was in perfect condition when the boys flew to Hogwarts. They didn't get caught, and Ron's wand never broke.

0119 - Lockhart really was the hero he claimed to be.

0120 - Hagrid was given the Dementor's Kiss when he was arrested during Harry's second year.

0121 - Lockhart escaped the school before Harry and Ron could force him to go to the chamber.

0122 - Lockhart was successful in removing Harry and Ron's memories in the Chamber of Secrets.

0123 - Ginny died in the Chamber before Harry could arrive there and Riddle escaped with his Basilisk.

0124 - Minister Fudge was less accommodating after Harry blew up his Aunt.

0125 - When Dumbledore learned of Trelawney's second prophecy, he decided that Harry's childhood is over and it's time to get serious about this Voldemort thing.

0126 - Lupin bit Ron during Harry's third year.

0127 - During third year, a strange rune-carved skull feel out of thin air and landed on Harry Potter's head. Only to begin making wisecracks and flirting with Hermione.

0128 - Cho Chang found the Diadem in Harry's third school year and was possessed by Voldemort.

0129 - Moody overpowered Barty Crouch Jr. and forced him to reveal Voldemort's plans.

0130 - Cedric touched the trophy before Harry and was transported to the graveyard alone.

0131 - Harry was blamed for Cedric's death.

0132 - Fudge accepted that Voldemort returned after Harry's fourth year.

0133 - Umbridge did not send Dementors after Harry.

0134 - The Ministry arrived at the Dursleys' house after the Dementor attack, and Harry was forced to flee.

0135 - Voldemort killed Lucius and Narcissa when he found out that his Diary was destroyed.

0136 - Harry managed to contact Sirius and did not travel to the Ministry.

0137 - Sirius didn't fall through the veil.

0138 - Lupin was too late and Harry ran after Sirius through the Veil.

0139 - Harry killed Bellatrix in the Ministry after she killed Sirius.

0140 - The Statute of Secrecy fell after Voldemort's second return.

0141 - Dumbledore did not put on the Gaunt Ring and was not cursed.

0142 - Harry and Cho got back together in his sixth year.

0143 - Harry consumed the love potion given to him by Romilda Vane.

0144 - Snape arrived too late and Harry's sectumsempra killed Draco.

0145 - The gene which allows a person to access magic were identified by a squib geneticist. He went public with the knowledge and broke the statue of secrecy by selling bone marrow transplants which turn muggles into wizards and witches.

0146 - After Dumbledore's death, Harry was joined by Grindelwald who has truly repented.

0147 - Moody didn't die during the battle of Seven Potters.

0148 - After Ron left the tent, Harry and Hermione ended up having sex and Hermione became pregnant.

0149 - Harry's Hogwarts years were completely normal and safe until Voldemort returned after Harry already finished his education.

0150 - Instead of getting immediately back to life from the ethereal Kings Cross, Harry appeared 19 years later in a Britain ruled entirely by Voldemort.

 

If you are dimention hopping you need to have a navigation system in order to go where you want to go rather than jumping blindly.

Here is my idea.

First you need to catogerize the words so you don't jump to a dead word and die instantly. For this we will use colors;

White: No magic everything is too structired for magic to exist so you can't actually jump here via magic you would need technology. Words come from Red to here when Magic dies. Some times reverse happens and magic sparks in to the existance and words move to red.

RED: Magic is weak here but still possible (more like Fate/stay night) Magics hey day is over and what is left is scraps. Of course it doesn't stop magicals they instead refine their abilities until they can do a lot with very little. The word where healing impossible and magicals are fragile would be here.

Yellow: Strict rules about magic. (D&D) Magic is strong but there is clear rules what it can and can't do. Gods still around for most part.

Blue: Canon would be Blue ie; Magic is (relatively) stong but hidden.

Green: Intermediate step between Yellow and Blue more clear rules about magic than Blue but more relaxed than Yellow Dresden hangs out here.

Purple: Nightmare words where Humanity lost the war against the Deamons/Dragons/Other creatures. The grimm darkness of the future in other words.

Black: Dead words. Words where humans can't survive but other creatures might. Think of it as the inside of the eye of terror from 40k and take it to eleven. Every now and than purple words is shallowed by Black but some times it spats back words as well. It is a very chaotic realm.

Colors represents the Changes in Universal level From big bang to here and only Changes that effects entire Existance can change the dimentions place in Multiversal existance. You can use shades of colors to show them which dimentions are in the proccess of moving.

In a smaller scale for local Jumps you use Multiversal Clock which signifies the other dimentions time frame compared to yours. So If you want to go to a word similar to yours you have to be first at the same color. Than you use clock.

Canon Harry would be 12 o'clock for Blue. Harry was alive for a few decades at most so he would get 1 hours worth of time. Meaning any jumps that made to dimentions that is from between 11:30 and 12:30 will end up in a world relatively modern and differences would be coming from these times. 11:30 would be Maraduers era's end (Sirius taking Harry insted of going after Peter) while 12:30 might be epiloge or a little bit later than that(Train blows up in epiloge).

Of course there is infinite number of universes. There are small infinities and big ones. Every color has infinite number of dimentions. Every hour has it's own infinite number of variations which makes navigation difficult. But not impossible.

There are infinite number of variations of course so this much isn't enough. You need one more thing before you can jump because even if you have managed to pin the difference between words to last second there is other possibilities. So you learn the depth, mesured by steps. Every step means one dimension and the 0th step would be word which is the most similar to canon with most smallest change possible wich doesn't change much of anything. Than you go higher or lower every step taking to more and more different words. Harry going to different houses can be found this way. They are all in the same second (11:50?) with canon being 0th step, Hufflepuff Harry would be 100.000th high step while Slytherin Harry would be 50.000th Lower step, 100.000th Low step is Rawenclaw etc.

While the idea of categorizing dimensions by colors with relation to its magic is interesting, the other idea about the clock is IMO tad tedious and rigid. It's confusing and doesn't add anything useful to the overall mechanic. And most importantly - the reader doesn't need to know how characters travel through dimensions.

I would propose something diferent in corelation with traveling through dimensions and the chance, that the traveler stumbles upon some unpleasent and dangerous place (i.e. no atmosphere, etc.). You must wear a special attire for hooping through dimensions - a mix of steampunk and magipunk astronauts suit, with its own atmosphere, oxygen tanks, fireproof/waterproof/any-other-nasty-stuff-proof. You know, an unholy mix of XIX century German soldier, with WWI gas mask, with circuits made of gold and crystals and sewed into the uniform.

Also is moon wizards originally your bunny? I know it was in PBT but if it's yours I wanted to doublecheck that I have permission to use and abuse the shit out of that, as a few people around here know, I've built a huge AU around that and two of the other ideas on your list.

 

Sliders was a 90s tv show about a college student who invented inter-dimensional travel and was accidentally transported to another timeline with his professor, his friend and an innocent bystander. The device was reset in the accident and they couldn't go back to their world, so they had to randomly travel between dimensions to try and reach back their timeline.


As for moon wizards, I can honestly say that when I thought of the idea, I did so independently. However, I later found out that in an older Plot-Bunny thread (which was made before I registered) someone else had a very similar idea with even the same name (though the details of the scenario were different). You can imagine my surprise there. Still, I believe I can claim that I invented Moon Wizards even if they weren't the first Moon Wizards.

You are, of course, free to use my version however you want.

Wouldn't that be Y-linked? Girls are XX, boys are XY; if you want magic to only show up in wizards, it would be Y-linked. On the other hand, if you wanted to be really twisted, make it so magic shows up only with XX chromosome- the only wizards would be XXY, XXXY... which would lead them to possibly have cognitive difficulties, reduced fertitlity, less muscle tissue due to reduced male hormone production...

Never mind; I think we may have found canon.

Nope, it'd be X-linked recessive. If it were Y-linked it'd be impossible for women to be magical, not just rare. X-linked recessive means women would need both their X genes to carry the recessive version; if they had the dominant in just one of them, it'd override the recessive. In order to get both recessive X genes, both parents would have to carry it, hence the rarity of non-pureblood magical women.

If men had the recessive gene, that's it, they're magical, since they wouldn't have another X to possibly override it. They'd only need one parent to carry the gene to get it, thus it wouldn't be as rare an occurrence.

 

Kinda exist. Warrior's Heir --> Harry Potter is a generation older than Tom Riddle and fights for muggleborn rights as a dark lord whereas Tom Riddle is trying to stop him from winning and destroying the pureblood society.

 

Fair proof why you don't rely on History and Literature majors about science; we assume that a reasonable guess is almost as good as knowledge.

 

Just a quick FYI: the next version of the list will be added when it reaches at least 200 worlds. This is to prevent having too many updates at once. The list is as of this moment at 160.
