    Hi, DLP.

I was wondering if you guys/girls could assist me with writing a believable incesteous relationship. A few weeks ago I was challenged by someone to write a fanfic where Harry is in an incesteous relationship, I accepted the challenge since it semed like a fun experiment. Since I knew little of how incest could be done well I decide to read some stories involving incest between Harry and a family member. Sadly, they were of little help. There were no fanfics where I could see a decent progression from family member to lover. The only benefits for reading those stories was to learn what not to do and decide that I will pair Harry with a twin sister since there is no enjoyable, that is decently long, fanfic with that pairing while there are some decent Harry/Lily stories. My hope is that you could suggest some good starting points for the twins that would be best for to nuture the future incest.

I've thought of having the twins not know of each other or at least not meeting until Harry enters the magical world. This gives them little time to act as siblings before they reach the age they become interested in relationships. I'm guessing that it would be easier or more understandable for them to grow attracted to each other that way or at least that is my understanding. I believe that seriouscribble was going to go down this route. While it is a good choice I want Harry and his sister to spend time as siblings before Hogwarts.

Currently I'm leaning towards Harry and his sister growing up with Dursleys and have a bit of a strained relationship. Due to differences in how they were treated the two develop into people that don't get along. After some character development and saving each other's lives they begin to develop a better relationship. I feel that this would be better as a springboard for moving their relationship from siblings to siblings that are lovers than if they were always on good terms with each other. Of course I have no idea if this is inded a better starting point for their relationship. Or am I just on a fool's errand by attempting to write a believable incest story where the people are aware of their relationship without making them a bit twisted?

Would appreciate it if some ideas for developing their relationship could be suggested.

Jamie and Cersei might show how one operates and falls apart, but it doesn't much touch on how they started off. Also, that society already included many somewhat-acceptable exceptions to the rule against incest for high-born types.

Basically, this would work for the Pureblood-minded Blacks, but for kids being raised by the Dursleys it wouldn't. In fact, anything that might bring joy to their unwanted boarders would be discouraged.

Having them raised separately and meet when entering the hormonal stage would be the classically acceptable/understandable scenario for twincest - "There's something about you that's so familiar... so stirring..."

Making them familiar with each other or hate each other before they hook up would limit the plausible scenarios to 'Harry got so frustrated that he grabbed Harriet and raped her. Somehow, she liked it.'

... which is a really unhappy-making and creepy outcome if you're trying to write a love story.

That's my take on it, anyhow.

If they lived with other, then they would probably perceive each other as family. Therefore, its not very probable that they would develop a reationship as lovers.

If you insist on them knowing each other before they enter Hogwarts, then they should meet somewhere else. Maybe Dursleys would visit that other family from time to time and Harry would interact with his sister occationaly, but not too often.

When they finally arrive to Hogwarts, there are two options:
    1) They could know abut the fact that they are siblings from the very beginning, and work from there.
    2) They could normally interact without knowing that they are siblings, and they would eventually become more than friends, and then they would discover that they are siblings. It would be fun to read reactions of students and that of Dumbledore. Especially if he was the one that didn't mention their relation beforehand.

Would be kind of hard to keep it secret that they're family, since everybody and their mother would comment on Lily and James' children.

While Jaime and Cerseis relationship is insinuated to spring from narcissism, nonetheless a loveless upbringing leading to emotional fragility, however cliché it may be, could be used as a starting point to a dysfunctional relationship.

Essentially my belief is that writing such a relationship with known familial bonds needs highly .. special personalities for the characters in question.

    Suggestions:

    1. Do research into sibling incest, including the "why."

    2. develop a story line that pays attention to the above reasons.

Like wordhammer already stated, ASoFI doesn't going into how the incest relationship between Jaime and Cersei started.

I wouldn't make it so that the two of them hate/dislike each before they hook up. It would be more along the lines of Harry and his sister disliking each other until circumstances make the two go through character development and they begin to grow closer. I was hoping that this shift in perception for the two make allow for a situation, possibly during a moment of grief, where the two end up drunk and have sex with each other. Once sober they'll certainly be horrified along with being awkward around each other for a while and if the act wasn't mortifying enough a part of them would have enjoyed having sex with each other and wouldn't mind doing it again. Could that desire be used to reasonably allow for an incestuous relationship to develop?

This was my original intention and is probably the one that might work the best but if possibly I would prefer it for the two of them to be aware of their relationship with each other while growing up though if it is too unlikely I won't go down that path.

I didn't think of this possibly option. My original idea, the one where they aren't aware of their relationship with each other, was to have Harry's sister be raised with a magical family while Harry lives with the Dursleys. They wouldn't meet until they reach Hogwarts but your idea could work well.

Option 2 would probably work best if I go down the route of Harry and his sister not being raised together.

Not necessarily. It wouldn't be too hard for Dumbledore to declare that one twin was killed the night Voldemort attacked the Potters and then work a bit of magic to make it so that none would be able to know otherwise through magical means. The other twin could be known as the BWL/GWL and thus draw most of the attention leaving the other twin to mostly be forgotten. Said twin could grow up without knowing his/her last name until Dumbledore chooses to reveal it.

A loveless upbringing could lead the twins turning to each other for emotional warm and a sexual relationship at one point. Miss Poki's Parallels is based on this idea. Just not sure if I want to use this idea, not sure if I would like the character dynamics in such a scenario.

I've done a bit of research and will do more. ^_^

Ugh, moustache-twirling!evil!Dumbledore. That's even more distasteful than the incest.

But what if evil moustache-twirling evil Dumbledore was twirling his evil moustache, all evil-like, while evilly banging his sister Arianna? And she's pretty damn far gone in the headspace, few chess pieces short a full set and the rest are all chewed on, so it just makes it more evil and dirty, man. And hell, evil Dumbledore don't care. He probably did it all for a piece of cheese. And he doesn't even like cheese. That's what makes it so evil.

If I go down that route it would be because Dumbledore wants to protect the actual BWL/GWL by having the wizarding world believing that the other twin defeated Voldemort and thus face any threats from Death Eaters/dark wizards. It might be an inexcusable decision but not one that I would say makes Dumbledore evil.

That would be me. And yes, the story you want is in my head. I have not written it. (And no, the actual reason is that I don't have the time to write it).

Since I'm selfish enough to keep my stories to myself, even if I don't write them, and since you want a different premise anyway, here's just the point everything revolves around: Despite what you think (you being the average internet retard), incest is not "hot", but a deviation from the norm induced by fractures in a person's character. Basically, if you fuck your sister, you have Issues. (Ranging from a lack of common morals to being a complete nutcase.)

So the question is, can you write a believable psychologically defective character? If you can't (like basically everyone on FF.net), there's no real point in thinking about writing this story -- or you go down the route of every other story of this kind and have them have sex for no reason, so essentially crack or PWP.

My advice would be to try a oneshot or even just a single scene first, set in media res. With hands-on action, even. See how that's working out for you. See if you can even write it and don't get uncomfortable halfway along. Write it, post it up in the WbA, and I'll be happy to look at it.

    EDIT: Also, I'm watching myself.

If you want a good story for that kind of chemistry, I'd suggest you read Elsa is Suffering. The key point really would be the taboo that the relationship entails. It'd be the kind of thing that'd benefit from developing slowly.

Once it does happen, there's the guilt, the shame and the need to keep it a secret from everyone else.

As for evil Dumbledore. It's fine as long as it's not obvious that he is evil. The worst Dumbledores are the ones that are caught by chapter 3 in Gringotts by the goblins by a 15-year-old Harry. Make him a competent, no matter what you make him do.

    son et lumiere,

    Some free advice:

Sesc just gave you a damn good offer. If you care at all about being a decent writer (rather than just a FF hack like ninety-nine percent of FF writers), I'd take him up on it.

No, he's not the end-all be-all of authorial prowess (and who is?) but he knows what the hell he's doing and I've learned a ton from his comments on my language questions/stories/plot questions.

    Not necessarily.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_sexual_attraction

This was widely discussed in the media when a German sibling-couple, who hadn't known they were related when they met for the first time, tried to take the German laws against incest down.

Apparently it isn't clear what usually prevents us from boning our sisters, but most vertebrates try to choose different partners if available. One theory is the Westermarck effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westermarck_effect

That would mean, if you didn't grow up together with your sister, you actually will find her hot and won't mind boning her. And once you have been fallen in love, such a minor detail as some shared genes won't matter that much, even if it is revealed to you.

Wait a second, could you expound upon this? I don't see why it is indicative of "having issues," I don't think it's indicative of a "lack of common morals," and I certainly don't think it's indicative of being a complete nutcase.

To be perfectly honest, this kind of talk reminds me of past (and even present, sadly) rhetoric that states that homosexuality was/is indicative of the things that you just mentioned. I know you enough to know that you weren't implying some sort of agreement with that particular rhetoric, but there are parallels to be drawn between your statement and statements that have been made regarding homosexuality.
