Ynyr is on my favorites and I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.

This for example, is MaximumTroll!Voldemort and its fucking brilliant. I wonder if it has been recc'd?

"Yes, I am Harry's Brother" probably hasn't been rec'd because it's just not very good, hell the summary starts with a lazy error.

"his defeat the shade of Voldemort" is such a simple mistake to catch it's ridiculous.

The general idea of the story isn't horrible, but the writing is consistently mediocre; honestly it's kind of astounding that the authors writing doesn't improve throughout the story.

That actually goes for all his stories. Ynyr doesn't know where his ideas become ridiculous, and his writing is just average at best.

His stories are full of often original ideas, but he doesn't realise that he is overwhelming the reader with the amount of outrageous plotelements. Some of Ynyr's stuff looks as if he isn't really planning ahead, but writing what comes to his mind without following an actual route. Thus his main characters often are inconsistent and bipolar, written not to match a certain characterisation, but a certain idea for the current chapter.

His stories might be some nice timewasters, not more. And if someone is looking for good stories, he/she really should avoid him.

Because all his characters lack empathy. The way they interact and their motivation to do things are completely alien. They are all psycho/sociopaths. Some might see them as parodies/persiflages/laconic/dark comical but I don't think that would truly describe the essence of their characteristics.

It's not looking like an element of style, a matter of writing skill nor a lack of creativity. Such people usually copy "somebody's"(fandom's) else cliched character "texture" or are inconsistent. Personally I think the guy just falls back to the basics. The way how he perceives people and how they interact.

I compare the guy to my other candidate, Perfect Lionheart. He has a similar way to treat characters.

    Flat what.
    Again what?
    ...Where are you getting this?
I going to request that you make another attempt at explaining these two sentences and how they related to Ynyr. I am unsure of what you are attempting to communicate.
Ynyr is in no way comparable to that guy. Just no. I have no idea where you are getting this. He does in fact, write other characters than ones who canonically are sociopaths. And they come off rather well.

Petunia? Yes she would be grieving, but she also wouldn't turn down another means of support, one that means she doesn't have to "go on the dole" as the Brits called it. She struck me as a type who feel some shame regarding such. Any more tolerance/kindness towards Harry is explainable through general human psychology. She finds the only living relative she has left and holds it for dear life. The rest? I....don't get this criticism

I don't see this. Like at all. I just don't understand this.
Nice, fun, and enjoyable methods of killing time? Isn't part of thee point of fanfiction? Granted, I have only read that one story of his, the rest either are of no interest, or the core idea just sends warning flags.
Trolling is a art, a disirregardless one at that.
It's extremely readable, follows a logical story structure, and isn't completely random or terrible, and doesn't actually change Canon Characters too much beyond what their situation may call for.

Ynyr is not a psychopath, the characters that should have empathy in fact demonstrably have empathy, besides, spending paragraphs on muh feelz can be distracting to the actual story and getting on with the plot. You can just infer from the story and circumstances around it. There is nothing here, nothing at all, to base this bullshit on, besides not wanting to directly admit to hating any and all Voldemort Victory stories. Legit ones. But you can totally just weave around this by pulling some link out of your butt, claiming to support it, and pretend like you aren't full of shit.

If someone else would like to actually explain what the flying fuck these idiots are blathering about, I would welcome the discussion. Or even some good witty snark.

Given that my response is entirely made up of quotes from your response, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments.

I do find it ironic that you think when *you* used them, however, that they actually *were* useful, amusing and/or clever.

Your complete lack of awareness of that irony is why you can't understand that the story is, in a word, shit.

Your sense of entitlement - demanding that people explain things to you, or calling people trolls when they quote the author to demonstrate their point, or requiring that people see this as "brilliant" because you have deemed it so - is what makes any discussion with you *boring*. It will never be a discussion, as only your viewpoint has any importance to you.

At the end of the day - I hated it. You didn't. Get over it already.

This thread is the first time I've ever heard of "Ynyr". I decided to read the story you linked just because you're getting really defensive for whatever reason.

These things stood out to me while reading the first fifth of the first chapter:

I've obviously taken these sentences out of context, but this is just bad. All of these numerous questions rob the narrative of any chance it might have had to develop some kind of flow. I can't tell if it's laziness or a bad stylistic choice.

Next up Voldemort mentally addresses Snape as "The Half-Blood Prince". Seriously?

This is when I closed the tab. The story might or might not get better, I don't know and personally don't feel inclined to find that out.

This is of course entirely my opinion, but it's a far cry from "fucking brilliant".

I wasn't going to say anything, but you made me chuckle. When somebody drunkenly butchers so many basic aspects of the English language, correcting an often misspelled loanword isn't going to help much. No offense, Tasoli. :) Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give it a try but it sounds like I'll be skimming in no time. I've been reading original novels lately, so I'm losing patience with these super slow stories.

Ah yeah, that was a rec that I threw out a while ago (huh, a year to the day) after reading it in one go... I went back to re-read the story a month or two ago, not really remembering it, but finding it in my thread history and needing something to read on the bus.

Sufficient to say, it WAS the whiskey... I lost patience with it soon enough, and really couldn't remember why i found it so entertaining in the first place. Maybe the decent parts are further in, I don't know... I couldn't be bothered to wade through the crap to find whatever I saw in it.

Or you know, actually debate and discuss and type in an actual viewpoint instead of shitposting. And actually demonstrate what is unusually psychopathic. Nobody has done this, because frankly, its bullshit.
It demonstrates nothing save your own inability to present your counterargument
    Never have
Except you aren't discussing. You aren't presenting a viewpoint or even explaining a disagreement
You have done nothing but shit post and spam in response to me, and then defended your right to shitpost.
What the shit. What in the flying fucking shit. It's Voldemort thinking to himself, in the manner that, you know, people actually think. Be thankful for complete coherent sentences instead of vague feelings and utterly random shit like ear worms. The narrative is flowing just fine, you see Voldemort's thought process, how he is going down a list of things as they occur to him and then deciding upon a course of action based on those thoughts. "I can't follow the story because someone writes a thought process" is no comment on the author, but on you.

    I'm sorry, what?

You rec a fic on the almost recommended thread for people to read, and then when they read and dislike it you respond with incredulous condescension. As if their opinions are so utterly and completely wrong that they insult your obviously superior taste.

You call it bullshit, you call them fucking idiots and their opinions "blathering". Then you call them out on not presenting viewpoints and discussion, while at the same time calling them trolls for providing quotes. You do realise how the truly magical concept of evidence works, no?

I love your complete lack of awareness in accusing people of shitposting when these are a few of your completely legit responses to people.

TL;DR Your rec sucks and so do you.

It just caught my eye, since he'd gone through all the effort to have the accênt there I thought I might as well take the time to correct him. Blame my over-zealous language teachers from yesteryear.

I skimmed some chapters in the middle and here's what went down:

    - Harry blasts Dumbledore with rage magic, snaps the elder wand in his rage and goes to beat Dumbledore with his fists. (In a rage.) Elder wand's power transfers to Voldemort's wand.

They reach a ceasefire and, after an infodump, Harry takes baby Fawkes and gives him to Voldemort, who just decapitated him. Dumbledore's weak "Fawkes is a sentient being" goes ignored. I didn't see a word about Fawkes after this.

    - Ginny is killed by slytherins and resurrected by Voldemort's new Master of Death powers. Snape sneers and is Evil while he and Dumbledore attempt a cover-up. Twist: Arthur Weasley overheard everything from under the invisibility cloak and AK's Snape. He then walks out to turn himself in for a life in prison instead of, I don't know, calling the aurors and raising his kids?

    - Tonks gets head from 12yo Voldemort in a broom closet. Voldemort buys her a house in Hogsmeade. Tonks marries 12-13yo Voldemort. (Did I miss a timeskip??) They then go to meet Andy and Ted Tonks where Voldemort scolds them for bad parenting right before they meekly "bless their marriage".

    Socio/psychopathy doesn't seem far-off to me, really.

So when you write it, you are presenting a viewpoint or explaining a disagreement.

When I quote it back to you, its shit post and spam.

On one hand I'm glad to see that you *can* recognise how little your own words are worth. On the other, I'm pleased to throw one more quote of yours back in your face:

"Pretend like you aren't full of shit".

Knoq, you're vomiting all over the site. Time to pass out in the bathtub and wait a day for your head to clear.

Double post to bring us back on topic.

I came across this fic in a FF.Net trawl:

    https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10525216/1/The-Road-Not-Taken

Anyone know if it's worth a read? It looks like it's supposed to be smart Harry, which I generally like, it's complete and it has a sequel.
