Bit more traditional then other systems but has anyone actually played through the Slumbering Tsar Saga for Pathfinder? Saw it in store a couple days ago and was very interested.

I'll be taking a nap afterwards for my own session, but I guess I can do that.

If any of you are keen on Evil Hat's Fate system, then there's a massive deal on for the next 18 hours.

    http://bundleofholding.com/index/current

tl;dr: A bunch of Fate rule books for $6, and a bunch more if you beat the average donation which is currently $15.07. 10% of your money goes to listed charities.

Dresden Files RPG isn't included. Not surprising given it's a big licensed property.

I've never played a PnP RPG, so I may have got some details wrong. Check it out for yourselves.

Possibly looking for one or two players to join us on a series of humorous, simple and fun one-shots— Everyone is John, We're All Going to Die, Fiasco and the like.

We play on Sunday afternoons/evenings (GMT) via Skype. If you've ever wanted to try a Pen'n'Paper, but were slightly over-faced with all the rules and nonsense, this is a good place to start :)

Thank you so much for making me discover those two RPG (John and Going to Die). I was looking for something simple to play once in a while. This fits perfectly.

I'm definitely interested in playing, and since I've moved out I'm not available at any time.

I'm fairly interested, though the latest I can really play is ~ 4-5 PM GMT on Sundays. Monday morning classes suck, but all my requisite classes start ridiculously early.

Sorry to hear that. Realistically with the group we already have the earliest we could look at starting is 4pm GMT. Though if your schedule changes, feel free to hit me up via PM, we're always down for introducing new people to the group :)

So I'm thinking of starting up a play by post game set in the Wormverse. The ideal would be to have 4/5 players. We'd be usingg the fate system since I know that one best and some helpful folks on the Jim Butcher forums have translated a bunch of characters into RPG characters.

    So, anyone interested?

Okay, cool. Three players so far. Now for the essentials:

The game will use the Dresden Files RPG as a base, which means everyone needs the rulebook if they're going to play. Shoot me a PM if you're interested and I'll show you where you can pick it up.

I'm thinking the campaign will start off with the players as a group that's fairly new to the scene. Think the Undersiders or the Brockton Bay Wards at the start of Worm. This will leave plenty of room for expansion of powers if you can't decide what to take at first, or just change your mind part way through the game as to how you want your character to progress. Plus the power levels in Worm get plain ridiculous the higher up you go.

To that end it'll be played as a Submerged campaign, with 8 refresh to spend on powers and 30 skill points. 2 extra refresh will be available to be spent on stunts relating to the character's life pre-Trigger Event. Your character's Trigger Event must be referenced in your aspects (like how Insect-Controlling Supervillain and Issues With Authority could represent Taylor's Trigger Event are the subsequent fallout from it).

We'll be going through the complete city creation process as well, since it takes some of the work of my shoulders and saves you guys from having to be told the basics of every encounter. I think London is a decent pick for a city and the timeline to be somewhere pre-canon, so that we have as much room for going AU as we like.

Also of note is that a few powers don't work in the Wormverse that do in the Dresdenverse. Powers like Cassandra's Tears aren't really workable, as are Soulgazes. I'll go over that more if we get some more support for this though. For now, however, check out the DFRPG Resource Wiki. Of particular note is the Adjustable Powers page, since it replaces Incite Emotion with the much more versatile/balanced Incite Effect and the Limitation power.

I encourage players to take the Limitation power with the goal of creating interesting powers, rather than to power game. Bitch's power is more interesting because it's centred around dogs, not just a catch-all strength/toughness buff, for instance.

Also, Projection, for all your Siberian needs. Check out the rest of that thread too; Sanctaphrax is a balance guru and is singlehandedly responsible for most of the powers on that wiki.

Otherwise there's just the matter of the dice roller we'll be using.

    http://invisiblecastle.com/
    http://rolz.org/group

Invisible Castle is my preferred one since it's very user friendly and stores your roll results as part of a campaign page. Rolz.org is for when IC is down, which happens occasionally.

And last but not least, check out the Jim Butcher PbP Forum to get an idea of how these games are played.

Kinda tempted to join, and I did have more than a few questions about how you would be handling the characters, is there any chance that somebody has written a summary of the Worm stuff? ;3

Ask away and let me know if you're game.

Also, summary? Of Worm? All of it? Hahahaha.

EDIT: If we get one more confirmed player (on top of Kalas, Ashan and Corellon) I'll move us on to the City Creation stage, which will answer questions a lot easier than a Q&A list.

There's a wiki, but it's extremely poorly maintained. I can give it a shot.

In 1982, a mysterious golden man appears over the ocean. Soon after, a small fraction of people start developing superpowers after they've reached a psychological breaking point called a "trigger event." These people are called "parahumans," and they basically divided themselves as heroes or villains. There's a whole lot of shit involving the nature of powers in this universe, but that's getting into some deep spoilers. And as for the way heroes and villains work, you'll probably find out in the game, but in general heroes in this setting don't compare to, say, the Justice League. Unfortunately.

Parahumans' abilities are very diverse, and divided into different classes depending on their effects. There's a little rhyme to remember them all:

    Mover, Shaker, Brute and Breaker
    Master, Tinker, Blaster and Thinker
    Striker, Changer, Trump and Stranger

I'm not going to list what they all mean, though some you can probably infer anyway. Parahumans' powers can cover more than just one classification, and their strength in each classification is ranked on a scale of 1-10. Some powers break that scale and go up to like 12 or something, but those are outliers.

About ten years after parahumans started showing up, the Endbringers started appearing. They're called the Behemoth, the Leviathan and the Simurgh. The Behemoth is about what you'd expect with a name like that, and controls energy. I guess think Hiroshima whenever he attacks. The Leviathan's kind of a bipedal reptilian thing and controls water. He likes slamming tsunamis into cities, and he's actually sunk islands like Newfoundland. The Simurgh is the only real telepath in the setting, and she's fond of infecting people with the crazy, making her a threat even long after she's attacked. Think the Reapers' Indoctrination from Mass Effect, if you're familiar.

It's basically like having three Godzillas. They're all but invulnerable, they kill thousands every time they attack (with their death toll in the millions overall), and they attack like clockwork every few months or so. As the name suggests, it's believed that they'll eventually destroy humanity.

The golden man, who calls himself Scion, is viewed as the most powerful parahuman. He goes around and intervenes in crises across the Earth, though he never talks to anyone or cooperates with other heroes. In fact the only word he's ever said is his name. No one knows where he came from or why he's here.

I think that covers the basics without getting too into story details and spoilers. The best way to get a handle on it with that wiki being so limited is to actually read the story. Though I don't recommend the story quite as highly as some around here do.

    EDIT:

    Well then.

Well, I meant the Worm RPG stuff, I'm pretty up to date on the actual story, and if I have any questions about that I'll just bug the author :p

But yeah, I'm good to join since I've done a quick read through of the links and it looks pretty awesome.

Since we're up to four players now I'll be starting up the City Creation thread, where we'll go over the details of this campaign and work out where we're starting.

EDIT: If anyone else wants to join we've still got an open slot.
