So, I've finally understood why the Zero Division got their name. It's because they have zero impact on the story. It seems that most Shitternritters are more than a match for them, and the big baddie just blows these fuckers out of his ass every new chapter...

 

I've been reading the chapters, but it's been about 20 or so since I had any idea what's going on.

 

How many quincies can there be that I just can't bring myself to care about?

All of them.

 

Yeah, I was waiting to see if Urahara was ever going to show his Bankai. Pretty much the only thing that I was sticking around for. But this story has been using the same goddamn formula again and again so many times that I just don't care anymore. Last chapter is the last I'm going to read, then I'm dropping it. There's just nothing interesting about it anymore, and I can always look up stuff on the wiki after it's finished.

 

My guess is that when Kubo was a little kid, he wrote up this giant list of awesome super powers he wished he had.

Right now, he's just going down the list checking things off.

Once he hits 'em all, he'll finish bleach.

 

It makes me laugh to think about how Kubo has kept Ichigo out of most of the fighting for the last fifty chapters by effectively trapping him in an elevator. We had thirty chapters of him falling to earth, and now he's on his way back up again.

 

No kidding. He just keeps throwing out more and more Quincies that all leave no impact, because none of them have anything interesting beyond weird, poorly explained powers. The manga's basically a never-ending cycles of characters explaining how their powers work, now.

Quincy: You cannot defeat my bullshit!
Shinigami: Well I have even more bullshit!
Quincy: But you didn't realize that my bullshit has even more bullshit!
Shinigami: Bitch, I invented the art of bullshit!
Quincy; Well I have one last bit of really cool bullshit I haven't used until now!
Shinigami: Well, I can pull bullshit out of my ass better than you can, so I win!

 

Well, yeah, the bankai's of the shinigami that we hadn't seen yet were basically the only new powers that I care about but we don't really get them, instead he throws out these really weird powers.

You wanted Shunsui's bankai? How about a naked fat bearded guy with a weird twist on the cupid theme? Isn't that better?

Retsu's bankai? Here, have odd, whimsical character trait attached to a a weird power instead. You are surely going to remember his name.

 

This last chapter was at least decent. Oetsu from the Zero Division laying waste to two members of the elite Quincies (the name of their group being so trivial that it wasn't worth remembering) with insane speed and the world's sharpest sword, while chopping another guys bullets.

But then it's sad when the coolest thing within the last 40 chapters in a manga about Gods of Death with supernatural prowess is something that's already been done in Hollywood, about wandering Japanese swordsmen... over 50 years ago. What a disappointment.

 

Nothing new here. Still one-sided beatdowns until someone goes "I have yet to use my true power", at which point another one-sided beatdown starts, this time by the other party. Then either a reverse win or a last second rescue.

Which is basically every fight in bleach that has happened so far.
