Well, I'm not a big reader of the Dresden fandom, I'm only just now reading the books (on the 3rd one now), but I did read Awaken Sleeper by Water Mage. Unfortunately it's been on hiatus for some time and we all know what often follows when that happens, but it's a good read nonetheless. And, according to a note in the author's profile (projected chapters), it was close to being finished. Who knows, maybe it will be.

 

These are the ones that came before.

Harry Potter: Abjuration, by this Surrarin bloke.

Pretty sure there's also one or two others that I've blanked on.

 

There was a short story where Sirius crosses over to Dresden's world and meets Margaret. I thought it was pretty good. I forgot the name of it though.

What do you mean by similar? If you want the stories to just meet the general requirement of "Voldemort won", then check out Prince of the Dark Kingdom.

This may end up being a weird one.

What I remember about the plot: in the beginning, Harry and Luna (they're Hogwarts age, later years) are transported to another dimension by means that I can't recall. They go to Hogwarts only to find out that this is a world where Voldemort won the war. Over their stay they learn that it is believed that the leaders of the good guys in this world apparently ran, leaving the country at Voldemort's mercy.

Bellatrix is the Headmistress and Hogwarts is a very different place. It seems like an experiment in the survival of the fittest. During meals the staff are protected from the students by a barrier while students rampage over each other to grab the food. There is a black market in the dungeons, the resident Hermione dresses like a slut to infiltrate the enemy camp... Hogwarts is pretty much a hive of misery.

As the story develops, Harry and his new friends decide to infiltrate the dungeons, looking for Luna (the dimension traveler Luna) who had been taken by Death Eaters, I think. I distinctly remember that Harry and Neville move through a couple of narrow tunnels. Harry ends up getting caught and he and Luna are tortured. Eventually he gets a Divine Power Up and frees them both.

I also remember something about the crew stealing a gem from Bellatrix's necklace to use in a spell/ritual which is successful and they manage to make contact with Dumbledore from the original world. I don't remember if the story was a wip/abandoned or finished and if so, how it ended.

This is a vague memory, but the title might (and this is a very tentative might) have been in latin or something similar.

Another general pointer is a lot of angst.

Now, here's the biggest problem. I read it in Polish and have no idea if it ever got translated into English or if it was translated from English. If fellow Poles on DLP see this post and something tickles the back of your mind, suggestions would be much appreciated. I have been searching for this story for a few days, but I haven't been successful (duh). Obviously, this question is mostly directed at people who have been reading fanfic for a few years at least.

 

Is there a story out there which showcases the scary side of Hogwarts? I mean, sure it's a second home for 'those lost boys', but it's a large-ass castle with ghosts and poltergeists and unused classrooms and dark corridors. Anything mildly scary, which can make me look over my shoulder, would be highly appreciated.

I think Renegade Cause did this in part, with the creepy Peeves. I loved that. Dat story.

 

This premise alone would make it worth a read for me, if I knew polish.

Looking for a story in which Voldemort is harry's brother, a fact upon which he capitalizes in order to take over the world.

Harry and Tom grow up together at an orphange, and Harry's guardian adopts Voldemort near the end of the story, so this kind of fits the request. But they don't use it to take over the world, the adoption happens at the end of the story.

 

No harry was with the dursleys I think and it was better written than that appears to be
