Then he'd best listen to Jinsung's advice and start getting strong enough to deal with them.

So... only people from outside the Tower can change the tower?

This feels like something more than only an Irregular being able to kill Zahard and Family Heads, something more... fundamental.

I'm becoming more and more interested in Guides as a whole.

    New Shingeki no Kyojin.

Titans work on cannibal Megaman/Highlander rules. Ymir isn't a human who became a Shifter. She's a human victim who became a normal titan, that then happened to eat a Shifter (the 'friend' she apologized to Reiner and Bertolt for eating), thereby acquiring the ability to turn back into a human. This process can be used to transfer powers and special abilities to others. Titans and Shifters can literally eat each other to steal their powers.

The bait-and-switch plan depended on the idea that Erin, possessing the Coordinate, was too valuable for the enemy to do anything to him. Except there's a problem with that. The Royal Family don't want to capture Erin to use him.

    They want to eat him.

And Historia matters to the royal family for reasons that are just as important as Erin's, which we aren't sure of yet, that have nothing to do with the fact that she's technically royalty. There's something fucky going on there as well.

Also, three named character deaths in two pages. The Anti-Human 3-D Maneuver users don't fuck around. They're a hit-squad of gun-slinging Spidermen

    Wild-ass speculation:
Erin has blocked memories of something to do with his father, his father vanished completely from his life, and we've never seen hide or hair of him again.

I'm starting to suspect that Erin's blocked memories have something to do with him eating the person who was the Coordinate before he was, and that person who originally had it might have been his father.

Why his father would (presumably) instigate this, either feeding someone (or himself) to Erin, and what purpose this serves, I have no idea. But we know powers can be transferred by eating people who have them, Erin's father is missing, and Erin's got a weird-ass power that everybody wants for their own. The math adds up, even if the motive is missing.

it was good, and i was pretty glad to see it around but is it just me or was anybody else expecting something different?
i thought we'd get at least glimpses of what happened to the rest of the guys who were going to challenge oga for the throne of ishiyama and if not that then at least some of what happened on his journeys in hell. how beel's sister came under his care and stuff like that
again this chapter was pretty hilarious, but i cant help but feel a bit disappointed

    Cooking.

Ugh, and there's the Power of Friendship content that likely dooms Kurokiba to defeat. Was hoping he'd win, since a later matchup between Souma and his darkside parallel would have made for interesting reading. Would be great if the story bucked shounen convention in the result here, but I'm not counting on it.

Kurokiba was being portrayed way too hard as a villain. I really hope he wins, but it doesn't look like it right now.

That's a lot of effort to go to in order to essentially say nothing. Beezlebub was, or I guess I ought to say is since it's now got the spinoff, a shounen comedy manga (in the same magazine, no less) that occasionally trolled the conventions. I wouldn't mind seeing this do the same here, but it's not something I particularly expect to see happen.

First of all, if bucking convention happened all the time in every manga, it'd stop being a convention. You apparently don't understand this, and it makes you look really silly, demanding it all the time.

Second of all, when you can't even get the positions the characters have in relation to each other correctly, you don't really get to demand the manga buck all conventions based on that interpretation. You personally think Kurokiba is a villain. I'm pretty sure you're completely fucking wrong. He's not a villain, and he certainly isn't "Evil Soma." We have yet to see anybody in the series that would qualify as an "Evil Soma."

Seeing how the chapter started with an image of him in jail as a child, and his (still incomplete) flashback shows him being quite bitter (and apparently extremely alone), I'm pretty sure he's going to be a justified asshole at worst, and at best, merely misunderstood.

Don't confuse a Vegita for a Frieza. They're completely different character archetypes. If Megumi wins, it will change his heart and he'll be a better person for it and become one of their friends. If she loses, it won't be to set him up as a villain. It will be to cement him as an antagonist for somebody else to beat, maybe Soma, maybe not. The worst that can happen here is Megumi gets to play the Worf, and seeing how this is being pitched as the first time she's made a serious stand for her cooking and what she believes in, the odds of that happening were already incredibly small to begin with.

If you're so sick and fucking tired of the conventions, maybe you should stop reading shonen and go check out another genre for awhile, because I hate to break it to you, but you're only going to keep running into shonen conventions if you keep reading shonen.

Take a deep breath there. You're going to give yourself an ulcer. The 'anti-Souma' thing comes more from artistic presentation than it does from the actual character, though there is some aspect of the latter as well considering the contrast in how Souma and Kurokiba have been shown to interact with the customers at their respective restaurants. They both do their thing with the headbands, and Yukihira Souma has 'snow' (white) in his surname while Kurokiba Ryou has 'black.' This certainly looks to me like an intentional link on the author's part. Most importantly in respect to your presumptuous diatribe about what I supposedly don't comprehend about shounen: I never at any point referred to Kurokiba as a villain. That was somebody else who posted after me. Dark does not necessarily mean evil. It's more of a 'flip side of the same coin' thing.

The bold part of the fourth paragraph is, of course, exactly what I was saying I wanted to see happen to begin with. And really this is the first time that this series has so blatantly invoked the friendship trope during a 'battle'. If it had to happen, then I'm glad it was someone other than Souma doing it. He's better than that, or so I would like to hope. But now that it has happened, the odds of Megumi losing to set up what I had hoped to see as a very interesting matchup are rendered almost nil. I find that regrettable.

It hasn't been mentioned here yet, but The Gamer has a few new chapters out on sites that aren't Batoto. Gnome is adorable and I can't wait to see more of her, especially when she's all leveled up.

'Cept she really isn't what I'd think of when I hear the name "Gnome".

And mngacow translations leave a bit to be desired.

I read and like it. But that like is often tinged with expectation of something bad happening. Expect character death and sadistic villains. In fact, that's practically the point of the story.

character death and villain sadism i can bear with, but at what levels are we talking
    attack on titan-ish or gantz?
or something straight outta game of thrones?

I dunno, dude. It's more shounen-y than any of them but practically all the villains are psycho in some way or another. The first chapter's fairly telling in what you can expect.
