    Trailer

The first half of the trailer is a bit cheesy, but the second half of it really drew me in. It reminds me of early Supernatural.

I liked the trailer enough that I'll give it a shot, hopefully it won't disappoint.

Good. It should. Constantine before it went to shit was Supernatural before it went to shit. There was just one guy instead of two.

So far I'm not seeing any evidence of the wankery that ultimately killed the Constantine line, and a lot of the old vibe that made it interesting. I'm definitely going to give this a try.

I don't really like the girl's odds in the long run, though. Apprentices and sidekicks for Constantine tend to have a really high turnover rate. Part of the profession, you understand.

Needs more expressionless snark and chain smoking.

He hasn't even made a deal with three demon lords simultaneously so they each can't collect his soul without starting a cosmic war yet. Give it time.

Also, going back and rereading some of my old, old Constantine stuff makes me want to commit the most terrible of crimes a writer can.

Funny enough IIRC Instead of Castiel, SPN tried to get Constantine before DC rejected them.

Edit: Apparently network mandates won't let him smoke.

    In the fall.

Also, will be all kinds of fucked up watching Constantine not being a chain smoker.

I dunno how the Keaneu Reeves movie was recieved, but I really liked it - which seems to anger most comic book fans when referring to their movie adaptions these days.

    I'm looking forward to this.

Keaneu was a better adaption of Constantine than most of the runs of Constantine at the time. I don't feel as though the character was significantly impacted by the lack of asshole angels written by edgy twelve year olds and the "have I mentioned I'm bisexual" bulletin every fifth page.

He was an exorcist that fought demons, had a smoking problem, and he manipulated Lucifer over a barrel by the end of it, forcing cosmic powers of eternal darkness to give him what he wanted or screw themselves over.

Classic Constantine. I had no problems with it.

Colour me pleasantly surprised, because I really liked it. Generally, these days, that means there's some followers of the original somewhere wishing it'd die in a fire, lol.

I'd been waiting for a sequal for ages, but i'll settle for this.

This looks potentially awesome. The Supernatural comment is definitely accurate.

Well, if someone can out-Dresden Harry Dresden, it's John Constantine.

    I'll be watching.

    Interesting you bring up Dresden.

I wonder, if this is successful, could it spark a revival/ reboot of The Dresden Files?

I don't know much about Hellblazer, but I can see the parallels between the Reeves movie and the Dresden books.

It would definitely be cool. Personally I think that the best way to do Dresden as TV show is to do it like BBC Sherlock with twice as long episode covering one book and having 3-4 of them per season.

Butcher was asked during the recent AMA if he'd like to see cartoon, video game, or revived TV show - and said he's had conversations about all of those. I'd personally love to see HBO do something with it; given that True Blood has run its course, and everyone and their dog is humping Game of Thrones' leg, HBO or some other pay channel would be the most likely place for it.

If HBO did Dresden, I think I would die of happiness.

Literally cannot think of something I want more.

Does he still own the rights to it to give it to someone else?

I'd honestly take an OWoD television series over a Dresden series. OWoD would be just as engrossing, draw the same audience, and it would be a lot harder to fuck up.

If we have to have extracanon Dresden Files, I'd rather it go the route of high-quality graphic novel shorts or story arcs. There's less chance of things going horribly wrong somewhere in the process if it's Neil Gaimen and Butcher sitting in a room somewhere than if a committee tried to manage it.

I'm pretty sure you mean if anyone can potentially pull a John Constantine that isn't John Constantine, it's Harry Dresden. Constantine came first. Dresden doesn't get to have it named after him.
