Paul Rudd is now confirmed to be Hank Pym/Ant-Man.

The Scott Lang/Ant-Man role is still up for grabs.

Movie is coming out July 31, 2015. Edgar Wright called it the "the Heist movie of the MCU."

And unfortunately, Eric O'Grady/Ant-Man doesn't look look he'll make a appearance.

I have trouble describing in words how little I care about Hank Pym. Where's my Black Widow movie, fuckers? Where's my Wonder Woman movie?

The Wonder Woman movie is in hell. Right where WB wants it and it's being played by that anorexic girl.

Honestly, at the moment Scarlet Witch looks like she'll have the best chance at being at least a co-lead with her brother if she does well in A2. She'll be back to her old probability manipulation power instead of her ridiculous reality warping. It's a nice visual power. She has her whole Cthon plot and being born basically a child of a eldritch abomination. She has her love story with Vision. She hung out and trained with Agatha Harkness and Strange in the magic department and looks to be tied in with The Inhumans to replace her and Pietro's mutant origin. Plus she's the longest lasting Avenger (she unlike everyone else didn't leave the team for close to 40+ years straight until Bendis.)

And she's adorable.



Though if Guardians does well, Gunn said he wants to do Thunderbolts. So Songbird might beat everyone as a female lead. And like Wanda her powers are distinct and memorable.

 

Fuck Scarlet Witch. I hate her, and mutants in general.

Because as a SW fan, I can tell you Bendis (who has a history of doing this) threw out at least 20+ years of characterization because he openly said he didn't like her, didn't want to check previous writer's work and wanted to get rid of her as fast as possible so he could put characters he does like on the team. So he made her crazy out of flat out nowhere. Like this was severe character bashing that marvel has only just started trying to undo. What he did to her was basically the equivalent of making Captain America a nazi or making Ron a death eater.

Until Bendis, Wanda was one of the few mutants despite her relationship with Magneto who managed to keep her shit far away from X-titles for decades. Pietro was on X-factor here and there but he's more connected to Inhumans (his wife Crystal) than X-men. That's why they're allowed to be used.

Last I checked every mutant (Wanda, Pietro, Molly Hayes) that they can still use are being converted to Inhumans in the MCU.

Comicverse, I agree they got too righteous and smug and need to leave there too.

As for the movie, with Paul Rudd in the role I fear it may be too much of a comedy, and further push the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the edge into the Marvel Comedy Universe.

 

To clarify this, I wish the two were separate so that Xmen stuff could suck without dragging the rest of Marvel down with it.

Cassie Lang/Stature is also supposed to be in this movie. So avengers might be planning a Young Avengers/Avengers Academy spinoff.

 

I don't care about Hank Pym. I don't like Hank Pym. Nobody likes Hank Pym. He is a boring, insipid, asshole of a character, he doesn't need a fucking movie. He's not an interesting person, and I fucking hate ants, too. Why would you do this.

As I understand it, Pym isn't going to be Ant-Man, he's just Pym. Scott Lang will basically play out like in the comics - he'll get his hands on the suit to steal something in order to save his kid.

Pym is an asshole, and has been written that way for some time in an effort keep the character from being 'boring.' Becoming a wife-beater with identity issues isn't the path I would have chosen for him, but there it is.

I wonder if they might be going the 'adaptation redemption' route with him, using Rudd to turn him into a comedic character.
