First episode was every bit as ridiculous as I was hoping. Honestly, it's hilarious - I don't think I ever really stopped laughing. Mostly in an "Oh my god, this is so terrible" sense, but still. We'll see if it holds up, but so far I'm going to put it in the "So bad it's good" category.

I hate it when animes have extra scenes that come after the outro. I completely missed the one in Psycho Pass 2 until a friend of mine told me about it.

These days its pretty common to do post ED scenes. Always, always check.

If a good subber does it (ie, not HorribleSubs), they use chapter indexes and its a lot easier to notice/skip to.

Ok, so we're three episodes in and I haven't dropped anything yet. I've also added several more to my watch list. This season is shaping up to be pretty good considering how few shows actually looked interesting initially.

New shows I started out watching:

F/SN: UBW - This one has its own thread, so I won't talk about it too much. Short version: animation is gorgeous, fights are gorgeous. Me likey.

Log Horizon S2 - Normally I wouldn't mention a second season, but Log Horizon changed studios for S2 and is now being done by DEEN (of F/SN infamy) so I felt it should be addressed. Despite that, it still has the same general feel as it did before, though some of the character designs... This season has the gang from S1 split up, with Shiroe and Naotsugu tackling a dungeon while the rest of Log Horizon holds down the fort in Akihabara. We've seen glimmers of romance, some full-raid party dungeon combat, a bunch of new characters (and some old ones too). More or less the same solid show it was for S1. Which is a good thing. I do wish they would split the attention between groups a bit more though - the first three episodes have been focused 90% on Shiroe and Naotsugu's group, with just glimpses of Akatsuki and everyone else back home.

Trinity Seven - Solid so far. It's following the manga pretty well, though with the self-awareness and 4th-wall-breaking turned down a notch. Arata makes a great harem protag with his shameless acceptance of his pervertedness (though he's less OTT than Issei of DxD, which is a good thing IMO). The fact that he's got just about the greatest power a harem MC could wish for doesn't hurt either.

Ore, Twintail Ni Narimasu - As I said before, this show is fucking ridiculous. It makes fun of all the really corny monster-of-the-week shows like Super Sentai/Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, magical girls, as well as itself. It's also got a gender-bent MC, tons of sex jokes, and ridiculously stupid monsters - they once spent an entire episode playing a giant game of Jenga to decide who would be the next to face MC, only for the winner to be defeated in 5 seconds. There's no way that it should be any good, but somehow it all combines to be possibly the funniest show I've ever watched.

    I've also picked up:

Grisaia no Kaijitsu - another harem show with an MC who gives zero fucks. Mostly watching this for the characters - there's quite a bit of mystery surrounding them and it's keeping me intrigued.

Akasuki no Yona - a bit different from what I normally watch. I'd peg it as an epic historical(?) romance, but there's also going to be some battles. Based on a shoujo manga, so female MC (which is refreshing), but not terribly fluffy. MC is a bit of a wimp right now, but it's kind of understandable given the circumstances. Really pretty scenery and animation, and the OP is gorgeous. Kind of a Chinese/Korean theme too, which I haven't really seen much of before.

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis - a show based on a shitty mobile trading card game has no right to be as good as this. Amazing animation (seriously, some of the best I've ever seen), entertaining characters, and an interesting story. If you like medieval/fantasy shenanigans, you should watch this.

Amagi Brilliant Park - so we have Kanie, Sento Izuzu, and Princess Latifa. Oh, and Kanie is a total narcissist. There is no way that's not intentional. Made by KyoAni, so it's really pretty. Also possibly the most lewd KyoAni show ever made (not that that's saying much) - it's been three episodes and we've had a kiss, partial nudity, and skimpy swimsuits. It's far from amazing, but it is entertaining and there's a little aura of mystery. And did I mention that it's really pretty?

My favorite anime this season is, kind of surprisingly, one that hasn't been mentioned yet ITT- Shirobako.

It's pretty much Bakuman for anime. The animation is fast and hectic, and it's kind of hard to follow at times, but I never feel that it is inappropriately hectic because I have to keep pace with the characters because damn it! There's a fucking deadline to meet so move your goddamn ass!

It kind of gives off that kind of feeling, you know?

It also feels like it's deliberately holding back from actually being, like, gratifying. There's a lot of fast-paced buildup and the payoffs are immediately undercut by more work before the characters successes can really sink in, either for me or the characters.

Anyways, it really resonates with me as someone who's gradually receiving more and more work that I'm not quite sure I'm ready for.

Go check out Animation Runner Kuromi. Shirobako and it have basically the same premise.

Outside of the new Fate thing and Psycho Pass 2: Let's See How Dumb It Gets, I've been keeping up on Parasyte. That show is solid so far. Interesting premise, good characters, and I think it has the most actual animation going on of the three shows I'm watching, which is a treat.

It's good. It shouldn't be good. Came out of nowhere tbh.

I just found out that Akame ga Kill will have an anime-original ending after 24 episodes. Not sure how I feel about that - they're skipping ~14 chapters ahead next episode and cut out a bunch of really good stuff.

Otherwise pretty nice, but the music is a bit too... spanish? And I happen to dislike the protagonist. Both personality and looks annoy me.

The music really reminds me of spaghetti westerns. Fitting, considering the protag.

WHAT?! That's a load of bullshit! The story is what makes Akame ga Kill so great, why in the world would you fuck with the thing that makes everything work?

To make a half-assed commercial for the comic?

My comparison with Akame ga Kill being like older anime really does work. Anime adaptions always ended with some shitty, half arsed ending and you were forced to go read the manga if you wanted the real story.

Suppose it does work though. A lot of people DO read the manga after.

My guess is that it isn't selling well enough to justify another season (and there's not enough material left for one anyways), so rather than leaving it open-ended and telling everyone to go read the manga, they're giving it closure. On the one hand, I like that because it's really irritating when stories are left unfinished, but on the other, like you said, they're fucking with the story to do so. It's kind of a lose-lose situation - we'll see what they do with it. Honestly, as enjoyable as the manga is, they definitely started adapting it to early.

Akame ga Kill volume 1 sold 3,531 copies. That's barely above the "break even" point, and it's only downhill from here.

Combined. 776 DVDs and 2,378 BDs. You can check the data yourself here, as well as every other series post 2000.

Nice informations and puts some things into a perspective. I was aware that Monogatari series sells well, but not that it's doing that much better compared to other anime.

At the same time all these sales are rather low. I would expect a little more on average from most series.

They tend to be really, really expensive. Fate/Zero, for example was $300 for the box set. That's over $10 per episode, which is kinda crazy IMO.
