The ending ruined it for me, but for completely different reasons. I want the protagonist to win. Not fucking achieve their goal but lose their life, just win.

 

Well, for me to truly like a story, the protagonist must have a happy end. So... I agree. I'm just so damn tired of seeing all the evil!protagonists getting bad ends in fanfiction.

Seriously? IMO Santi has the best unfinished story out there.

 

What I think Iron Rose meant was that aside from The Santi's work, there aren't many if any good non-bwl stories, and thus there isn't a high bar for the story to be second best.

 

Sure, but he said it was second to it. Anything but Santi's story could easily be qualified as shit. So, it's the best of the BWL stories, except for the only one that isn't shit. What a glowing recommendation, boo yeah!

I disagree.
Lazy plot devices are just one of the many symptoms of shit-authoritis, of which that story is fatally afflicted.

 

And also if we have a fixed POV. No one's pov is repeated and thus there was a lot of repetition of scenes. It was frustrating.

 

So I read this today. It is a cliched but kind of readable Metamorph!Harry/Tonks, and the first chapter is not too terrible (Warning: The second chapter can and will cause your eyes to spontaneously combust).
But it got me interested in reading a good Metamorph!Harry fic. Is there one out there? Do you guys remember any fcs that fit this bill?

 

jbern started one in WBA a couple of years ago before dropping it to work on his HP/nBSG crossover instead.

 

Most people just have metamorph!Harry just for the sake of him having a cool ability, but it always turns out shit. As far as I'm aware (and I'm aware of all the big stories that use that cliche) it hasn't been done well in any story, and probably never will be. I'd probably rather just read an awesome assassin!Tonks story where she is the Order's wetworks person, rather than a metamorph!Harry

 

I just want to read a good HP/Tonks story.

 

Unfortunately, while Harry is still in school Harry/Tonks becomes Pedophile!Tonks - at least for me. There's something creepy about anyone in their 20s going out with a 14-16 yr old, no matter how you slice the gender roles. For me, it would have to be post-War to be any good - further away the better.

 

Hmm.. I have never seen 15 yrs Harry as a child. He has emotionally matured a lot. You'd have to if you have a darklord out for your blood.

 

That's fanon bullshit. Maybe he's more mature in certain aspects, but that doesn't mean he isn't a 15 year old kid. When was the last time you read the books?

 

...I'd probably read a Predator!Tonks, because of its unusuality.

Edit: Also, because I'm a sucker for AU I'm Still Here. It starts out okay, but then around chapter 4 or 5 it really starts to spiral into substandard areas. Multi-animagus, special form of apparition and other shit. Plus, for some reason Harry finds himself in the care of the Flamels out of nowhere and of course has to reveal everything to them.
