Read Kingdom, if you want a cool story taking place in the Warring States era in china, with the protag trying to rise to the position of a Great General, while making friends, allies and ultimately a unit. Gives nice insight into war through the eyes of both, infantry and brass. It's around 400 chapters and not yet finished.

Akame ga kill for a story where you follow a troop of assassins with interesting weapons and a decent enough story and character interaction. It does have one of the more interesting villain dynamics. Not terribly original, of course but the villain more than makes up for it by sheer charisma despite being a horrible person. Around 50 chapters, also unfinished.

Baby Steps if you want a sports manga that is excellent while following an unconventional protagonist without any sort of bullshit over the topness that usually is in sports manga. Around 240, unfinished.

Ranma 1/2 is an old classic, with tons of fun, interesting characters, awesome fights and its finished. Lots of fanfiction for it as well, being one of the fandoms that were active since the 90s.

I third The Gamer. I'll toss in Magi as well. Magi is probably in my top 3 manga. Magi starts off as a lighthearted adventure about friendship and magic but things quickly escalate from there and it just gets more and more amazing.

 

Its pretty damn cool, and dont get too put off by the early chapter art style. It gets better.

I think what pissed me off the most about the series was how absolutely nothing was resolved. For all the hooplah about peace nothing has changed. The shinobi system remains in place unchanged from the looks of it. So kids can go into the battlefield fighting wars and getting themselves killed.
And don't even get me started on the Naruto/Hinata and Sasuke/Sakura resolution. It was almost as if Kishimoto lost his motivation to write the series and couldn't wait to be over with it hence of all the bullshit ways to resolve a story.

 

Like Lamora said, the salt is fucking real.

I haven't been thinking about Naruto/Kaguya so much, but I have been contemplating writing a oneshot and/or a series of little snippets about Kaguya and the man she has her kids with. Basically the Gallant Jiraiya 2.0 and his quest for love, because your charisma has got to be off every chart there ever was if you want to woo the sexy alien goddess that rules your world with an iron fist.

Gotta say its pretty hilarious the one scene where Naruto has some random no-name chick hanging all onto his arm seemingly in a romantic fashion while he's talking with Sakura and Hinata looking on in the distance all torn up inside...like what the fuck?

Not sure how well-known this is but the fourth databook was released about a month ago. Here's a mostly up-to-date list of the current translations.

FYI, there are no stats in this one for obvious reasons. Instead we have a elemental chart which "indicates the ninja's ability to handle chakra nature transformation. There are seven chakra nature transformations: Fire, Wind, Water, Earth, Lightning, Yin and Yang." And it includes characteristics the ninja might have e.g. Hiden, Kuchiyose, Jinchuuriki, Senjutsu, Kekkei Genkai, Kekkei Tota and Kekkei Mora.

 

It's mostly full of shit, it gives everyone elements they never even alluded to knowing, is inconsistent, and tells us stuff we already knew, while hardly telling us anything we didn't know.

 

Since the manga is over and I enjoyed Taure's Harry Potter thread, what do you guys think of a "How would you tweak canon?"-discussion here? A new thread shouldn't be necessary.

I will refrain from starting in case the idea gets shot down.

 

Give Naruto a water affinity... no, but seriously, it's hard to keep it in a smiliar format than the HP canon thread, as I'd probably cut off everything coming after Madara. Maybe even before that, after Pein. But that's not tweaking anymore, is it?

 

To be honest, I disregard everything after Pein as a matter of principle.

 

It really does seem like Pain = Frieza for the series. Should have ended there.

I'd just have made Naruto smart. I can't stand retard protagonists.
