Count me in on the X-Men hate. Only mutants I ever cared for were Cable & Deadpool, and that's because Fabian Nicezia did an excellent job paring the two together in a run that had little to do with the usual X-Men bullshit, soap opera and drama. My hate only emerged with the fires of a million exploding suns when the X-Office swallowed up Namor and then had Storm turn against her husband Black Panther and his country (while throwing out some truly bullshit lines about how bad a husband he was) and had her trying to come up with excuses as to why she aided in the decimation of said country when Namor and a group of X-Men outright flooded it because they were sheltering a group of Avengers during Avengers versus X-Men (a summer event).

Really, it's more fuck the X-Office and the X-Fans than anything else for me. A lot of their characters are very salvageable and I feel that it would do a lot better as a separate world away from the Avengers with some duplicated (and reworked) characters between them like the Fantastic Four, Storm, Wolverine, Deadpool, etc... to maintain some of the ties and history already developed.

As for Scarlet & Quicksilver... meh. They never resonated with me as characters and Scarlet's history is basically a how-to-retcon-a-character-into-uselessness that is only outstripped by Hawkman & Hawkwoman over in DC. Quicksilver is basically Loki by way of attitude and daddy issues, except he doesn't carry the mutants-first creed these days and he's got a couple of proteges from his time in Avengers Academy.

I love Scarlet Witch and Pietro. They are some of my most favorite marvel characters.

But they suffer like you won't believe whenever they get into mutant related business. Everyone focuses on them being Magneto's kids rather than anything else. Never taking their actual characters into account. They do ridiculously better as characters when in the avengers.

For one thing they were far less angsty than a majority of mutants in the X-men. Despite in Marvel continuity being the most public mutants for years when they joined Steve's kooky quartet. Steve Rogers used to have to watch over their house at night to make sure people didn't picket them when they joined the avengers.

Pietro spent decades thinking his father is the scum of the earth, he pretty much flat out said, Captain America is more of a father figure to him than Magneto ever was.

Now the past decade or so because BENDIS, he pretty much became "My daddy issues. All I wanted to do was please you." Rather than his previous, "Magneto, you fucking suck. You emotionally and physically abused me and my sister, I'll never forget that. Why the hell are we even related?"

Wanda was even more well adjusted. She thinks of Django Maximoff as her father, and Magneto a glorified sperm donor. Her strongest feelings for him has always been pity. She was pretty much the heart of the avengers for years. Steve put her in charge of morale of the team, she was one of Steve's closest confidantes, the kind, compassionate figure the rest of the team could always count on to support them. She nearly quit for half the team to support them when she felt they were being persecuted over the years. She was a sweet woman who loved her team more than anything who never judged anybody. The woman who saw Vision was more human than even thought he could be. There's a reason the Avengers were so forgiving of her because she was possessed by the Life-Force. Because she was there for them when they all had their issues. Everybody on the team loved her. She has also been on the team uninterrupted the longest out of nearly everyone since she joined. Anyone who says there are more deserving members got to check to their Avengers history. Wanda is one of THE Avengers. And she and her brother were part of one the best Avengers team.

I'll keep saying it but Wanda's biggest damage was Bendis. Everybody agrees he flat out assassinated her. He was the guy who made her so unpopular and any person who remotely likes Wanda tries to ignore what he did to her. He made her powers upgrade to reality warping for absolutely no explanation that they had to retcon away years later. Because fuck Wanda, she doesn't have punchy powers. So I'll make her go crazy over an issue she got over like a actual adult decades ago because I hate continuity, a issue he keeps having every time he writes a character that everyone complains about. Seriously, he is terrible with continuity. For example, Wanda would never, ever call Magneto, "Daddy." Like he made her. Not to mention what he did to Phoenix.

Her powers are pretty much a more powerful version of Longshot's when written by a writer that understands her like Busiek who wrote a fantastic Wanda in his Avengers run.

Now my Pro-twins rant ends with some pics.

Edit: According to interviews, Wanda and Pietro are supposed to be around 18-19. Making them the first MCU Teen heroes.

Pietro confirmed to be Wanda's physical support, Wanda's Pietro's emotional support.

Wanda looks amazing! Quicksilver...I like it aside from the brown beard and white hair. It just looks really off to me. I think they could have done better.

No, you aren't. The Mutants are arguably the worst thing in Marvel. The X-Men are by far my least-favorite superhero roster of all comicbookdom. The only decent mutants are Cable, Deadpool, and Wolverine, and Deadpool arguably isn't a mutant, and Wolverine isn't always of acceptable quality. Quite rarely these days, actually.

The X-Men as a whole are a bunch of angsty whinging bitches that have far too great a tendency to suddenly become evil for absolutely no apparent reason, and the "mutants are a metaphor for racial/sexual/whateveral equality" line has been beaten so far into the ground that it literally cannot be taken seriously anymore no matter how it's presented.

People shat all over Xavier for having plans to take down various superhumans if they ever went rogue, but considering how liable the X-Men are to flip shit and become evil any day of the week, LOOKING AT YOU SCOTT AND YOUR FUCKING LITERAL NAZI ARMY, not only would I have a plan to kill all of them, I probably wouldn't let them leave the property without explosive collars on.

    When/why/how did this happen?

Batman did the same thing, and if Batman did it, it can't possibly be a bad idea :sherlock:.

I think it might have been around the time that Magneto was hiding in Antartica? or during the stuff with Xavier's evil twin or who ever she was. That said I think a lot of the semi-recent stuff (that I've read) has been about what a dick/ paranoid loon Professor X turned out to be.

That said I always kind of enjoyed Nightcrawler. Still I won't claim to have any real knowledge of the X-men out side of Ultimate and they were all dicks in that.

The latter part of the 70's, all through the 80's, 90's, and well into the 2000's X-men is what made Marvel money. That's why they went apeshit and made 50 spin-offs, totally drenching the industry with every conceivable mutant comic there could be.

They were the rainmakers, so they are arguably the best thing Marvel ever did, business-wise. Comic-fans loved them and associated themselves with them, because any average joe out there could be a superhero if all they had was this specific gene. You didn't need some impossible Radioactive spider to bite you, or be a billionaire scientist, or be shot with gamma rays or whatever.

ANYone could be a superhero. Early on, they also had problems just like real people. They were far from perfect. That's why mutants are/were popular.

And just like Pop Music, they fucked up and played the same song over and over and over until everyone but the die-hard fans are sick of it. They realized they screwed up and saturated the market so out came the "No More Mutants" storyline (Scarlet Witch gets god-like powers and turns all but a couple hundred people back to normal)

Then things just got stupid. I could swear all the writers at Marvel passed around tabs of LSD and said, "Fuck it! Let's do this... and this... and this... and totally screw up the best thing that ever happened to us!"

It's still going on to this day.

I don't hate mutants. I actually like the concept, but what they've done with it makes me cringe every time I see a new movie opening or see a new title on the racks.

I've probably said it before, but I think I would prefer it if the X-Men and the associated mutant stuff were relegated to its own universe. The ones that are kind of part of both worlds like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch here could find a way to cross between worlds somehow.

This Quicksilver isn't perfect, but I think he's easily the 'runaway' winner over DoFP!Quicksilver. Love the look for Scarlet Witch.

Just set up copies on either universe. DC did that to Batman, Superman & Wonder Woman for Earth-2 because they had enough continuity and history with it's characters that it was needed.

    Squirrel Girl
    Deadpool

    Havok
    Etc. etc. etc.

Mutants are littered throughout the decades all over the Avengers. This isn't even counting all the sub-groups, Avengers Academy, honorary Avengers, reserve status, etc., etc.

Some of them, like Wolverine and Beast share pretty much equal time between the teams for quite some time. You can't have Marvel without having Mutants, unless you keep them out altogether and make their powers come from something else, like they're doing with Dr. Strange.

I'm interested in how they're going to explain SW and QS's powers without going the mutant route.

See, that there's a big problem. If they go the mutant route, they invite all the suck that involving themselves with the X-Men movies (and verse) brings.

If they don't, everyone will rage because then they're not the same characters.

Why use them at all, for fuck's sake? Why?

And no, I disagree that Marvel would be worse off without mutants. It would be infinitely better.

It's a very simple explanation: because they saw profit in using them.

There are tons more, and better heroes to use, but someone probably did a sampling poll and their names rose to the top of the list. This is Disney we're talking about here. Profit is king. The opinion of the small minority of people out there that are mutant/X-Men haters mean absolutely nothing to them.

I frankly would like to see Wasp (Not the classic version, but the Ultimate Version minus the whole egg laying thing (ick.)) as a team member.

Inhumans, reportedly. They've already started replacing Mutants with Inhumans as Marvel's Resident Minority Group With Superpowers in Inhumanity.

Okay. I can sorta see that. Disappointing, but not unacceptable. I'm already assuming that they'll hand wave the Terrigen Mists and simply have them be born with their own powers.

I wouldn't mind seeing an Inhuman movie with Black Bolt and Medusa in the lead. I like them when they interacted with other comics, but not they had their own.

Feige recently announced that Wanda and Pietro won't be Inhumans.

But honestly, Wanda and Pietro not being mutants really don't effect them. They have 20+ years of storylines before Magneto was retconned into being their father. And despite what assorted adapations tell you, they really don't interact with Xmen much.

My guess for their powers. Cthon/The Other appeared in Avengers to give Loki his staff IIRC. Cthon is the eldritch abomination that gave Wanda her powers in comic canon.
