How dare you. I took this very seriously. Did you not see what I wrote despite commenting on it in such a flattering fashion that I got an ego semi? That was very serious piece. Oscar-bait. I'm coming for you, 12 Years A Slave.

Have the OC reincarnated into the body of Vernon Dursley:

    - No chance of him/her being a magically powered deus ex machina.

    - Changes in the treatment of Harry = conflict with Petunia/Dudley/Marge.

    - Getting fired by Grunnings is quaranteed due to missing knowledge.

    - Wizarding view regarding muggles makes any act to save the WW extra hard, especially if the forknowledge isn't very detailed.

    - Possibility of intervention in muggle environment, for example Lockerbie.

Taure is just like Tauriel from the Desolation of Smaug. They're both Quenya (which is itself weird, as a Silvan elf has no busines having a Quenya name).

"Tau" like the Sau of Sauron.

"re" like a ray of sun.

Stress is on the first syllable (tau). When you say the name quick enough the sound begins to approximate ta-re.

Basically, you pronounce it like it's Spanish.

Or in portuguese, you prejudiced bastard. I always used Taurus as the guide to pronounce the Tau.

If it was Portuguese it'd be Taur-AO.

But just think, this could be a comedy of unimaginable proportions, with views unheard of for any story because so many readers and authors would identify with the main character.

Unless we are doing some sort of "write the next part of the story," this seems more like sharing what we might do? Maybe a support group for fans of the genre? :p

I've actually written around 5k words. But not gonna put it up or take it seriously until I get to around 10k, which is what I do with everything I write.

Rowen Selwyn, born 1926. Has rudimentary knowledge of the verse. Only actually fully accepted that is was the Harry Potter verse after meeting Albus Dumbledore. Denial is strong in this one.

In her previous "non-fictional" life, she was a assistant nurse. Lived a very boring, and poor, life.

Suffice to say that being reborn in an old pureblood magical family is a big change for her.

Alright. I guess I can post something I wrote a while ago.

World Entering Way: Reborn as a new person.
Name: Alexander L. Grabarz (Obviously not my real name. Grabarz means Undertaker in Polish).
Birth: August 14th 1890 (My birthdate minus 100 years).
    Nationality: Wizarding Poland.
    Blood: Pureblood.
School: Alexander convinced his parents to let him go to Hogwarts instead of Durmstrang (no other reason to write the story).
Family: The Grabarz Family is wealthy and dark. Their main sources of income include supplying blood to Vampires and Thestral Breeding.

Bio: While initially having grand plans upon his arrival in the Potterverse, Alexander has changed during the eleven years he was raised in the Grabarz family. He no longer wants to live among the British wizards or make friends with any characters from the book. Stopping or helping Grindelwald/Voldemort became a secondary objective. This is because Alexander has grown attached to his new family and would like to raise it to the top of Eastern Europe. Perhaps even help them create a new school of magic, one more important than Durmstrang and one which would only accept Pureblood Slavs.

Given the Pre-Book Time Period, these are actually more difficult than they sound:

Main Goal #1 - Acquire the Deathly Hallows. Family experts will examine them and attempt to replicate their powers. Even if they fail, these artifacts shall be used.
Main Goal #2 - Acquire the Philosopher's Stone. Obvious advantages to the Family, unlimited wealth and eternal youth.
Main Goal #3 - Gain powerful pureblooded allies in Wizarding Britain and other nations.

Secondary Goal #1 - Steal rare books from the Hogwarts Library.
Secondary Goal #2 - Search through the Room of Requirement to find potentially rare and useful items.
Secondary Goal #3 - Attempt to acquire the items Voldemort used for Horcruxes: Ravenclaw's Diadem, Hufflepuff's Cup and Slytherin's Locket.

Basically a Dark Wizard who has already planned to kill you in your sleep while giving you Christmas present. Not a nice guy by any definition.

I didn't bother reading the thread, because Keith has posted and my life is a little too precious, but did anyone mention that if you legitimately woke up in the world of Harry Potter, regardless of whether you were aware that it was fiction or not, the logical thing to do is seek a mental health professional?

    Just saying.

Then perhaps I'm insane already. Because I'm just that kind of person that not only would accept being transported to a fictional world, oh no, that would be too simple. No, I already expect impossible things to happen on a daily basis and I'm very disappointed that it isn't so.

I don't see what a mental health professional could do here. "Oh, so you come from an old magical family? You recognize them from a fictional series from your previous life?" Assuming the SI really is just insane, could he help them?
    ---
I used to have an SI idea, the SI is reincarnated into Draco Malfoy. Both the SI and Malfoy are scared and good at rationalizing bad decisions, so they don't reveal their knowledge or do anything major 'just in case this is some crazy AU, I accidently tell the wrong person everything, he obliviates/imperius/kills me and the world is doomed*', but also doesn't do anything to find a person to trust, instead waiting 'until it's not as risky'.

Draco would try to keep up his arrogant pureblood persona to keep appease his parents and friends and keep his social status, but he'd also try to not actually hurt the light sides camp, maybe teach them a bit and have a lot of fun spouting doublemeanings and nonsense. A bunch of continuity jokes he can make since he has future knowledge. For example:

"My name is Malfoy. Draco Malfoy. [...] You will soon lear that, among wizards, there are good and bad sides. I will show you the wrong side."

"It seems my wit exeeds even my ambition!" (In a letter to his father, upon getting sorted into Rawenclaw.

Basically really obviously arrogant, but gets away with it since he has social status and 20 years on his peers. Magical or not, I doubt a thirty year old would have much trouble with an eleven year olds curriculum.

He'd call Muggleborns and accociates dismissively "Muggles" ("that's such a Muggle way of thinking"), which if kind of hard to report or argue against, since if he gets punished for calling somebody a Muggle, that would imply that Muggle is actually a swearword.

He'd drive Hermione crazy, since every time she'd bring up a Muggle accomplishement, he'd say that was 1) a wizard in disguise, 2) a squib or 3) a wizards joke and lol, they seriously believe that? Beethoven becomes a squib, Shakespeare is obviously a wizard in disguise, Odyseus an honorary Slytherin, Aristoteles one of the oldest wizards in history, Newton a wizards idea of a joke - and Muggles seriously believed in something crazy like conversation of energy, hahaha.**

Not that people actually believe him, but it's not like many wizards know Beethoven of Newton and Muggleborns can't know if the're wizards, are kind of indimidated by the new world the're in or get laughed of.

Draco would emphazise that purebloods, him, and Muggles - eh, who cares about Muggles, ie emphazice pride in something else but you hatred of all things Muggle. He'd become a Chaser, not a Seeker so he woudn't have to go up against Harry directly and lose, but proclaim it's because he wants to really play, not just get some floating ball once and he wants to leave the other team a chance. Then he'd try to have the Slytherin-Gryffindor match coincide with Harry being out of the action.

Sometime in book three he semi accidently founds a Dumbledores history research club, the idea came from a joke "Come on guys, Dumbledore is obviously evil, it's the masterplan, nobody would suspect him, insert harebrained, but somewhat logical arguments, you know some of them from fanon" - "Really?" (shocked) . "Who knows ...?".

Some students from the light side join, just to keep an eye on things, the club mostly attracts the scepticals - Dumbledore's obviously not evil, but what if he is? Draco goes with the argument that research can't hurt, if there's nothing to hide, then they should be free to research everything Dumbledore ever did, right? And even if they don't find anything, it'll make a fine history project.

Draco would function as an organizator in the club, giving him the opportunity to make hypocrytic speeches, meant to keep up the facade of a research club, his own facade and if possible, let people see through Voldemorts facade when he comes back.

"If you really want to know what someone wants, don't look at what he says, look at what his actions cause. Dumbledore became Headmaster in 1970 and remains Headmaster to this day." *Pulls up a statistic* "He repeatedly said he wanted to keep Hogwarts stable and allow Muggleborns to better enter the wizarding world, yet the statistic shows that, between 1960 and 1980, Hogwarts had to hire more new teachers then in then between 1600 and 1700! The Muggleborn acceptance rate was also steadily dropping."
    Audience: "Owaaaaaah"
Voice from the background: "But, that's because of Voldemort."
Draco: "Now, onto another point ..."

After Voldemorts return, Dracos relations to Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs would freeze over and he'd inwardly curse himself for not acting.
His research club would have a small effect in strengthening ministry propoganda against Dumbledore and his club would get the opportunity to write a paper on wizarding history from 1920 to today and Dumbledores influence in it, further freezing relations betweem him and DA members as well as allowing fun interactions in his club.

After year five, he's fucked. His fathers in Askaban, his mothers a wreck. He really should have done something sooner, but he didn't know what.
I originally had him go to Dumbledore for help in exchange for the Diadem Horcrux and the Vanishing Cabinet, but he doesn't have the balls for that.
So he somehow joins the good guys and they win.
He never gets legilimenced by Voldemort, Bellatrix or anyone really.
(Actually, having Snape legilimence him and force him before Dumbledore would be an option.)

And for all the shipping fans, Hermione and Draco get together in the epilogue.

*Selfinsert into random Deatheater/Voldemort victim. Legilimence. Bad End.

**The Statute of Secrecy is from 16xx, so there's a good chance antike history isn't actually much different and older myths (Gilgamesh) are pretty much the same

I stopped brainstorming that after running out of steam and having no suitable plot for "He has no guts - how the hell can he get out of the mess after fifth year of avoid it?" or much plot besides that, really.

    That sounds exhausting and inconvenient.

I love the logic behind this. "I've literally gone stark raving mental. Either I have invented an entire false history or I am currently living an enormous delusion... Fuck it, lets just see where it takes me."

Either you're imagining things really realistically or you really are in a different world. If it's the latter, you should obviously go along with it. Believing you're in a dreamworld when you're in reality is a shitty path. If it's the former, you're probably in a coma or a dream. How do you wake up from that? You don't have a way out from inside the dreamworld. I for one woudn't try killing myself to see if I wake up, just on the offchance I'm not dreaming. Pinching doesn't work.

In a "I ran across the Leaky Cauldron" scenario, you'd check to see if it's still there later, if not, you imagined it. If it is, ask around if other people also see it. If they do, it's their.

I don't see how going to a psychiatrist could help you decide if you're delusional or the reality you live in isn't the one you thought it was. He's going to believe you're crazy, he can't actually help you decide if you imagined magic or really saw it, because he's going to believe the former in every case.

Not to mention that in the normal SI scenarios where the SI reincarnates into the world or wakes up in it or goes through a portal, he can't access a real world psychiatrist, because he is no longer in the real world. If he went there just in his dreams and spent his waking life in the real world, sure, possibly.

Because that is the only logical conclusion.

Assuming the 'SI' comes from a world where magic is impossible (like ours), the only sane and logical reaction is to presume that they're either in an extremely elaborate ruse, they have some sort of mental condition or, as you said, are in a coma.

In any of these situations your interaction with 'reality' would not be as though it were reality.

All of that said, the scenario you suggested (by accident, I think) is FAR more interesting and plausible than the SI concept. If the SI was dreaming about the magical world, inhabiting another character's body when they did so, but the rest of the time the character was behaving under their own volition— that would have the potential for an amazing story.

There's also the possibility that you are wrong and the situation you believe to be impossible is actually possible.
    ---
I think there are a few original works with that setting, but the only one I can think of right now is "Only You Can Save Humanity" (or something) by Terry Pratchet. I think it works better with a younger protagonist, since he isn't as distanced or min/maxed in his dreams.
