I kind of disagree with you here because it isn't usually Sam and Dean getting a second chance but rather just been absolutely stubborn in their denial of death and they always basically cheat death, find loopholes.

I did like that Sam finally accepted that it really needed to happen and be final, since its their fucking around with death that has caused alot of the major problems. At least their is hope that the series might end with both of them dead.

I am thinking that hell may yet be sealed, but in their own time after much death and destruction.
THe WoG have all sorts of info on them, so I wonder if they have cures for monsters. It had the instructions to make a weapon to kill a leviathon, but not the instructions on how to get into hell, or cure a demon. SO i wonder why it was not more helpful.
THe angels will want power, so they will want either the angel or any other tablet to get this power.

A lot of beings still cut them a lot of slack though, like Death, for example, making it possible for them to find and exploit said rules. Besides, whenever they see someone who is not them do something similar, they immediately go on the "that's not right, man" path and either talk them down or kill them, because, making deals with monsters is wrong and all that.

Hell, when Bobby was there as a ghost, Dean immediately berated him for not accepting his death. The second one of them is in any sorts of danger, all of this "accepting death" bullshit gets thrown out of the window and they start doing whatever is necessary to keep the other one out of death.

Maybe it's more the blatant hypocrisy in their actions that makes me dislike this sort of stuff.

Supernatural always seems to nail the season opener, for the most part.

Enjoyed this one immensely, mainly because for the first time in a long time the show acknowledged just how badass and powers-in-their-own-right the Winchester brothers have become. That scene where Dean sends out an open prayer, for one, and then of course where Death gives Sam the nod of respect.

One of the failings of this show in recent seasons has been how the majority of bad guys, the monster/demon/angel/whatever, still seems to underestimate Sam and Dean, even after the whole Lucifer arc. Refreshing to see, in this season opener, that some of the respect they've earned is acknowledged.

So, second episode, and it was nice to see demons adapt to more modern tactics but there is a reason they weren't using it earlier, seeing that Dean and Sam would be dead long ago. Abbaddon isn't really threatening as far as personality goes, but maybe that is just the actress. I mean, kudos for employing some strategy and all, but she isn't on the same level as Crowley as far as an actual threat goes because we are back to demons who underestimate Sam and Dean. Could have snapped Dean's neck there instead of tossing him around but then again, smart monsters would mean a short show. Also kinda weak that Abbaddon bolted at the first sign of angel, seeing that wingless and fallen angels shouldn't be that hard to fight for something that seems to be an upper class demon, who stacked up nicely against angels.

Dean and Sam bullying law enforcement and other people to bulldoze through them also gets less amusing and more despicable, especially seeing that it really is their fault for not dealing with the demons permanently.

That no one looked back the dead hunter was offputting and weird.

Dean's heinous and hypocritical guilttrip of Kevin was hard to stomach.

That said, I did enjoy Ezekiel and Crowley. Okay episode.

Yeaaah, the part where he said they were family and that Dean would do anything for Kevin was a little hard to swallow since Adam is still in the cage and no one seems to give a fuck.

I hope they bump into Mr. Dresden :D

I still want the spin-off following Samuel Colt Kripke mentioned years ago.

No obvious way that this show will be able to rescue Adam. Damn shame, what happened to him.

Ditto. We got an entire season of Dean angsting about his brief sojourn in Hell, yet Adam's ordeal gets glossed over. It irritates me a lot.

Also, this show is great, but it needs better female characters. Ever since they killed off Meg, I haven't liked any of the remaining girls on the show.

The spin-off could be good. A fresh start in this universe with a new set of characters just may be a good thing.

Hopefully the show isn't overrun by angels and demons.

The proposed formula of the spinoff doesn't really appeal to me, but if it maintains a suitable amount of meta-shenanigans and humor, I'll probably still watch it.

Speaking of meta-shenanigans and humor, is it just me or has Supernatural been decidedly unfunny lately?

Yeah the show has had some up and downs.

However it works out, I'm hoping they recover Adam.

What I really want to see is a reconciliation between Sam and Dean, and then they just go to town. Take names, slay the Big Bads, all with Cas helping along.

One thing that's always shit me about this show is how the enemy of the week AND the overarching villain always, always underestimates the Winchesters. It's just lazy.

Crowley, for his part, has never really done so. He even had that whole scene with Cas where he's screaming about never 'underestimating those denim-clad nightmares'. Brilliant.

But far too many monsters/demons/gods that know better pretend Sam and Dean are just an annoyance, flys to be swatted. No. They've earned better, for Lucifer alone. Never mind the rest.

Eh, I've brought this up before. They deserve to be recognised in their own right. That season opener with Death, where he gave Sam the nod of respect, is as close as that's come.

While this last season was better than the last two, Supernatural still has lost this certain essence that once allowed it to be good. It's main cast is still mainly unlikeable, especially Dean has lost nearly all redeeming features and more than not, I am mainly rooting for Crowley at this point.

Sam is okay, I guess, but he lacks something and Castiel, well, while I like him, there should be a limit how often he fucks over the Angels and still tries to help them. There should be a point where he realizes "you know what, this is the fourth time I caused the death of thousands of angels, maybe I should stay the fuck away from them".

Similarly, Supernatural overuses certain tropes, like the underestimation that Joe mentioned, but also stuff like Dean and Sam being able to go toe to toe with various supernatural enemies for no other reason than main character powers. That had always been the case, but by now, the SOD has been broken. I loathe the fact that they can just shank gods with pieces of wood and call it a day, or that at no point does a monster try to really kill them, always tying them up to monologue first if they do get the drop on a Winchester.

Similarly, the portrayal of female characters is mostly abysmal on the show. Felicia Day's character is about the only one that was not killed off and treated with at least some depth, it's a pity that hers is a once or twice a season character.

So, am not looking really forward to the spinoff, once again two male leads, they could have at least had one female this time, spending time in the same "meh" universe that supernatural has created. About the only thing I am looking forward to is maybe the depth they are going to give the monsters this time around, since a few of the secondary characters seem to be monsters, and not just villains that will be killed, supernatural had maybe 2 or 3 not evil monsters, one of them being Castiel. Then again, with this romance between monsters of different families, and how Supernatural has treated romance and female characters so far, am not really looking forward to it.

Wish they would have made a spinoff about that girl that was sort of Dean's apprentice for two episodes, with her two friends as they strike out on their own, and with their far smarter approach to hunting with technology and inventiveness and what not.

Dean has been increasingly unlikable since season 4. I'm surprised he hasn't suffocated under the weight of his own self-righteous hypocrisy yet.

I still like Sam despite the writers obviously preferring Dean, who has been the POV character more often then not since season 4. Even when Sam has a story-line the writers are more concerned in showing how it effects Dean.

Ben Edlund, who wrote most of the comedy episodes, left the show before this season to join Kripke on Revolution. On Supernatural he wrote:

    - The Great Escapist (2013)
    - Everybody Hates Hitler (2013)
    - Reading is Fundamental (2012)
    - Repo Man (2012)
    - How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters (2011)

    - The French Mistake (2011)
    - Clap Your Hands If You Believe (2010)
    - The Third Man (2010)
    - The Devil You Know (2010)
    - My Bloody Valentine (2010)
    - Abandon All Hope (2009)
    - The End (2009)
    - On the Head of a Pin (2009)
    - Wishful Thinking (2008
    - Monster Movie (2008

    There are rumors of a
forbidden romance between a werewolf and a shape shifter, so I wonder what happens if different monster breed together. We know that the monsters are linked, so this might be something new.
