As long as their just using the money to fund the project and don't set up the Youtube account to where they receive any money from views they may be alright as studios have been known to allow and even promote fan films in the past.

 

I doubt such studios can rain fire, brimstone, and lawyers down upon violating parties the way JKR's publishers can. Just using the words 'Alohomora' and 'Auror' is probably going to net these guys a cease & desist letter.

Well he might not know where he's going, in which case he probably can't visualize his destination to Apparate. They also probably can't do broom flying scenes well with their limited resources. Or he could just like driving. I dunno, I think the guy driving with a wand in his hand gives it a cool urban feel, more like the Dresden Files.

 

Nothing against that, but isn't it the same thing as driving while holding a loaded gun with the safety off in your hand? Has this guy never seen Pulp Fiction?

Yeah, no shit. What I'm saying is that unlike fanfiction, money is changing hands, which is what will eventually instigate legal action. They can't use that copyrighted material and receive donations for it, even if no quote-en-quote profit is actually made in that all proceeds from donations are going into the production budget.

I dunno.

Maybe copyright law doesn't work the way I think it does.

 

These guys seem to have dedicated enough time and effort to this to have considered pretty much everything that could potentially shut them down.

 

Maybe he's a hard-boiled Auror who lives on the edge.

 

And keeps his wand in his back pocket when it's not in use.

That...was pretty bad. It seems like something done by a bunch of college kids in Intro to Acting or something. The visuals are great, there's not much content to judge the plot but the god-awful acting at the end there makes this unbearable.

 

It's like, three lines, all in all. Jesus, wait for some actual content before judging the acting, would you?

I'm not going to comment on the legality or the whole kickstarted thing. The one thing I enjoyed about the video was the way they seem to be taking the spells.

Guy gets hit by expelliarmus and guess what, he loses his wand. He doesn't get blown 50ft through the air and just so happen to loose his wand in the process.
