That's certainly going to be interesting. I'm curious on who's going to be playing the different character (HP, Dudley, Vernon and Petunia mostly) considering they've always been associated with the movies actor in my mind.

    What do you think guys?

    I'm already declaring it canon.

I don't know the woman, but what has she done to get this label? Promoting her books seems like a natural thing to do. Her involvement in the play is probably just to make sure that nothing too bad violates her HP universe.

As for opinions of the play ... I'm having trouble imagining a Harry-centric story that's not depressing. Harry's life only started to improve with his re-introduction to the wizarding world. I'll keep an open mind though.

She's released or approved the books, the movies, the secondary books, Pottermore, Harry Potter world, a movie based on one of the secondary books, both normal and lego HP video games, countless board games based on the book, countless board games based on the movies, a card game, and the numerous after book interviews where she releases more info.

Not saying she's not a brilliant woman or an amazing marketer but there's no denying what she is. I'd call myself the same thing if I was in her position, but then I'd also be filthy rich and wouldn't give a fuck what some snobbish young man (who's also an attentione whore admittedly) on a little forum in a dark corner of the wide wide internet has to say, so there is that.

Still don't consider her an attention whore.

An "attention whore" surely seeks attention for attention's sake itself and nothing else. JKR is producing creative material.

I wonder if the play will include accidental magic.

I hope so, it's a Harry Potter play after all. What is Harry Potter without magic? I'm just wondering how they'll make the magic on stage.

I've always shipped Matilda/Harry Potter, and this is the closest we'll get to it.

I'd think good actors can create magic on stage.

Oh, you mean that kind of magic. I don't know then.

I'm actually curious to see how they handle accidental magic.

Will there be any televised versions or it will be for the theater crowd only?

Excited when anything related to HP happens so thinking of doing a reread now of the books over break. Maybe it'll inspire a return to writing.

I'm thinking we may see a younger Harry developed in a way that brings him closer to the level of magic Tom and Lily were using at that age.

I don't know, I imagine that they'll want to keep it consistent with the books, which means Harry can't use magic consciously. Unless they pull a dick move like him being obliviated at the end.

Maybe not consciously, but perhaps more often and as an acknowledged response to seemingly extreme dangers. I'd be alright with him knowing that something strange happens every time it seems like speed and wit won't be enough to escape Dudley and his gang, or something of that sort.

In the books, he knows that these things seem "to happen around him." He'll know, for instance, that Aunt Petunia can't cut his hair.

Unless it's a tragedy or pointless, he should have a conflict to win, and I'm not sure surviving day-to-day with the Dursleys counts--maybe his conflict could be realizing against logic that he can "make things happen," or maybe that he's not going crazy and the weirdness is real, despite what the Dursleys say. Idek.

Side note: you know what would be cool? Interludes where we see wizardly conversations. Like maybe Lucius telling Draco about accidental magic, or Figg reporting to Dumbledore after Harry's been abused and lashed out with magic.

I hope Vernon is full of lulz like he is in the books.

"It is a plot to get the house!"

    "What house?"

    "This house!"

I can't see this being very exciting if it's set before Harry goes to Hogwarts. I'm just seeing a lot of moping, more than he even did in the books. Unless they actually do have this big adventure and someone memory charm's him in the end, but I think that would feel cheap.

I've already seen Tennessee Williams plays, why would I intentionally subject myself to watching a play based on Harry Potter's childhood?

The most horrible thing I could imagine is one actor on stage with some brooms, mops, and buckets for 90 minutes giving a monologue about living in a closet.
