I was in the office because I had a migraine and was going to call home, but no one was in the office at the moment, so I was stuck waiting for someone to show up before I could call.

In walks a girl from my grade, who sees I'm the only one there, and proceeds to ask me if she can have a tampon...

Now, don't get me wrong -I was almost as pleased as I was shocked that one of my peers had not only acknowledged my existence without taking the opportunity to mock or belittle me in some way, but actually decided, of their own free will, to bestow upon me some vestige of authority- but, I knew that she was well aware I was in the same grade as her and that I had zero authority whatsoever over anything, much less the tampons. Thus, I was baffled as to why on earth she decided that I was somehow standing in as the gatekeeper between her and the feminine hygiene products of which she surely had a somewhat immediate need, instead of just stepping five feet to her left and grabbing one: A task which didn't even require walking past me, and probably would have been less embarrassing than first asking my utterly unnecessary permission, especially since I had no clue where they were kept, anyway.

Still... A red letter day for me, no pun intended, considering it was not only the closest I'd get to receiving even the grudging respect of my middle school peers, but also the closest I'd get to even tangential involvement in a woman's reproductive process for another five years.

Oh school... how I fucking loathed thee.

But this is HP related.

I don't really understand the hug thing. Is there some kind of old superstition or cultural thing? Genuinely curious here.

Doing the unexpected is one of the basic building blocks of comedy, mein klein freund.

Everyone knows you can force people to do what you want with the Imperius, so that wouldn't be funny, just obvious.

"You can't say 'no' if you're dead," on the other hand, is not only unexpected but is as funny as it is morbid and disgusting... unless it's actually being said to you with intent; it's not quite as funny, then.

Interestingly enough, there are some unfortunate people out there who literally have difficulties with knowing what is funny. One of my ex-girlfriends would have probably thought the joke made no sense, precisely because Imperius is clearly the "right" spell... but she also couldn't interpret facial expressions properly (some she couldn't even make, herself - her attempt at a seductive look was... not), nor could she detect and understand sarcasm or irony.

I get that not only is Draco having to hug someone he isn't really familiar enough with to be hugging, but it's also like hugging a shark - this guy is dangerous enough to metaphorically bite you in half at any time, and Draco knows that.

It still comes off being as amusing as it is uncomfortable - possibly because it came so out of left field for those who read the books. I'm sure there were people outside the U.S. that got a giggle out of that scene, too.

 

I want Taure to make a post now about how periods would work in the magical world. Like blood replenishing spells, vanishing charms, Magic Midol etc. Also birth control.

No. I doesn't makes us uncomfortable. Just now we were discusing necrophilia and mind control sexual harasment, and there were kill-offs, and all other crazy :awesome shit. I honestly wonder if Taura HAS given thought to witch-puberty already. I just assumed magic.
