That would be a really extreme thing to do to your child wouldn't it? It just seems like something thats just fundamentally wrong to do to anyone let alone your child.

I think it would be better to use calming spells or cheering spells.

There is actually an example in the books of that very thing. His name was Barty Crouch Jr.

Even if his father never used the curse to control him until later, the willingness might imply that he was something of a tyrannical, distant parent before that.

How long can one cast of the Imperius last though? I assume it has to be renewed regularly.

Barty iirc seems to describe it as something that can be maintained for long periods of time and at a distance, but that conflicts with Harry's attempt at it.

We can put that down to skill, though, I suppose. He was successful, and the spell was powerful, but it came off rather hamfisted.

Although he was using it on a goblin.

Keep in mind that both Barty jr. and sr. weren't successful (if "success" is keeping it up at all times): Both broke free eventually. There is nothing to suggest that Barty jr. wasn't a quite skilled wizard, so it stands to reason that the Imperius does decay -- if for no other reason than that it has to be fucking mentally exhausting to keep this spell going resp. at one point every mind might start to fight back.

True, but to have kept people under their control for as long as they did before it began to decay is amazing.

From a legal standpoint, it's quite easy to imagine that an Imperius curse that powerful would have been the worst to deal with of any Unforgivable. At least with the other two, it's relatively clear who's the victim and who isn't.

I highly doubt a 5 year old kid would be able to resist the Imperius cast by a competent adult.

I think 5 year-olds have more strength of will than most adults.

I think it all depends on the kid, and for the record looking back at my childhood I think the impious curse might have been a good thing. Like making your kid study in school.

Somehow I don't think you remember much from what you're studying if you feel as if you're high as a kite.

I'm fairly certain he doesn't buy off the rack. Just imagine having to buy tailored clothes on a groundskeeper's wage.

Looked it up on the wiki:

according to his ministry file provided with the limited edition he's 11ft and 6 inches which is a bit more then 3,5 meter.

    Damn, that's huge.

    Say what now?

Harry Potter Limited Edition: "Harry Potter Limited Edition is a collector's edition bookset based off the Harry Potter films ..."

I suppose at least the wiki has learned how to source. Now people only need actually follow up on the footnotes -- to decide what is Canon resp. from Rowling and what isn't :|
