What's that fic where Harry goes dark, Ginny becomes a necromancer and somehow manages to kill the poltergeist Peeves and Harry gets the support of many discriminated magic races (e.g. the veela).

Edit: I found it myself, it's "Harry's Madness" by SilverLocke980.

    -Harems, usually multichapter PWPs
-Pure fluff. Sadly these are the better stories in the fandom.
    -Slash
-“fuck muggles, Demigods are the shit” despite canon evidence contrary to that. Usually features demigods at highschool, where ever single person wants to fuck the protag girl/guy. Also usually highschool drama. Stus ans Sues galore.
-and of course, no-Gods!AU, usually combined with the above
    -Prank wars
-Angst stuff, now popular as ever because of percabeth’s trip to tartarus. Used to be dominated by betrayal stories which made zero sense.
-Next Gen! Demigods we don’t care about.

Basically, PJO suffers from the same basic problems of the HP fandom except they don’t have as many good writers making quality work, since fandom is smaller. Don’t expect substance in their stories and most are guilty pleasure reads.

Haven't bothered rereading that but if it's the fic I remember it fits the bill.

Trying to find a specific fic I read a while back:

    - Massive AU
    - Wizarding world is basically a traditional medieval fantasy kingdom, almost completely seprate from the Muggle world
    - There is a wizard King
    - Neville is the King's son and Harry befriends him
    - Harry and Hermione are taken into the wizarding world by McGonagall via carriage and then sail to Hogwarts.
    - Harry doesn't have much money
    - Hogwarts magic is weird
    - Hermione wank

I think that's enough information to identify it.

That story looked like it would become interesting, and then died long before it did.

You're forgetting that the Harry Potter universe has far wider influence and popularity, so the fandom is many times larger and receives contribution from a greater and more diverse number of individuals. Finding good stories is in the case of virtually all fandoms a matter of trawling through utterly crap ones to find the few existing gems. So it's pretty intuitive that there'd be more good HP stories.

All that is without taking into account that Harry Potter is more popular among non-youth readers, some of whom also contribute to the fanfiction community. Comparing my writing today to my writing 4 years ago makes that a pretty decisive factor in my eyes.

tl;dr: Yeah, it's really that bad.

    Percy Jackson/Harry Potter crossovers?

    1. Slash. Oh, the slash! Usually with Percy and Nico.
    2. Fem!Harrys that are more OCs/SIs than actual female Harrys.
    3. "Demigods go to Hogwarts". Enough said.
    4. "Hi, I'm Electra Blah-blah Black-Potter, the sister of Harry!" Yeah.
    5. "Hi, I'm a god that likes the ladies, but I'm inexplicably gay for Harry in this story!"
    6. Harry Potter is the son of Zeus, Poseidon, or --most commonly-- Hades. Or all three, somehow.

    Seeing a general trend?

You know, fully realizing how messed up HP/Percy Jackson Crossovers are makes me consider actually writing a little HP/Percy Jackson Crossover Bunny I came up with. It has no FemHarry, no Slash, no Dumbledore/Weasley Bashing, actually explores and talks about Harry being a son of Zeus, gives a legitimate reason why Harry (and only Harry) would attend Hogwarts, pretty much reduces Magical America to irrelevant, and even deconstructs the annoyingly-common cliche of "Pureblooded Pagans Good, Muggle non-Pagans Bad" by having Purebloods like the Malfoys mock and spite the very idea of the Pantheon while people like the Weasleys are despised because they believe in the Gods.

Sounds about right, according to JKR, at least, the whole pureblood horseshit is a rather new thing.

The "Big Three" thing is kind of overdone, as a whole.

Some of the lesser-used gods/goddesses are used quite a bit, such as Artemis, Hecate, Eris, and Hestia, but they're almost exclusively Fem-Harrys/SIs/OCs.

If you read a bit into Celtic mythology, you could have Harry as one of the sons of the Celtic pantheon -- plot happens, etcetera.

More unknown goddesses/gods are better: Artemis could work too, but you'd really have to put a lot of character interaction and emotion into it.

There was a small discussion on SpaceBattles about this thing (spearheaded by me, recently), complete with a few idea-snippets.

I even wrote a few poor-quality snippets myself, as I was bored and liked the concept.

    http://forums.spacebattles.com/thre...s-thread-ninth-times-the-charm.305865/page-74

Relevant discussion goes on for about 20 pages after 74, or just read up to the latest post in that thread to remain current, I guess.

Off the top of my head, here are some recs:

For Want of a Family is one where he's the son of Hestia (long story short; Hestia is Harry's second mother, being in love with Lily, and aiding her and James' conception of him).

Unfortunately, the characterization of Harry in it is god-damn awful -- he goes from canon-Harry (after a typical "Weasley bashing" bit) to an OC with Harry's face in one chapter.

Glorious Chaos is another one, with Harry being the son of Eris. It has its problems, but it's pretty good compared to most out there.

There's a series where Harry's the son of Hera (pretty much an OC-Harry, but the OC keeps much of Harry in him, if that makes sense).

The first in the above series is called, "The Order of the Phoenix Kidnaps Annabeth Chase".

The grammar is pretty bad, but it's still an average read if you can stomach it.

Check the author's profile for the sequels.

There was a really, really good one by Vin Credible on FFn, where Harry is the son of Artemis -- unfortunately, it's been abandoned for a few years.

The guy who wrote Percy Jackson is working on a Norse-themed series set in the same world as it and the Kane Chronicles, so there are other gods in the setting other than just the Greco-Romano ones.

The Celtic pantheon, or an approximation of them, would easily fit into the setting: especially if they're seen as being the "eccentric Slytherins" (without the negative connotations of Slytherin, mind) by the other gods/pantheons.

That last one was actually pretty good. A shame it's been left abandoned, though. It was getting promising.

I've never read PJO but I am curious do they ever touch on the massive incest found in Greek mythology?

    Hi.

Looking for a link to the story: The Road to Freedom by Gatonio

The first chapter is put up here on DLP.

The link to the first chapter is here: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=17106

I found the fic in the third almost recommended thread put up by Socialist.

    Link for that here: https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=16830&page=26

The link to the story in the almost recommeded thread doesn't work.

Please help me find it. I rather like stories where Harry leaves England.
