Squiring is simply the same as getting some to educate your kid. You just get the Squire trait if they're being educated by someone with the Knight trait. (Eventually, they'll get the Squire trait with Knight, of course)

As far as Tourney's go, I didn't need to be a Knight. I just got invited to like, 5 of em. Hoster held like three in a row, then Robert, and just had one hosted by Tywin.

Oh. Might have to do with me being the Warden/Lord of the North and being invited to a tourney by Manderly, could be you can't compete in your bannermen's tourneys and since he's the only Seven worshiper in the North... yeah, Roose didn't get the option to compete. Or could be all those Cruel, Torturer, Tyrant, Dishonorable and Truce Breaker traits preventing me from doing so.

I could probably try to be more friendly with people from down south, but I don't think they trust me all that much. My daughter-in-law, Rhaenys Targaryen-now-Bolton, don't trust me at all since I was the one who killed Viserys, Rhaegar and Aegon. I still wonder how the fuck I managed to get a betrothal with her since she was being fostered by the Velaryons.

Oh and I noticed something really odd in my recent games that happen during/after the Rebellion, and that being that Robert nine times out of ten marries Rhaella Targaryen and proceeds to be completely faithful to her and she to him. No idea how or why this happens.

Is anybody else having trouble finding a suitable match for your character if you follow a minority religion in the ASOIAF mod? It happened to me with Aurane Waters so I just blamed it on the fact that he was a pirate. But then, when I was Shireen and queen no one would marry her because they "must not marry an infidel." I have never had it so that it was so hard to find a wife/husband before, even if I was an infidel. Have you guys been experiencing this too?

Maybe Robert has some serious granny issues so he feels the need to marry his grandma's namesake? In all seriousness that's weird as hell that Robert does that so often.

Speaking of conversion, I just tried playing regular CK2 as Rashka from the Old Gods period, made myself a custom ruler who's a Slavic Pagan and holy hell it was tough as nails to convert the local population. Three of my diviners died in the attempt and I had 2 revolts that I had to squash.

For some reason though I couldn't convert my own wife, who was a Norse Pagan.

After trying, and failing, to keep Westeros together as Rhaegar I finally decided to go back to the beginning and play as Aegon the Conqueror.
With help of my dragons I quickly conquered all of Westeros with all traditional houses remaining in power. (I also kept my traditional faith which sadly means no knights for me) Decided to relocate my capital to Oldtown instead of the traditional places of Kings Landing or Harrenhal since that had the nice side effect of better balancing the power of the various houses (Reach is finally no longer worth two kingdoms) and gave the Riverlands+Harrenhal to my brother Orys.
While the game is no longer really challenging, since dragons+valryian sword prevent most civil wars, I now plan to convert the whole of Westereos to my religion which should give my enough motivation to keep playing for some time.

What are the benefits of the Valyrian faith? If there are any.

I never played having kept the Faith for too long, but I don't believe there are any. It's not particularly fleshed out.

Lots of polygamy if you get people converted though.

Polygamy isn't a benefit, it's the source of more headaches. When I'm talking about benefits, I mean more like if you could get larger levies out of the temples/churches.

Wasn't listing is as a benefit, just that it's the only notable change - there are no troop modifiers attached to the religions I believe (I should probably double check that - either way, doubt it would be a significant number anyways), and the buildings are definitely the same.

Like I said - not fleshed out.

I think that the Red God's faith gives you better levies though. Not sure, not a lot of the religions in AGoT are properly fleshed out.

I think some one from Essos tried to proselytize Sunspear, because now Oberyn and Jon Snow are of the Valyrian faith >.>

I thought Valyrian was extinct at this point, but that's the only explanation I can think of.

In other news, Howland Reed is STILL resisting reconversion to the Old Gods. God damn R'hllor fanatics, man...

Dorne is an odd bunch. Far too often have I looked to Arianne for marriage only for her to be wed to Oberyn.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you follow the Red God and you burn people don't you get bonuses from that too? I'm not sure about the levies for the Red God, but I don't doubt you do get better levies. There is a mercenary company for followers of R'hllor, which is pretty nice.

Weeeelp, Robert died in a Tourney to Gregor Clegane, leaving the Kingdom to my nephew. Catelyn finally gave me a daughter, whom I've married off to Stannis' kid. With 5 kids from here and her constant fucking up, I killed of Catelyn, killed of Cersei's Uncle and her bastard children (She apparently had another one, one of em to jaime) I married her, had a kid -Alyx, a daughter- then killed her, Tyrion and Tywin off.

A couple years later, Edmure died of illness, leaving the Riverlands to Robb. Jon was now 15, and it was passed time he got to marrying Arianne. They already have a kid, named Aemon, so I killed off Doran too.

At this point, it was basically becoming clear that the 7 Kingdoms of Westeros would soon be ruled by Starks, so I was getting bored.

Time to start a new game!

Honestly, I think i prefer the slow take on the game, instead of just having evrything fly by.

Yep. There's stuff like curing illnesses and good luck in battle. Can't remember what else is there. The trouble with that sellswords company is that they're almost constantly employed by someone on Essos who's of the right faith and has enough money. Can't remember how many of them are there.

Yep, it's always more entertaining to start off as a simple lord and work your way up to the top. It helps if you put yourself in an entertaining period as well.

I was just playing in the War of the Ninepenny Kings scenario and obviously the Iron Throne won the war and Maelys was imprisoned, then things got weird.

Jaehaerys revoked the Lord Paramouncy of the Stormlands of the Baratheons for an unknown reason and later he released Maelys from his dungeon and promptly abdicated the throne to him, like what? Why? There was a faction for Maelys to become king, but that faction had a laughably small percent of the population. So now the capital of Westeros is in the Stepstones and the capital of the Stormlands is King's Landing. This is probably one of the most random events I have ever witnessed in the game.

Another funny tidbit from this game that Edwyle Stark had a bastard child with Rickard Stark's wife (I guess Ned's mom was a bit of a freak and a whore) and because Edwyle is Rickard's father Rickard still has an extremely high opinion of him.

Playing a 7996 game for the last couple of hours. Started out as the Lord of Blackwater Bay, worked my way into a High Lordship and after Argilac stupidly married his daughter to a Martell (not even matrilineally) and married another Martell himself, I knew I had to do what needed to be done, for the Stormlands. Killed him, his daughter, fabricated a claim, then overthrew his grandson, killed all his grandchildren.

Then I got a Grand Council to form, got backing for an invasion of Dorne, won that invasion, butchered most of House Martell and raised Stormlander lords everywhere. Now there's one Durrandon left and one Martell and both of them are girls to marry my two younger sons.

Going to integrate Dorne into the Stormlands, then go for the Reach. Once that's done, I think I'll jump over to the North and try to head southwards for the Iron Islands and then maybe go for the Vale + Claw and Rock + Riverlands to make it all nice and power-blocy.

Right, started a new game with the intention of giving Jon some land somewhere and trying to keep the Starks in control of the North, something they seem otherwise incapable of doing usually.

Anyway started off as Ned one year after the Greyjoy Rebellion and almost immediately Theon converted to the Old Gods and became a fanatic. Cat also became a fanatic and began a campaign against my heathen advisers that would last for the next ten years.

Robert began imprisoning anyone he could and soon became a tyrant but remained pretty popular. He did demand that Robb should go and be educated by Stannis though which I agreed to. Jon I sent off to the Greatjon so he could learn to swing a sword properly. I also arranged a betrothal between him and Alys Karstark.

A year passed and then a guy called Cossimo turned up and taught Jon how to be a poet. Theon then began torturing cats and Cat demanded that the septon became the master of coin. Sansa was sent south as Robert wanted her to become a proper Stormlander so she went to the Kingswood to learn how to do that. Robert subsequently got the nickname of "The Fat" and became paranoid to boot.

Cat, her ambitions to replace my good advisers thwarted, decided to introduce new fashions to the court and started feuding with Madge Mormont. Jaime and Robert became best bros and Barriston died, leaving Jaime LC. Balon became a coward at some point as well.

Edmure Tully decided to try and out do Walder Frey in the children department and choose to try and make the eight in addition to the two sets of twins he already had from his two wives. Stannis had another daughter who wasn't ugly this time, but she was stupid. He and Selyse then fell in love.

Both Jon and Robb became skilled fighters, with Jon becoming formidable shortly afterwards. Sansa rather than following her brothers had become fat, envious and greedy in addition to the stutter she already had. I married Theon to Roslin Frey and Cat finally became pregnant. I also married Robb to Madge's third daughter and after the wedding sent him down to Moat Calin.

Wyman Manderly drank himself to death and plague broke out in the Dreadfort killing every Bolton and leaving me with the Dreadfort and a new master of whispers in Ramsey Holt/ Snow. He and Ned subsequently became friends in a pretty major turn for the weird. Also Farlan Stark was welcomed into the world.

I sent Jon off to Randyll Tarly to finish his education and he managed to become a skilled general under Tarly. Anyway gave Jon the Dreadfort and swapped over to him to begin house Dreadstark. I married Alys and checked on Sansa who had managed to ebcome rude on top of everything else. Arya by comparision was a saint and being educated by Sansa Stark senior who was in her mid 70s at this point.

Robb had a son, and Cat became celibate while her brother had another three bastard children. Stannis had been exiled to Andolos at some point and he and his wife were producing a daughter a year at this point.

Renly became Robert's rival and started an affair with his own brother-in-law Quentin Martell before Robert sent him (Renly) to the wall and he replaced Quentin with Alister Thorne.

Randyll two years after Jon left the Reach decided to knight him and Harrold Arryn the most diplomatic man in the world (30) became Lord of the Vale, Jon Arryn deciding to die and Lysa committing suicide.

Jon and Alys had a daughter called Lyanna while Tyrion and his wife Jeyne Westerling had a son named Cowan. Tyrion then died in suspicious circumstances and Jeyne became Tywin's lover, currently they've had three children together.

Joffrey had been educated by Varys and had some truly appalling stats at this point. Sansa was married to Harry Arryn who more than made up for her complete lack of any diplomatic skills with a final diplomacy score of 33.

Mace Tyrell had two sons born around this time, his bastards Martin and Luthor I'm kind of hoping they become septons. Maegary had married Edric Dayne at some point as well who was currently getting his arse handed to him by Darkstar who Arriane had shacked up with ever since Renly had gone off to the wall.

Jon was at this point invited by his friend Euron Greyjoy to a plot to kill Theon who Euron's other friend/ brother Victarion Greyjoy also hated with a passion subsequently he and Jon bonded over their mutual hatred of Theon.

Robb had had four children at this point and Catelyn decided to start plotting to have me killed. It's been a pretty fun game just for the sheer randomness of the whole thing and it's only been about 26 years or so.
