Great short story about insanity, dark magic and evil. There is this feeling of scale and some unique atmosphere, both are really rare. And it works well as oneshot, there is no feeling of "I had no time for a proper story".

Thanks to T3t for recommending it in AR.

it's well written for sure but that's pretty much all that I can say of it. maybe it's just me, but there was a distinct lack of, well, anything happening.
tom became obsessed with learning and became the ultimate hikikomori. the end.
insanity, dark magic and horror were mentioned but didn't really take root for the impact that they usually have. perhaps because there wasn't really much for it to contrast against, maybe it was too short or maybe it was just me.
in the end the lack of an actual story being told (in my view at least) just didnt sorta work.

This is a copy of another fic, and it's not done better to warrant legitimization.

Edit: Rescinding the vote in case the fic I'm thinking is actually this fic. I'm not sure.

The author credits the other fic (I'm assuming that's the one you're referring to, Rep) and while the two are similar in describing some kind of rise to power, I don't see the rec'd fic as a copy. I really liked it, actually. I think it hits all the right notes.

    4/5 from me.

I'll take a guess and say this one: Insurgere. Basically, Tom ends up in Hufflepuff. Good stuff.

Tried reading this. Just couldn't get into it. It's just bland and boring.

I liked it. Blasphemous though the thought of creator Tom may be, I found it entertaining.

A bit short, but it didn't feel like it. Kept me enraptured through its 2k words. 4/5

Meh. Could have been great in the hands of a better writer; as is, it was just disappointing.

I thought it could have been fleshed out more but I enjoyed the thoughts and the flow - the one shot is short and interesting and that is enough for me.

    3.5/5 rounded up to 4

I found it interesting. Didn't have any expectations when I went in so it wasn't too hard for me be impressed. But for some reason I still found it to be a bit unsatisfying. That said I enjoyed the story very much.
