Not sure how this would work or what the perks would be, but I like this one a lot.

These are interesting as well. WOuld the apprenticeships be 1 on 1? Introducing a "master" for each Hogwarts student would be a challenge, even if, like, say, Flitwick was able to mentor Charms apprentices for each 3+ year student in Hogwarts.

I feel like you'd have to move up the OWL/invent a new standardized test though. Maybe they take the end-of-year second year exams and use those to parse between say an exclusive charms apprentice ship for example (for the elite) and a regular charms class (canon).

 

Okay people. I will now take everything we have so far and merge it into a single list.

Some things to expect:

1.I will remove all things that are just repetitions of other worlds. No reason to have two worlds where Draco is the BWL.

2.In dimension hopping stories, creative and original worlds are infinitely more interesting than a world where Harry chose a different pair of socks. Which is why some of the more silly worlds will have to be unfortunately removed (their elements may be incorporated into other worlds, so don't worry, nothing is lost here).

3.I hate canon rehashing with a passion of a thousand burning suns, so I'm going to automatically assume that most if not all PODs create vastly AU worlds (it would be pointless and dumb if Slider!Harry appeared in a world where everything happened like in canon despite Dumbledore never being born).

Naturally, I will then post this list here for you all to tear apart to make it better.

Slytherin favors the capable, regardless of their background- he wants muggleborns to forget their families and join magical society. Later this is characterized as the 'House of leftovers and orphans'.

Ravenclaw lives by the axiom 'knowledge is valuable' and focuses on brokering information in exchange for money or favors

Hufflepuff draws in the social, attractive and copacetic.

 

A better question would be, why on earth would Ted and Fleur hook up with Harry? And before you ask: Daddy issues and a chance meeting at triwizard.

xxxx- Spells don't use all the magic poured into them; there is always a leftover that causes side effects in the world around them. It is often manifested as mutations in nearby lifeforms. Muggleborns are but one of them, also creating what muggles call superheros and supervillains, monsters, the zombilum virus, etc. Muggles have yet to discover the origin of these things. While wizards are somewhat resistant to this, deviations are more likely to happen the more time they expend around magic.

xxxx- Magic is tied to the land. The more magical land a family possesses, the more members of it can use magic. Some factors such as concentration of magical beings or their remains, a bloody history or a tradition of a family living in one place might create new magical land. Once created, it either chooses a master from the owners of the land or it can be appropriated using a ritual. Thus there is a business of buying new magical land before their new owners, mostly new muggleborns, are introduced to the magical world and then renting the land to wizard families so that their members can have magic. This creates a system in which those with no land have to become vassals of those who do to avoid being squibs, as they could be forcibly evicted, taking their magic away as it is the owner of the land who chooses who has it's magic. Under special circumstances, vaults can become magical land.

xxxx- After the use of wands was banned to the gobblins, they created a new method to cast magic by using gauntlets and 3 dimensional puzzles that cast spells according to the position they are in. With an even bloodier history with gobblins, wizards now reluctantly treat them as equals, their culture being a mixture between the two and some other magical creatures that allied with the gobblins. Tensions are, however, ever rising.

xxxx- One of the most popular games in the wizardly world allows the characters in the chocolate frog cards to battle. It takes not only a good collection but a brain for strategy though it is said that it also makes kids prone to violence. Meh, they said the same about quidditch.

xxxx- Wizards are self aware while dreaming. Magic involves bringing things or effects from dream-world to reality. There are special squads of wizards to deal with nightmares.

xxxx- Using magic to wrap time and space allows to connect all the wizardly world. A stroll along Diagon alley might bring you to it's equivalent in Germany or Argentina if you take a side street and there are residential areas that connect backyards from all over the planet. There are spells that allow somewhat imperfect translations.
