How the Internet Tried to Rig the Steam Summer Adventure.

It's funny how a title can be essentially true, yet overly sensational at the same time. I knew about the reddit business, pretty early on. Looks like the Red team jumped ship, or something. :mrgreen: (Don't look at me...) Or maybe the effectiveness of the cease fire was only ever an illusion of coincidence, in the first place.

Up until I read this article, though, I thought I'd just missed (through my amazing ADD powers) that the second and third place teams would also get free games (since I only noticed that, this morning). Turns out it was changed, yesterday, to try and inject more competitiveness back into the game.

Good to know I hadn't just been failing to notice that info for nearly a week... :facepalm

You aren't in a team yet. If you check my Steam profile you can see I've got a banner for Pink Team rocking it, whereas your profile doesn't have one. That's the easiest way to check.

 

There's a button that says "Get Started" or something like that; you can click on that to be assigned a team, or you will be assigned one the first time you vote on a community choice or, I would assume, buy something.

 

I wasn't level 8 before joining, so that may have affected why voting on the community choice didn't get me started, but buying a game definitely doesn't.

 

Sort of new to the Steam thing. I got two of a four pack of Torchlight 2 if anyone is interested in trading or whatever.

 

Got a copy of Frozen Synapse if anyone wants it.

 

I've been at least interested enough in it to apply to every Steam Gifts giveaway for it. If you've still got it, and are up to it, my Steam ID is in my signature.

 

So... I've only bought one game so far this entire sale. Anyone else feeling like there isn't much you don't already have or just don't really want much?

 

That's been pretty much the entire sale for me, too. I'm pretty sure I haven't bought any of the major deals so far because they're not interesting.

The games I did buy were smaller things that would never get in a daily deal or a flash sale anyway.

 

Oh God, Transistor is on sale at 25%.

I want the game, but 25% isn't enough for me. Maybe during the Winter sale!

And hot damn, at 85% it'd practically be a crime to pass up Tropico 4.

I love these sales.

It looks beautiful. It's also the primary reason I grabbed Bastion when it was on sale.

Only in the sense that, if you're not on the red team, you might be saying, "Dammit, that's fucked up!" I'm really interested to see whether red can actually take another day... or even both days.

Interestingly, I read something a while back about how, in situations where there is a red team and a blue team, red tends to win a significant majority of the time (at least in multiplayer FPS games).

Given a binary choice, I'd still prefer blue. White, black, or purple would be even better, though.

 

I think there was a study about football teams once that showed teams who have a red kit win significantly more trophies than teams who wear blue.

Caved in and Got Tropico 4 and Transistor; added Child of Light in the heap as well but no discount

In terms of games this season does seem a bit lacklustre. Nothing yet which jumps out and yells "Buy Me!!"

Fighting game fans might want to look at Injustice ultimate edition $7.49 seems a steal to me

 

I've liked many of the Street Fighter games, and the Capcom/Street Fighter vs Marvel/X-Men stuff. In fact, I've liked them even though I completely stink at playing them (the same can't be said for math).

Despite being more a fan of Marvel than DC (and sucking at fighting games), I'd have probably grabbed this, and it is a damn good price... too bad it didn't come up near the beginning of the sale, instead of after I'd spent my cash on other things. :|

No regrets there, though, really. I can always get Injustice later, especially since A: It's not like I would be playing multiplayer, anyway, and B: I hear the Injustice multiplayer experience leaves something to be desired.

I'll be upgrading (kudos to Capcom for not forcing existing players to buy a whole new version of a game they own most of already) my SSF4: Arcade Edition to Ultra, eventually, too... even though, again, I suck at it. I mean, can't stand all the stupid Ryu clones in the game, but a new Cammy clone? Eh, I guess I can get behind that; she and Crimson Viper (and Sakura) are some of my favorites.

A lot of repeats and "meh" at this end of the sale, IMO.


EDIT: LOL, I guess they're saying that, after the red team's three-day streak, Pink's victory was an upset.





Meanwhile, in the future...

 

Just impulse bought Crusader Kings II, packaged with all the DLC, after two years of thinking, "Hey, this could be a cool game!"

It's not my fault, it costs eighty dollars most of the time... 50%, and only two days left...
