I'm really of two minds about this idea. There's trepidation after the last three shows, but then, I also wonder, could it get any worse? Visually/media wise, yes, but as far as a letdown is concerned, no. I don't have nearly the expectations that I had for episode 1

Ooh, Andy Serkis is in it. He has a habit of playing interesting/weird characters. Like Gollum, for instance.

 

Eh. The returning cast is no surprise, and I haven't heard of most the newcomers so can't comment on them. Domnall Gleeson is ok - judge him by his performance in 'Black Mirror', rather than his cameo as Bill Weasley - Andy Serkis is presumably going to be playing every non human character in the film, and Max von Sydow is either going to be a regal politician or the hammiest Sith Lord ever to grace the series. Still finding it hard to muster much interest.

 

It better have the Sith.

 

Uh John Boyega is in. I remember thinking "This guy is really good I look forward to seeing him in other stuff" when I watched Attack the Block. Now he is in motherfucking Star Wars. Awesome.

 

I read somewhere that Han Solo is going to play a massive part in the movie.

I'm guessing they kill off Leia really early, maybe even while in the Falcon right after the opening credits. It's not like JJ hasn't done that before (which is the only thing i can think of that wouldn't let that be possible).

I'd imagine 30 years later she'd be some kind of important dignitary still trying to stabilise the system post Empire. An assassination wouldn't surprise me.

A story about that with Luke in the periphery still rebuilding the Jedi order wouldn't surprise of upset me.

As for those cast, surely two of them are Han and Leia's kids? Sydow is probably a politician, Sith or even a force ghost? Maybe?

 

Adam Driver will play a villain wonderfully, IMO.

 

I fucking hope this movie starts with the death of Luke, and his presence is force ghost-y with no major part, just mentoring.

I don't want to see 3 more movies with Han Luke and Leia just all being old and lame and boring. I want to see them in mentor or power roles, but not as main characters.

Side note: could a mod just make this the actual Ep 7 thread? I know we have that announcement for 7-9 thread but that thread seems to cover all new movies, games, books, basically all post disney SW. and it would be nice to have a JUST 7 thread.

This is 30 years after Return, if he's not got anything done yet, then he's fucked it up anyways. I also believe if he builds it in a way that after THRITY FUCKING YEARS it's fully reliant on him he's hardly doing right by anyone.

 

I had just started reading the EU, only to find out it's been entirely thrown out. Can't say I'm excited at all for the sequels now, since they fucked up the preequals to the extent that they did.

 

Wtf, there's no Walmart for force sensitive younglings in coruscant, especially after Vader personally hunted down and killed every. Last. Jedi.

Luke is literally the last Jedi in the movies.

You think thirty years is enough time to rebuild an order that previously stood for millennia? As a novice Jedi?

 

They can 'throw out' the EU stories all they want... but if they get rid of Jaina and Jacen, there will probs be rioting in the streets.

That said, the fact that they cast Daisy Ridley, who looks very much like a young Carrie Fisher, and the fact that this new trilogy takes place around 34 ABY, makes me almost positive that she's been cast to play Jaina Solo.

 

As long as they don't throw out Jacen's story line (specifically later, with the Dark Side

They might not throw it out, but they might not cover it either.

In 34 ABY Jacen is only just beginning the slippery slope to becoming Caedus.

 

If they keep that storyline, they'd better do it a hell of a lot more convincingly than they did in the books.

 

Most people haven't even heard about Jania and Jacen. And given that the production team has already given the EU the short end of the stick, I won't be surprised if they do not use the names Jaina at all in the films.

 

Lucas wrote the prequels. He's not allowed near these ones (it was part of the deal to sell it to Disney). They'll be more like eps 4-6 in that regard.
