If someone dies while under the effects of Polyjuice, i.e. they look like someone else, they don't revert to their true self upon death, right?

That's the accepted fanon. Don't believe we have canon sources though.

I asked because I remember reading about Barty Jr.'s mother who took his place in Azkaban and died there in his stead. I'm inclined to doubt the Dementors did the grave-digging and body internment, so I just had the notion that if you died under the effects of the Polyjuice, your body stayed locked in that form.

Of course, this is just speculation, and for all I know his mother's body was disposed in some other fashion rather than interred in a grave by human hands.

I actually like the version that the Dementors did the grave-digging. It makes little sense, but just cracks me up. Imagine a Dementor with a shovel, that's just hilarious.

New Dementors aren't randomly spawned . . . the bodies at Azakaban are put to use.

That, or they're given new "life" and purpose. Each man that dies there is turned into the next Dementor, doomed to spend eternity torturing others like himself.

Question: how would one call a story which has a character from the real world appear in the HP universe, but is not an author self insert and is not the POV.

    A poorly disguised self-insert.

Might be fanon, but I think I can recall Sirius mentioning that the Dementors buried the dead on Azkaban.

Yeah I remember like that as well. In fact in GoF he says he watched them bury Barty jr. from the window of his cell.

Right you are, Tasoli. Here's the quote of it:

I wish it was a bit more specific, saying if he saw the body itself or just the act of burying.

Obviously, the Dementors worship the Drowned God and any other method of burial is blasphemous to them - so all of Azkaban's unclaimed dead are given over to the Drowned God.

I think it is specific enough. It sure doesn't say he saw a her buried. Says him buried. And he saw it happen with his own eyes.

Pretty sure that makes it that polyjuice is permanent if you die with it on.

... or that she was dead for less than an hour after the point where she drank polyjuice potion last. In theory, she could have changed back buried, where no one saw it. And since no one dug her back out, no one would know.

    Well fuck.

She probably did die right away. It's not like she smuggled in a batch to constantly take it?

That's a really tight window though.

Bring your wife to her death at prison and take son away, then wife dies and holds son's image while getting buried, all under an hour.

I guess it could have happened that way as well. Since I missed the bit where Sirius says it was a deathbed visit. And it probably all happened very quickly.

But the bit that stuck with me now is where he says that Crouch never came for his son's body.

Now I know travel is instantaneous and we don't know how Azkaban is protected. But I'd imagine it has Anti-Disappiration hexes and it takes more than an hour to leave Azkaban, get a message to the father and receive his response or lack of response.

Plus it says he never came, not that they called him, to me that says they waited before burying.

    So tl;dr

    Polyjuice is permanent?

Edit: We're quibbling over what was probably an easy prose decision for JKR to show Barty's heartlessness. And this makes headcanon for us. lol.
