Current top comment is the funny part - the above is more awesome than funny (IMO): Dear God I'd hate to be a shift manager after report cards come out. "Yo, boss-man! I got 3 C's. Where my $20 at?"

That's great. Not sure why anyone would give them shit for it. Heaps of HSers work at McDonalds. And that's essentially +3 hours/paycheck per B. That's great.

It's a great initiative, yeah, I agree. I'm assuming Wed through Tues is just the way their scheduling works? Maybe?

I think it is a means to cut down on overtime. If you work for seven consecutive days in a work week, you are entitled to time-and-a-half for the first eight hours worked on the seventh day, and double-time for hours above that. That applies even if you work less than 40 hours a week/8 hours a day.

But if your work week is Wednesday to Tuesday and you work for seven days straight Sunday to Saturday, those days are split across two work weeks and thus you don't get that instant overtime. Give the employee a day off, repeat.

...now, why go to all that trouble? No idea. Apparently it is a thing people do though.

Part-time high schoolers aren't going to work anything approaching 40 hours.

I think it applies even if you don't work 40 hours. Besides, they have other employees there too, so it might just be standard practice.

It is easier to just have people work six days in a row, but whatever - I have seen this before though.

It says that they need to work 20 hours a week. Part time high schoolers can work that often, definitely.

The McDonald's work week is Wednesday thru Tuesday, schedule-wise.

That being said, McDonald's is really good at giving 'rewards and opportunities' that they don't actually have to give. For example, in order to qualify for the scholarship for college, you have to be a manager. To be a manager, you have to have full availability. Which means you can't schedule time off for school. Plus you have to loop the degree you are earning back around to McDonald's. Thus McDonald's gets to advertise that they help with schooling, without actually having to pay for anything.

So I've got a gut feeling that there is some qualifier on that offer that makes it difficult for employees to get anything at all. Like it's a gift card to McDonald's, or there's a limited pool, or it requires you to be at a certain pay grade already.

Source: Myself, currently paying my way through college. Not in West Texas, though.

Twenty hours a week is pretty unusual for a casual worker in high school. It's possible, sure, but rare that it would actually happen, unless the joint was understaffed for some reason.

I worked 35 hours a week at McDonald's during my senior year of high school, and I was not exceptional amongst the people I worked with. You'd be surprised how often it happens.

Heh. Just scrolling back through this thread and found this...

    Fuck all y'all!

That little skinny bitch up there didn't have the mass to write stories! Needed to bulk up, cultivate dat mass. And here I am not a handful of months ago, showing a lady friend the size of my impressive novel:

Note the midstrength, light beer cradled in my arm - don't wanna get fat. And yeah, my shirt does say 'writer'. People need to know.

Edit: I will grant that my hairline has receded somewhat...

Get back to me when you lose another inch of hair. We can swap fond stories about Rogaine and the hair-related activities we can no longer participate in.

Any respect or goodwill I once felt towards you just evaporated, sir.

Light beer? What the hell is the matter with you?

On an evolutionary scale of pond scum to human being, light beer drinkers exist somewhere between bloodsucking parasite and farm animal.

Now I need to drink some Scotch to forget I ever saw this.
