I can recommend The Good Wife if you like courtroom drama. Plus family drama. Plus political drama. Alicia Florrick (the main character) is married to the state's attorney for Cook County. When her husband is involved in a sex and corruption scandal and sentenced to prison she has to go back to working as a litigator.

Great thread, read about a few shows I didn't know.

If you haven't seen the Blacklist yet, do it, it's on Netflix now.

Recommending the shit out of The Fall.

It's a crime drama set in Northern Ireland. It starts with the premise that Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson [Gillian Anderson] arrives in Belfast to review a murder case that the local police have been unable to solve. It innovates in some ways by presenting the point of view of the killer, as well as the police.

Features a lot of my favorite things; gritty and realistic dialogue, police corruption, murder, dark & bleak atmosphere [hugely helped by the location] and acting of top quality.

Five 60-minute episodes available, with six more on the way.

Giving it a go based on this. Needed something after the shitty end to The Killing.

Legends is surprisingly good. It starts out with a couple generic 'police/FBI procedural with a gimmick' episodes, coasting along on Sean Bean's talent, but it's picked up the pace recently. The villains are refreshingly competent.

    Yeah, Legends is really good.

Id also recommend the new show Scorpion - generic idea of a task force being made, but this is about a team of geniuses and actually pretty decent.

You liked it? I shut it off right as they drove the car underneath the low-flying airplane in order to attach a flipping fiber cable mid-flight (and yes, something that ridiculous actually happened).

That was just the tip of the 'awful' iceberg though. Right off the bat they were pounding the audience in the face with their poorly-researched notion that having a genius level IQ also probably means that you have Asperger's. The show's writers (who fyi had little to zero knowledge of how computers actually work), clearly heard that there was a moderate correlation between superior intellect and social dysfunction, then sat down and said to each other excitedly, "oooooo let's write an entire show about that."

When the main dude said ever so smugly, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your son's a genius," I had to double facepalm.... because one facepalm just wasn't enough.

Suspended my disbelief a few times, but its no worse than NCIS and stuff like that has gotten over the years. There's no reason a plane would be carrying the ground based software realistically, and why that was the only logical way to send the data is also unrealistic.

Yeah, I noticed that, but a lot of shows seem to do that, so wasnt overly concerned.

Like I said though, I liked it more than I have most shows in a while.

Carnivàle this show is amazing set in the United States during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl, if you like mystical and occult and want something more subtle and ambitious than supernatural this show is for you.I also recommend reading about mythology in this show
Every Prophet In His House: Religion and Carnivale

edit:ups my bad Quick Ben already recommend this show
so I second his original recommendation

Carnival always felt too heavy for me. No idea why. It has a fascinating subject but could never handle more than a few episodes.

I always dislike the first and second episode of BBT and then it gets better so I'm waiting for it.

    Go watch Safety Not Guaranteed.

It's adorable and has time travel and it's the perfect I-want-to-feel-fluffy movie when you're having a bad day.

    :D Awesome!

Would you happen to know of anything similar, in terms of emotion rather than plot? I could definitely use more movies like it. I don't really have any other movie to compare it to, as I tend to watch mostly horror movies.

I've been combing the thread and nothing's jumped out at me.

Would a mod mind changing the title of this thread to 'Recommendation' instead of 'Reccomendation'? I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you!

I also remembered another movie, The Host. One of my top favorites.

I'll leave it to good ol' chair-debating Clint to express how I felt when I thought you were talking about the Stephanie Meyer bowel movement that was swallowed by Hollywood and regurgitated as film.
