xxx - Petunia can't have kids, thus there is no Dudley.

Just me wondering what might happen if Harry was the only kid in that house...would they treat him even worse or would he be the son they couldn't have?

xxxx- In the summer of 1993, Percy Weasley was trapped inside an Egyptian tomb. He was possessed by an ancient Egyptian wizard, who wished to bring back his mates in the same way he was.

xxxx- Voldemort won the battle of Hogwarts by killing Harry.

xxxx- Merope Gaunt kept supplying the love potion to Tom Riddle Sr. They were both alive and together after the birth of their first son.

xxxx- Dumbledore never gave the invisible cloak to Harry.

xxxx- Cedric and Harry defeated Wormtail before he could bring back Voldemort. They brought him and his master back to Hogwarts with the cup.

xxxx- Crookshanks ate Scabbers when they met on the pet shop in Diagon Alley.

xxxx- Albus and Voldemort 'killed' each other when they dueled in the ministry.

(Don't recall if I saw this or not already)

xxxx - With the division between the muggle and wizard people in the 18th century, while muggles eventually developed and took to electricity for all of their technological needs and advancements in society, wizardkind adopted steam. Cue steampunk!wizarding society by the end of the 20th century.

xxxx - During the wars of the Dark Ages, a knowledgeable alchemist but magically-weak wizard brewed a concoction to destroy the trees most favored by his enemies for wand-making and slathered it onto the rats running rampart through their forests. It mixed with the Black Death and was spread world-wide within ten years, resulting in trees the world over losing their inherent magical properties and reducing wand-production to a dead-halt. Centuries later, wands are unheard of in lieu of alchemy, potion making, and ferromancy - the manipulation of magic through metal constructions.

I know 29 isn't much, considering the huge list. But these things take time to make into good and interesting worlds.

Here is Part 1, there shall be more parts incoming.

Alternate Potter Worlds, Final Version - PART 1/?

0001 – The Canon World shown in books.

0002 – The real world where Harry Potter is just fictional character and J.K. Rowling is a very rich author.

0003 – Magic has its source in souls and the reason muggles are not magical is because they don’t have souls. The discovery of this fact during the Dark Ages has caused almost all wizards to view muggles as animals. In this world, muggle hunting is legal but paradoxically muggleborns are not shunned as in canon.

0004 – The only way to have a magical child is if both parents are magical. Muggleborns do not exist, but curiously neither do Squibs. The Wizarding population is smaller and the Statute of Secrecy was created much earlier.

0005 – Magic appears only in females and there are no wizards. While the Statute was implemented (though much later), there are no Ministries of Magic and witches frequently play with the lives of muggles.

0006 – Being magical also includes the ability to see magical creatures, therefore muggles are unable to see dragons, house elves, goblins, centaurs or other magical beings and creatures. Due to this, the Statute is not as restrictive as in the canon world and wizards use hippogriffs, thestrals and dragons for flying more frequently. As a side effect, brooms aren’t as popular and Quidditch was never invented.

0007 – Some of the limits of magic present in the canon world are not an issue here. Magic can easily create food, make someone fall in true love and bring back people from death. Wizarding population is immensely high and powerful, as it really has no true problems like hunger or death. There was never any need for the Statute of Secrecy, as Wizards could simply make the muggles love them.

0008 – Wizard/Goblin relations are much better. Goblins have wands just like humans; the two races are friendly and work together. It is not unusual to see a human-goblin couple and goblin children attend magical schools like Hogwarts. Some secrets of goblin magic, like creating durable weapons have been shared with human wizards. Gringotts doesn’t exist as there are various banks instead of a single one.

0009 – Killing a magical person allows the killer to permanently take away a part of the victim’s magic. The rest of magic is randomly allocated to a newborn baby, being the source of muggleborn wizards and witches. These facts are known, muggleborns are seen as reminders of many deaths and some extremist groups blame them for this and claim that muggleborns are thieves which should be killed for having stolen magic.

0010 – There is a naturally set number of magical people, which has resulted in a great number of squibs. While most of these individuals are quietly given to muggle parents, some of them are unfortunately murdered as Wizarding couples try and try again to have a magical child. Having more than one magical child is highly illegal. Violence and murders are more common in the magical society, as one dead wizard means a new magical baby. Prisons like Azkaban do not exist, as the death penalty is used much more frequently, even for crimes like stealing.

0011 – Dragons have human-level intelligence and are classified as beings. They do not randomly set villages or towns on fire out of rage, but they are not friendly either. Obviously ‘dragon handlers’ do not exist in this world. Wizards, goblins, centaurs and other beings do not get along with dragons at all and there are frequent wars between this fire-breathing race and all other races. The only thing the dragons and other races were able to agree in was the Statue, as dragons claim that muggles ‘are just not fun’. The presence of such a dangerous dragon society has made all other races be much more integrated, though by no means great friends.

0012 – The creatures known as Dementors have never existed in this world and the act of taking someone’s soul is unthinkable. Soul magic is less advanced and Horcruxes were never invented, neither was the Patronus charm. Wizarding prisons use Trolls, harmful curses and other enchantments as protections. However, these are not perfect and prison riots and escapes are more common in this world.

0013 – In this world, intelligence, knowledge, wisdom and talents are highly prized, much more than the purity of blood. Ignorant, slow or ‘stupid’ people are shunned, discriminated against and sometimes hunted. There is a terrorist organization known as the Mind Purists which murders those suspected of not being smart enough. At Hogwarts, being sorted into Ravenclaw is a sign of being better than others and Ravenclaws are treated as the aristocracy.

0014 – Unbreakable Vows are not seen as bad things and are widely used by governments, employers, parents, business partners and random civilians. There are much more deaths, crime however is much less present. There was never a threat of Dark Lords, as children suspected of dangerous tendencies were forced in their youth to make specific vows. There are political movements to ban the use of vows; however they do not have much success as these vows are too integrated into magical society.

0015 – All wizards and witches are naturally gifted with Legilimency and Occlumency. Viewing someone’s mind is nothing unusual, as most people claim that if you don’t want your mind read, simply protect it. Memory sharing is a popular form of entertainment and as a result Pensieves were never invented. Veritaserum was invented, but almost never used, as everyone is immune to it thanks to Occlumency. Obliviating someone is seen as a crime comparable to murder and is punishable by a Dementor’s Kiss.

0016 – The Levitation Charm works differently and is leagues more powerful. Simply casting it can allow one to make entire buildings fly. Many magical structures and cities are high in the clouds; Hogwarts itself looks differently and floats in the air above the Forbidden Forest. Wizards can fly if they cast the charm on themselves, which makes brooms, carpets or flying magical creatures useless. While Quidditch was actually invented, it does not use brooms but instead players flying unaided.

0017 – The number of magical creatures is extremely high, causing them to hunt down regular animals to almost extinction. Hiding them from muggles would be impossible, which meant that the Statute could not have been realistically implemented. As a result, the magical creatures strongly affected muggle society, with wizards helping whenever they felt like it. In modern day, muggle society is less advanced technologically, wizards live as the upper class and many regular animals like boars or wolves are extinct, replaced by cerberuses, acromantulas, dragons, lethifolds and many other creatures

0018 – Magic is harmful to the caster, as each spell shortens one’s lifespan. A wizard can either choose to cast as little spells as possible or to live a very short life. When Nicolas Flamel created the Philosopher’s Stone, it allowed him to cheat around this limitation and he used his new possibilities to take over Europe. He went around and cast the Killing Curse at people and they were too afraid to retaliate, worrying that each spell might be their last. The Flamel Empire has existed for hundreds of years now and there is no sign of it ever ending.

0019 – Spells and most other magic affect the mind of the caster. Dark Magic acts like an addictive drug, which has strong side effect. Using the dark arts at least once may lead even the most noble of men into becoming terrible dark lords wishing to murder, rape, steal and destroy. Unfortunately, accidents always happen and many people fall to the addiction, making crime virtually omnipresent and extremely hard to control. The magical world is a society of many cold psychopaths, only barely controlled by the strongly increased use of Dementors and insanely harsh laws.

0020 – The existence of Magic caused the regular laws of physics to be strongly altered. While electromagnetism does exist, the creation of electricity-based machines is impossible. Muggles never invented the many devices they did in other worlds and their technological level is only slightly above the Wizarding one, relying heavily on steam-based machines. However, wizards of course have magic. Interestingly enough, some magical inventions present in the canon world are not present here, the Wizarding Wireless doesn’t exist, the ministry doesn’t have special cars and there are no flying motorcycles.

0021 – Baring accidents or murder, witches and wizards can live indefinitely. They mature into adulthood and then stop aging at all. There are wizards who have thousands of years and remember the beginnings of human society. Senility or ‘too many memories’ are not a problem, as one could simply obliviate himself or dump unnecessary memories into a pensieve. The philosopher’s stone was never created because there was no reason to do so. The Founders of Hogwarts are all alive in modern days and so are Merlin, Morgana and none of them really get along; some people just hold grudges for millennia.

0022 – Using magic hurts, or rather the stronger the spell is cast, the higher the pain felt by the caster. Calming Draughts and pain relief potions are very frequently used and are the first potions taught in magical schools. There are less murders and violent crimes, as the attacker also feels pain, making the instincts of wizards somewhat different.

0023 – Wizards and Witches are weaker physically than muggles. They get sick easily, break bones frequently and as a result are always very careful. To make matters worse, magical healing is not as advanced in this world as in canon. There is no Skele-Gro to re-grow bones and there are no pepperup potions. Apparition is rarely used as it almost always causes violent vomiting, making it an unpleasant experience. Offensive magic however is strongly advanced and wizards have a very distrustful attitude towards other magical races, given the physical advantage your average goblin has over a wizard, not to mention a single giant could kill a wizard with one hit. Dark magic is legal and all wizards are required to know basic attack and shield spells.

0024 – Magic is very difficult to learn as they require fully comprehending their individual nature to work. Schools like Hogwarts were never created as it would be just too time consuming for a single teacher to educate an entire class. Most adults can use only several spells. Merlin himself only could use around 20 spells which made him a legend among men.

0025 – Animagus transfiguration has to be reversed before a certain time limit passes, or else it will become permanent. However, such trapped wizards retain their intelligence and while they live sad lives, many of them adapt and have gained insight into the lives of various animal species. The field of Care of Magical Creatures is much more advanced, as human-animal communication is much better. Additionally, even if an Animagus manages to return to his human form, some traits carry over from the animal, like bird Animagi enjoying eating seeds etc.

0026 – Lycantrophy, or as it is more commonly known ‘the Werewolf Curse’ is a disease spread by biting (regardless if in human or wolf form), sex or even too much kissing. Lycantrophy is hereditary, meaning that if a werewolf man has sex with a healthy woman, then she will become a werewolf and all her children shall have the curse as well. Also, in this world werewolves do not transform only during the full moon, but every night. All these facts have led to werewolves being hated by wizards and other magical races. In this world Remus Lupin would not have attended Hogwarts (if his parents allowed such a monster to live). Werewolves are not considered fully human and do not have the same rights others have. They are not permitted wands, cannot hold jobs and do not have last names. Werewolves are frequently captured and murdered by wizards as a challenge or just for fun.

0027 – Wizards are able to create artificial bodies which can be then inhabited by ghosts to live on. Such ghosts are then able to use their magic as they did when they were alive. Ever since this was implemented, the majority of wizards and witches who die immediately return as ghosts and acquire artificial bodies. However, people with such bodies are unable to reproduce and these bodies age somewhat faster, requiring the ‘owners’ to get new bodies after some time. Even with the limitations, the Wizarding population is somewhat higher thanks to this. At places such as Hogwarts, the resident ghosts became the resident wizards.

0028 – The three Unforgivable Curses were somehow never discovered, which strongly affected the history of magical society. Through the years, significantly less people have been killed, which allowed them to live on and have descendants. Not only is the magical society bigger, but also much different. The lack of the Imperius Curse meant that it was quite harder to control others. A curious side effect happened and the modern Malfoy family is significantly less well off. Prisons like Azkaban are smaller and have fewer prisoners; as a result the Dementor population is also smaller.

0029 – There are much more vampires in this world than in canon, their numbers being almost equal to wizards. This is because vampires in this world are much stronger and not so easy to kill, for example while sunlight hurts them, light from a wand will not. Vampires also have their own type of magic (similar to goblin abilities, but different enough). Wizards knew this and instead of starting a long and bloody war with the creatures of the night, they chose to integrate them into their society. Today, vampires have much better rights than goblins, many work in the Ministry of Magic, one even works at Hogwarts. While blood purists may look down upon centaurs and house elves, they somehow manage to make an exception to vampires, which have proven to be profitable business partners. Much to the displeasure of people like Albus Dumbledore, vampires were given a permission to feed freely on muggles if they never feed on wizards and witches (a part of the treaty between the two races).

    A great work, thanks!

"0004 – The only way to have a magical child is if both parents are magical. Muggleborns do not exist"

What about children born as result of rape of muggle woman? Probably really rare for multiple reasons but it still would sometimes happen.

0010 - "Having more than one magical child is highly illegal." So they make sure that half of magicals is Muggleborn? Probably it should be two.

0014 - "There are much more deaths" - is it caused by activating vows?

0017 - period at the end is missing.

0021 - ‘too many memories’ - I see no reason why this would be a trouble. Human mind is happily working using brain that should be incapable of doing this (Animagus transformation), why this of all things would be a trouble?

0026 - I expected that it will end with "and as result almost all magicals except Muggleborn are werewolves".

0027 - "Wizarding population is somewhat higher" - I think that it would rather end with society almost entirely composed of ghosts, with half of magicals returning as ghosts only two generations are needed to end with population where only half is alive.

I . . . What? Dude, both parents have to be magical, that means whether consensual sex or rape, sex with reproductive results does not result in a magical child unless both parents are.

That said, I don't know how big families would have to be, but the marriage pool would be pretty damn small... then again this could lead to more intermarriage between nationalities.

xxxx - Students at Hogwarts are not sorted into Houses and are awarded individual points by the teachers. At the end of the year the student with the highest number of points in each year is put into the Goblet of Fire for participation in the Triwizard Tournament.

So the Triwizard happens every year and consists of the top students from each previous year? meaning if you don't kick ass in 6th (you really should, no standardized bullshit) then you have no chance?

Shouldn't the top one in each house be entered? instead of year bias. Is there a stronger academic side with your system?

Basically, whoever is the top student in each year gets put into the Goblet. It then chooses the best of those seven to go into the Triwizard Tournament. So really, if you're the top student in 6/7th year you really should be the one going into the Tournament, but it also means that if mini-Dumbledore or Tom Riddle were in there at year 1 you could conceivably go an entire 7 years with just one champion. Assuming they weren't killed in the tournament, that is.

    - Hogwarts doesn't have any offical houses as all students has their own room. But there is unoffical gangs that works secretly. Most famous of them are Big 4 named after founders but great wizards does sometimes gets their own gangs formed after their philossophies.

XXXa - Voldemort selects several skilled individuals and exposes them to his horcruxes, altering their personalities. I don't mean 'Tom Riddles' taking bodies of 'Ginny Weasleys' and maybe even becoming gender confused. Rather something like those selected people becoming more like Voldemort himself, wizards and witches absolutely devoted to him, as cunning and ruthless as him and forming the Inner Circle of Death Eaters. Maybe there are side-effects and so we get the Crazy-Bitch-But-Still-Brilliant-Witch!Bellatrix. With his Dream Team, Voldemort absolutely steamrolls everything and the BWL really has to work his ass off. Bonus: there's more playground and reason for Dumbledore doing awesome shit.

XXXb - Different take on the concept explained above: Ginny becomes Dark!Ginny, but still opposing Voldemort after CoS. Somewhere along the way, the piece of Voldemort's soul in Harry does the same to him. Sirius finds the locket in Grimmauld Place. Dream Team uses their numbers to even the odds against Voldemort's superior magical skill and power, which Harry alone, no matter how well prepared, can't hope to match as a teenager --> awesome stuff happens --> profit!

xxxx - In the late 1990s Muggle scientists make note of 'the Bloop'. Due to wide-spread postings across this 'intraweb' of theirs, a vast array of Muggle communication, it quickly becomes unfeasible to perform Obliviation upon the original identifiers. Falling back upon large-scale Confundus charms instead, most Muggles to hear of it come to regard 'the Bloop' as antarctic ice floes shifting in the rising summer temperatures, while the truly paranoid nuts continue to decry the imminent rise of a 'Cthulhu' without support and remain carefully monitored by a division of the Accidental Information Removal Department. In truth, the second great mid-Atlantic merman rebellion remains a loosely kept secret among wizardkind.

So how are the other worlds coming along, Xandrel?

The world where a Golden Man appears and saves a ship full of muggles, Wizardkind start to notice strange abilities appearing in Muggles which cannot be described as anything magical.

Really sorry for the double post, but I believe the one is important enough.

I decided that I overestimated my abilities and the amount of free time to finish this project alone.

As such, I created a Group here on DLP and posted there all what I have done so far and also all my resources.

Any person which wishes to help is appreciated, though I would prefer people who actually want to and can help.

I will of course continue to work on the project, but I really can't do it alone.

Here is a link for convenience: Alternate Potter Worlds group.

Count me in, Xandrel. I won't have immediate free-time again until probably Tuesday at the earliest due to real-life obligations, but after that I should be fairly open to start in the process.
