Not too enthused about Gai; I feel like the YOUTH would feel gimmicky after a while. Would much prefer the Sannin.

I'll throw Uchiha Itachi and Obito to the gauntlet. Uchiha Itachi would allow going through the aftermath of Kyuubi and a chance to change the outcome of Uchiha Massacre. Not to mention the wide range of options Quest!Itachi would have available. Jounin Sensei by the age of 20, why not?

As for Obito: being taught by the future Yondaime, going through a Shinobi World War and utterly derailing canon - what's not to like?

 

Obito might be cool. I wanted to suggest Itachi, but at the same time I'm not sure how to derail the Massacre. He was pretty much backed into a corner between Danzo and Madara.

 

I have a moment before I need to run more errands:

My top three in o particular order: Kakashi, Jiraiya or Itachi would be boss, as we discussed, Roarian.

Other potential nominees: Danzo, Shisui, Haku or Zabuza, Asuma, Yahiko, Sakumo

 

I vote for Kakashi.

 

If you guys want an Uchiha, I would probably go with Shisui. He seemed pretty badass before he donated eyes left and right and danced alongside Danzo's tune. Just do your own thing with him.

Mikoto could also be a choice a la One Small Kindness where we could play our part in the Uchiha coup, one way or another.

Kushina would be awesome, so, second that.

For our quests, if we decide to go near canon timeline, can we just pretend Madara, obito and all are dead?

 

I was just thinking about this and how the bridge could play out. I second Zabuza, his quest to overthrow the Mizukage and maybe his youth. With or without Haku!

 

I want to see an Itachi quest, also as for Gai, while a great side character, I don't think he would be a great main character.

 

I would be interested in playing Hyugga Neji. I feel the Byakugan is a really cool ability, and Kishi fucked it over with his writing and sheer lack of consistency (although to be fair, that wasn't limited to just this). The quality of Roarian's writing would easily fill the void and make it incredibly interesting. You also have the interesting dynamics of main/lesser branch, and his father and mother shenanigans.

 

Problem with a Neji quest is that it is almost sure the questers will try to make him befriend Hinata. It kinds of kills the tension when you already know that.

If it is well done and you actually have to consider which side of the coup you should help then an Itachi quest might be interesting. Or an Orochimaru quest in which we partake in part of his madness (trying to hide his experiments from the village). If people are queasy about that he could try to get approval and volunteers for them.

 

Yeah, Orochimaru has the interesting notion of keeping him IC but not going about things like a retard. A Good Day for Nina Science comes to mind, as does the characterization from When Silence Becomes Sin.

Danzo Quest would be similarly interesting, especially if you set it early enough.

 

I wouldn't mind playing as an Uzumaki. A proper Uzumaki.

I'll throw in Kushina and Mito into the ring.

And for the hell of it I'll add Minato Namikaze. Because he seems like a pimp.

 

I think Orochimaru with an Academy beginning would probably be best.

Or Shisui. We know his fighting style now, and we was definitely awesome.

 

I think a young Hiruzen Sarutobi would be interesting, sometime while he is still a student of the Second Hokage but before he is named the Third, from there you could go anywhere.

 

A lot of these ninjas are simply good at everything. It would probably end up as "train, train, train" unless we throw dangers at them. I guess that if it is high passed enough it could be about prioritizing what things to learn rather than mastering all (even if that is probably the end goal)

 

That is silly. Every ninja will end up "train, train, train" unless you intend to die. Obviously none of them became good at everything all at once.

For instance, starting as one of the Sannin...we aren't beginning as an S-class monster, and they didn't get there in a day. Orochimaru out of the academy would have gotten stomped by any decent chuunin regardless of the fact that he has enormous potential. The fact that we will be growing doesn't mean things would be easy - it took the entire Second War for the Sannin to grow into their reputation, and even then they weren't on top of the world.

Same for Kushina, Minato, Kakshshi...whoever.

 

Anyone think a missing nin or kiri quest would be interesting.

 

What about Yamato/Tenzō? He has a pretty interesting childhood.

 

Kabuto would be an interesting choice.

 

Should we list the characters we aren't considering playing as? ^^

We could also form a list, give everyone a number and use randomnumbergenerator to determine someone for us, although I guess Orochimaru seems to have the most support.
