I laughed (and by laughed I meant despaired) at the part where Naruto mocked Black Zetsu's love for his mother (or creator, if you like), and then threw him into the Chibaku.

It was just... hilariously tragicomically bad. With Naruto being hyped up as the all-loving chosen one, then shouldn't he empathize a bit more? Isn't it horribly against his character to callously make fun of his opponent just for having "precious people" that they want to protect (in Naruto's own fucking words)?

Kishi is so shit at consistent characterization that he probably wouldn't be able to coherently write even a fucking Mary Sue.

Edit: I'm not sure if it's because of a shitty translation. My Japanese isn't good enough, and I don't have the raws, but Mangastream's should be better. I think what turned me off Naruto's tone of contempt - and it is in characters' voices that translations most often fuck up.

That's not how I took it. As I understood it, Black Zetsu really didn't love his mother. He was completely loyal to her, yes, but he wasn't all that broken up over her death. If he had broken down in grief rather than start petulantly muttering about winning next time she was revived, I imagine Naruto would have handled things a bit differently. As it was, fuck 'im.

But yeah, really don't like the inclusion of Kaguya in the finale. It would have been so much better to end things on Obito, or even Madara. As it is, Kaguya's battle was the shortest and with the least amount of build up, and I just don't care. Naruto and co have spent so long in pursuit of other things that I don't feel as if this comes close to being as satisfying as a Fourth Great Shinobi War with just the five hidden villages, or a one on one clash with Naruto and Sasuke, or anything!

Bluh. This epilogue better be long enough to make me forget Kaguya.

 

I saw Sasuke's rinnegan, but Naruto was no longer in super sage mode. I wonder if Kakashi and Naruto have lost their power now that Kaguya has been defeated?

 

That would be a cop out and a half.

Pretty much. When it was revealed that Kaguya had the Byakugan and that the Sage had a brother it was obvious who the ancestor of the Hyuuga clan was.

 

So...who's going to end up Hokage?

 

Probably Kakashi, then Naruto.

 

I can see that happening.

But you know what really grinds my gears? Naruto ends up interacting with nearly every damn character who's offed, EXCEPT his mentor. It's a bit sad that Jiraiya's just about Kishi's only consistent characterization, him being the only guy who lived his life with no regrets and went out and stayed out. Pity.

I'd like to see that old pervert one more time.

 

Hm? Jiraiya had plenty of regrets. It was kinda emphasized in his death scene.

 

If Jiraiya remains consistent . Then he will remain consistently dead.

 

People love Jiraiya too much to dishonor his memory like that. All the scenes I've read that were ever truly emotionally powerful were with him.

If they resurrect him like they did with the others, he will be diminished.

I truly wish that Kishimoto put that level of research into creating this series, but was either not skilled enough to produce a story of quality, or his editorial staff simply destroyed whatever quality he managed to put forth.

I refuse to give him that level of credit. However, while I'm too lazy to look up the original creator of the linked images, they certainly deserve whatever kudos they can manage to find, especially considering the effort it must have taken to ignore that the majority of Kishi's characters are barely able to exist with their current amount of... backstory? I'm unable to think of a word or phrase to describe LS
