Only peripherally. She is intimately involved in the plot, but in a way that is completely different to any other fic. Mostly because Amy herself isn't really involved.

I would suggest reading it because it's a good story with a nice mix of action and drama, neither of which are too overboard. Also, while it is hinting at the super best friends route, there's enough conflict within the group to keep it interesting.

Nah, I only read up to the second Endbringer attack before I called it quits. It's really a shittily paced and edited story. On that note I also only read half of Naruto before I couldn't bear the stupidity any more.

I never made it very far into Naruto either, but then I never enjoyed it half as much as Worm.

I'm sure it's been linked before, but this thread has a lot of fics. I've never been as critical of fics as I've found DLP to be (unless they're complete garbage), so it's a bit of a treasure trove of mostly unfinished fics.

And I was only introduced to Worm about 3 weeks ago. I got through half in a week before I got kind of busy and kind of lazy to finish it. Hence, many fics I've yet to read.

I'm reasonably certain that thread is the primary repository that this thread refers to when discussing Worm fics. Just sayin'.

I've read through pretty much that entire thread, and there's perhaps 5 fics that I will actively follow. I'm at the point where I want to start my own fic and do some proper plot, but I can't decide what I actually want to write about.

I actually hate reading the comments on spacebattles. The overly politcally correct rules of the website (no smut etc), and the way some users voraciously flock to defend it in the weirdest way, while constantly telling people to stop being creepy just makes me think they're all looking through the window trying to understand basic rules of society.

The absolute obsession they have with rape is fucking weird too.

So keep on bringing em here please :p

I used to defend SB/V when it comes to the Worm fandom and I still will I suppose, it's the only hub. But I can't deny that I've gotten jaded with the whole thing. I almost pulled out completely and went back to Pact. Very little in the way of prompts or useful discussion (unless we go back to munchkining or hate-boners for certain characters)

I feel like the fandom is in the sort of place that DLP was with HP a few years ago: there are a bunch of cliches and memes out there that just bug me whenever I have to read them (the difference is that HP is so big that it had the steam to push through it). I'm glad that we have a site this dedicated to the fandom but it also allows their...idiosyncrasies to spread.

Someone should do a Potter-law equivalent but no one would really give a shit.

The main trend I find with Worm fics is that 95% of them are just starting an idea and then they go nowhere.

The ones that do go somewhere end up with absolutely no conflict because they make the enemies completely retarded, Taylor too powerful or a combo of the two. Most importantly, I feel like Taylor is never quite right in any of them. She always feels like an OC.

As someone said before, I'm tempted to just start writing my own stuff that are essentially just mini-arcs.

I'm planning on it actually. Well, it's funny (or not for some people), but there are a bunch of fics that I've started, some of them here on DLP, and yet I want to start writing in a new fandom. But when you get plot bunnies, you gotta do what you gotta do.

The problem for me is that I want to get beyond just writing snippets. My google drive is filled with hundreds of them, and I just want to write something with some depth to it. I just got so many ideas I'm not sure where to start.

So I powered through Worm in about two weeks. I had some issues, some quibbles, some complaints, but then again... I read it in two weeks. So overall, I was pretty thrilled with it. The worldbuilding sounded like it would really lend itself well to fanfiction, and I read this thread to find some, and...

Three things I'm kind of astounded aren't out there, or if they are, someone please point me in the right direction:

    1. A retelling of the Speck arc from other characters' POV. Seriously, how has this not been done? Taylor's degenerating mind and perceptions practically beg for it. To feel the full impact of Khepri through the lens of someone on the edge the maelstrom would be awesome. A couple different POVs, too. Dragon, Contessa, Tattletale, and then someone from the Chicago Wards. People who know Taylor as Taylor, Skitter, or Weaver, really mix it up. Kind of a Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fiji thing.

    2. Any kind of competent Worm/Harry Potter crossover. Again, pretty shocked this hasn't been done. Don't you want to see how Harry's magic stands up to powers? In some ways, he'd be really, really vulnerable, but he'd also have a lot of flexibility. Don't you want to see how Harry would react when he finds out there's a hero named Myrddin?

    3. Anything featuring Glaistig Uaine. I thought she was a brilliant character, and her conversation with Taylor in Extinction 27-4 is one of the more beautifully written passages of the series. And her epilogue is really, really, really interesting. Her conversation with Bonesaw and Nilbog at the very end...

Tell me that's not an engraved invitation to do a post-canon reverse-series-motto Glaistig Uaine/Ciara and Bonesaw/Riley dynamic duo "doing the right things for the wrong reasons."

The problem is that once you make a Fear and Loathing crossover there's nowhere left to go in a fandom.

Glaistig Uaine is a good character...but partly because she serves her purpose. She's good for what she does. Same probably goes for Eidolon and Jack and however many others. Turn them into the protagonist and...things change.

A good writer can make anything work and GU isn't as bad as some (she at least has some internal struggle to feed off) but working well as a supporting character=/= working well as the main character.

I really wouldn't mind reading about Valkyrie/Glastig Uaine/Ciara or Riley. I mean, both have the whole redemption thing going for them. Would love to read about how they try to survive in post-Worm Bet. Hell, as I've said before, I'd love to read about *any* post-Worm Bet fics. Doesn't even need Taylor in it. There's such an interesting setting for character development, interactions and all that. Doesn't even need to be some big epic plot.

Another thing I'd love to read is the opposite of a typical Worm crossover - instead of Taylor gaining the powers of some other universe's character, how about a fic about Taylor waking up in another universe other than Aleph post-Worm (you'd probably keep her Skitter/Weaver powers intact though)?

I really just want to read a Worm/Pact story with Taylor in Pactverse post epilogue. Not even necessarily interacting with Blake and co.

Though if she were to talk to them there'd still be the problem of getting her from Brockton Bay to Canada- maybe through Isadora? Like, Isadora knows Taylor's alt!mom due to college professoriness. I dunno. I'm trying and failing to come up with a way for her to interact with the Pact cast that isn't moronic. It'd probably be better for her to just do her own thing.

I take back what I said earlier about Atonement. The Super Best Friends plot has taken a flying leap out the window.

Definitely my favourite on going Worm fic at this point.

EDIT: Ugh, why do I put myself through the comments on SB? Why?

Yeah, Atonement is just getting better and better.
I love the whole Birdcage arc, and Teacher being used is great. Trevor, Madison's brother, is actually developing into a decently nuanced character with ok development. Color me surprised.

What is not getting better is Amelia. That has become a Super Best Friends story, where the godlike main characters are deeply affected by Emma because she was mean and they have to go back to school because of Child Protective Services. That last one sounds sort of interesting when I type it, but trust me, it's not.
