And that AxOC? I'm very absolute, and very sexist when it comes to my OTPs.

Like I said, the relationships can be viewed as metaphors for Hiccups grander problems. Sometimes if he ignores an issue, people are going to take their own measures to solve that issue and Hiccup won't always like those measures.

The OC doesn't stick around anyways.

Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni is, at heart, an old man who likes his tea prepared a certain way and has a soft spot for talented youngsters. His latest fledgling seems to be one Kurosaki Ichigo, substitute soul reaper. (Alternatively, a story in which Yamamoto is a crafty old man, Ichigo grows up to be utterly terrifying, and Aizen doesn't stand a chance.)

Oh? A nice find, knight. Interesting summary. I was disappointed to see the crack addition, I think the piece would have been much better without it. Pretty solid and enjoyable. The only thing I disagree with is Yamamoto's easy acceptance of the hollow mask and "any power is necessary to defeat Aizen, regardless of its source" - Yamamoto would never accept something like that.

    4/5.

I thought it was the super generic training story in 5% of the normal length. MEH.

4/5 enjoyment scale. There's nothing new or amazing, the ending is shoddy, but it had its moments, and I enjoyed it. Bleach fanfiction being what it is probably influenced my score. I know it probably isn't good enough for the library.

I simply like the idea behind it. This was more of an outline but it seems like something worth exploring.

In this situation at least, I'd think he'd withhold judgement for a while. I can't remember him ever having an opinion on the subject - just Komamura's "fallen" comment to Tousen and the Court 46 for the Shinigami-turned-Hollows. And considering the maniacs he let work for Gotei 13 (and how it even began). Though it was made too easy here.

I don't see anything wrong with it. He let the Vizards rejoin in canon. It was the Central 46 that had the problem with it, and they're dead.

It's pretty clear that Aizen's betrayal woke everyone up to the idea that maybe you shouldn't blindly follow the rules just because they're the rules.

    Swinging-Pendulum, CHAPTER THE FIFTH!

The update is 26k words alone by the insane writer cywscross. Minor two lines review of the chapter. I do like the ending of the chapter, but it seems everyone under the sun is suspicious of Aizen. It removes a bit of fun from the character when that happens.

Yea, that's my one major issue with that story. The whole point of Aizen was that his betrayal was a) unexpected and b) masterfully executed. If this story was to be believed, everyone and their dog knew he was up to something and was just waiting for him to turn on them. It doesn't jive. I could buy Shunsui's hackles being raised by Ichigo's reaction to Aizen, but that's about the extent of what should have happened out of the many instances of people doubting/suspecting/whatevering the man.

I also find the whole "Central 46 is planning a hostile takeover of the Gotei 13 for no apparent reason, despite already having near-full control over them in the first place" to be a tired and frankly idiotic plot point, but I'm willing to let it slide as long as the characters continue to be so damn engaging.

The ridiculous thing is it wasn't "near total control". It was flat out total control. The Central 46 wasn't a separate partner power to the Gotei 13, it was the legislative and ruling body of the Gotei 13. That's exactly why Aizen's plan worked as well as it did, because people barely questioned orders no matter how unheard of and ridiculous.

Before Aizen's betrayal, if the Central 46 told the Captain Commander to jump he asked how high. The only thing that worked against that during the plot was literal insubordination against said Captain Commander and an invasion by outlaws, and the only way to get around that as a ruling body is to not rule an organization in the first place.

The only Bleach fanfiction I know about are basically this, so I must be forgiven for being amused at the Central 46 betrayal. I've never seen it, but hurr durr.

Well I've never actually seen it before either. It was a nice little twist for me, but it still makes incredibly little sense.

Really? The Central 46 being moustache-twirling, scheming evil fucks desperate to make a grab for power they already have is a central plot point in like 2/3 of the Bleach fics I've read, and I haven't even read that many. It seems to be one of the major (and retarded) staples of the fandom, much like the Hokage's Council or Indy!Harry's Fantastic Adventure With the Goblins(tm).

It would be easier to ignore due to lack of exposure, but it is indicative of such sheer depth of stupidity and blatant ignoring of explicit canon details that it circles right around to being worse.

The only Central 46 plots I ever see are when they turn against Ichigo (and sometimes the Visored) and send Shinigami to hunt him down or restrict/remove his power.

They tend to go hand in hand, to be honest. The Central 46 turns on Ichigo, and one of their first acts is to pre-emptively arrest Yamamoto and pretty much the entire rest of the Captains (and lieutenants) save Soi-fon and maybe Komamura, call them all traitors, and put random nobodies slavishly loyal to the C46 in their place.

The details vary depending on the author, ranging from Yamamoto being a loyally obstinate idiot who goes along with it because reasons, to specifics of who gets targeted by the purge, but the core of the idea is always the same. The Central 46 are scheming morons whose every act can only be described as "Bad Bond Villain" and is then executed with the minimum amount of grace, subtlety, or tact.

Thinking about it further, I guess my issue is less the specifics of the Central 46 trying a hostile takeover (though that is pretty bad), and more that the governing judicial body of the Shinigami are consistently portrayed as simultaneously hyper-competent megalomaniacs and suicidally incompetent schemers so bent on twirling their moustaches that they forget reality entirely. It's just appallingly bad storytelling.

Hey. It's me with a couple HTTYD fics again.

    First, this one.
The summary is deceptively terrible. It's an okay-ish drama fic with actual characterization, sitting around 35k words. A decent time waster, if nothing else.

The real (kinda, sorta) gem is its sequel.
This one is actually 140k words, and doesn't focus on drama. It's actually an engaging story with engaging characters and decent worldbuilding/research.

I suggest that you read through the first one so you'll be able to read the second one. It's worth it.

How does that even work? It was stated and shown that the Captainsare the vast majority of the military might of the Gotei 13 and probably all of Soul Society. The kido corps and ninja force(which got absorbed into the 2nd squad) are the only other organizations that could somewhat be comparable but they'd be vastly outnumbered. It would be like the Daimyo deciding to take over a ninja village in Naruto.

Swinging Pendulum has waaaaay too much internal monologue/reflection. I think there is maybe 5k out of that 26k that was actual dialogue/things happening. It's a pretty perfect fit for Almost Recced.

Holy shit, it has upwards of one thousand reviews. Bleach fandom was never that active when I was in it.
