I liked Oberyn. Epic stabbing is epic. Expecting more of that. And I agree that Arya is creepy, but I would like her to be more intimidating. Sadly, I doubt the actress is capable of pulling it off when she's 16 but looks 12. Though perhaps her unassuming appearance will serve
    a future assassin
    better.

A brilliant first episode. Much better than the last season start. Oberyn Martell was played wonderfully by Pedro Pascal. And of course, the dragons, oh God, the dragons. The detail they gave for Drogon was fantastic. Viserion and Rhaegal were completely ignored, but that's expected. Arya still has a lot to grow. Needle should help with that.

Looking forward to the rest of this season. Especially Joeffery's wedding.

Dragons were better than some I've seen in full feature films.

I wish Oberyn had a fuller beard. I always imagined him as Hawke from Dragon Age. Other than that, it was great (excepting HBOGo's horrible performance.)

Now that you've mentioned it, Oberyn does kind of look like Hawke.

    Those Dragons were absolutely gorgeous.

This episode got me thinking, does Jamie view Joffrey as a son? does he have any kind of paternal feelings for him or his other kids?
Didn't the Hound get injured in the inn which led to Arya abandoning him? I wonder what they'll do with that since they ignored it

Excited to see the Thenns although I expected a little bit more than we got. The guy just didn't have the presence of a god for me.
Looking forward to the purple wedding which should be soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started deviating from the books more often this season.

    @Quick Ben:

Dad!Jamie - I sincerely hope not. He's got too much going on what with Cersei giving him the cold shoulder and being made left-handed.

    your spoiler:

    I hope Arya kills him

Cannibals: why is always the arm? One would think with what GoT has already showed us, they could have gone with the thigh, which just has more meat or some meatballs if you know what I mean

More puns this way, they already have the eat crow thing going on.

Put them together and its a handy way to imply that it tastes like chicken.

As it was said before, I believe they will start to deviate from the books more and more as the series progresses. It is the only thing which makes sense, storywise. They cannot cram all the tidbits from the books into a TV series, so they have to priorotise.

That said, I think it will be a good season, maybe not the best, but we will see what we'll see. It has potential (depending on how much they'll deviate) but I do no think they will manage to make greatness, apart from single events from the books, like:
Joffrey dying in the next episode, Tywin dying in the last and Lady Stoneheart rising from the dead in the same
    .

I am not the biggest fan of the TV series, though the effort which went into making this series is truly astounding and worthy of respect. I am also disillusioned with George Martin's books. I thought them fine, but (in my opinion) he lost himself and does not know how to finish the series. Not to mention his statement that the deaths of both:
    Eddard and Robb
were made as a big "fuck you" to the readers in order to subvert the tropes of the sympathetic undying character and his son who will avenge him, and planned from the start.

What besides the long time gap between books gives you that impression? It seems to me like Martin is and has been taking the series in a pretty obvious direction, and I'll be pretty surprised if it goes any other way.

But... Thenns... The show went a whole different way with that. I'm at work now, but did they say if that guy was the Magnar?

Which way? I am seriously asking this, beacuse he lost Daenarys, she is somewhere south-east, a new Targararyen just popped up out of nowhere, Jon is about to be raised from the dead (presumably) by Mellisandre, the Westeros arc is mostly irrelevant. Where is the Others invasion which was the hook from the beginning? Where is the fight between the Lannisters and the Starks, which was the driving force for the first three books?

In my opinion he (GM) enjoys the various pointviews so much he will now have a hard time coalescing the various plots into a coherent ending.
This is what happens, when an author is succesfull and yet he/she hasn't planned an ending to his/hers series. It happens very often in the fantasy genre and is the bane of most long standing series.

GM will most likely kill all the characters in the last 200 pages of the last book, just to get a sense of closure. Which is solely my opinion and I hope it is the wrong one.

Ultimately thwarted in her efforts in Essos, Dany flies to Westeros on her dragons. She and
    Jon
somehow join forces, be it through a romantic relationship or some magical realization of
    Jon being a Targaryen.
The Others are somehow driven back / destroyed.

Basically, the barebones plot points that come hand-in-hand with the
    R + L = J and J & D = Azor Ahai / Lightbringer
    theories.

I know that L+R=J is a very popular theory, but during the first episode/book, when talking to Jon, Eddard is pretty adamant that he is his son.
Of course he could be lying, but I dont (want to) think so. I'll be pretty fucking dissapointed if he isn't Ned's son.

I didn't think Ned ever called Jon his son, he said you are of my blood, but that's a fairly open claim considering the Karstarks say the same thing about their family and the main Stark line. Could be wrong but I remember Ned saying Jon shared his blood but never they were father and son.
