And you'd have a hard time having much of a plot unless you pulled the cliched old 'Sandaime pities Naruto's emotional state and reassigns him to become a regular Genin' device. After which most authors would proceed to follow canon almost to the letter except with Naruto kicking more ass.

 

well you can still follow the main canon plot for the most part...i actually prefer that to the many horrible tries at creativity i've seen from some authors (usually send them to some other hidden village to help them with some 'major bandit' problem or crap like that). all you've to do is focus a bit more on the life, daily duties, etc of an anbu/root. they can't just stand around just wearing their masks when not on some big suicide mission...there has to be some kind of routine, too (like patrols). with this stuff you bridge the time when the rookies do their gardening D-rank shit until you get to the chuunin exams. from there you have the main plot again and could practically go anywhere...let danzou order him to assist orochimaru like he did with sai...naruto could also pursue him through the forest of death and generally be the 'good guy'...you can choose the side on which naruto fights in the invasion...he could escort or pursue sasuke on his way to orochimaru (i think the last sharingan of the village would warrant to send at least one anbu)...so many possibilities. of course coming up with some new main plot is also fine but i haven't seen many well done.

 

That could be the given plot. Assist Orochimaru yet gets too drawn into the darkness? The Sasuke issue could be interesting, I for one, actually like the lad (I think I'm the only one here), but I still want Naruto to be the main "character" throughout the story. I also wanted to try out for the first time Naruto and Hanabi by making Hanabi Hinata's twin since... it's never used before as far as I seen fics.

Well, my Naruto fic is based off of an original idea thought up by me. Basically, Naruto loses the ability to channel chakra through his fingers because the pathways in his fingers get destroyed. He then needs to find a way to use jutsu and stuff without handseals because the seals alone are useless without chakra flowing through the fingers, at least in my fic.

 

So? >_> I never really intended the whole using jutsu without seals when I thought up the idea, and thats just what Naruto wants to find out how to do, but its not what he eventually learns.

 

Kabuto promoted to Jounin and taking on a Genin team for Orochimaru >_>.

I would try that but I'm so dedicated to this new idea (which I keep changing the overall plot) that I dont wanna push it off. I'm off punishment (I think) so maybe I might have a go at it... just maybe. Depends on my report card and if I can get a standard plot. ^_^
