To be fair the 2 second item cool down part isn't really that big of an issue, since his knock-up and speed-up are on such low cool downs anyway.

Rylai's gives an extra 50 AP over the Iceborne Gauntlet, amounting to +50 damage on your Q/R, for 100 total. Iceborne gives you a bonus +125% of base AD(around 120 or so, I imagine, at max level) for an estimated +150 bonus damage as splash every time it activates. Landing a Q is pretty much a guaranteed melee hit, so it gets the +150 damage as a bonus after, let alone re-activating afterwards.

For someone that fully expects, and even desires, to be hitting things with their basic attack combined with some low CD skills, the proc is very nice.

That's not considering the 10% CDR which may be handy. 60 Armor + 500 Mana(~250 effective HP for Blitz's passive) compared to flat 500 life? Well, that might depend a bit on the team setup, but armor is always useful to some extent, and the Mana is still effective HP for Blitz.

Really, it's the slow which is your main point of contention, right?
Rylai's:
"Unique: Your spell damage will slow the target's movement speed by 35% for 1.5 seconds (15% for multi-target spells and damage-over-time spells)."

Iceborne:
"Unique: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals 125% base AD bonus physical damage to surrounding enemies and creates a field for 2 seconds that slows enemies inside by 30% (2 second cooldown)."

So, Rylai's gives you a 35% slow for 1.5 seconds on your Q, and a 15% slow for 1.5 seconds on your R. Being your only sources of spell damage, they are the only things which will cause the slow effect. Actually, the ult passive might count as a single target slow, I suppose, but that's not something to really plan around.
They do have the benefit of functioning even if the target dashes or flashes away, for the remainder of the duration. That said, the flight time of Q-pull, followed by a knock-up probably actually just about exhausts most of the 1.5 second duration that starts when the Q first impacts the target. I suppose your ult would activate an aoe 15% slow, but, well, that's only 15%.

Comparatively, the Iceborne will trigger the 30% slow for 2 seconds after your knock-up hits, wasting only perhaps half a second of duration during the knock-up itself. After which you can reset the proc, and thus the 30% aoe slow, with your speed-up(if you ulted immediately after they landed), or your ult after just over a second, then your speed-up right after, followed by another knock-up, and repeat the cycle.


Ultimately, I would say that if you are invested in playing Blitzcrank, then at least give the Iceborne Gauntlet a fair chance. Try it out in Normal first if you're not sure.

The difference between Silver and Gold 5 is the fact you play a champion that stomps lane.

Stomp lane, get a gold lead, transition it to get outer 3 towers, group up 5 and win.

 

The way I see it, to get to Diamond 1 I would have to play every day as much as possible. You simply can't grind your way to D1, you HAVE to be really good at the game. I'm just not sure I can be bothered putting that time in right now. Forget Challenger altogether. So I'm satisfied with D5 for now.

 

Iceborn all the way for Blitzcrank. Even if Rylai's had better offensive and defensive stats than Iceborn (it doesn't) or the Rylai's slow passive was better than Iceborn's AoE slow proc (it isn't), the build path for Rylai's is so horrible that I'd still buy Iceborn.

 

You can tell by his score that Teemo was a bad guy.

 

Been on a tear as of late, up to Silver 2 now.

 

I had an eighty minute long ranked 5s game last night. Playing Anivia does not for a fast game make.

 

Did my placements. Silver V. I don't have to trudge my way up bronze, and I already have people I get to call scrubs.

Best of all, I did it with absolutely no help.

Yeah, I duoed with Dellez a bit, Supp/Adc. Went well most games, really only lost due to bad junglers or other lanes getting creamed on.

I made it to Silver 4 btw. I am getting closer to Gold.

 

Went on a 9 game win streak in ranked 5s to get out team from bronze 2 to silver 5. Fuck kassadin is broken.
