I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical, but found these fairly solidly enjoyable. Dresden isn't OOC, and there is enough tension currently between the different mentalities and magic of the two series that I found it quite enjoyable. No major spelling or world building errors that detract from enjoyment, but until it has a bit clearer display of what the overarching plot line is going to be, I'm hesitant to give this anything higher than a 4/5. Still recommended, but currently missing that OMGWTFBBQ element to it that defines a truly amazing story.

I enjoyed the first one, feel the second one needs a few more chapters before it should be up for review, so the one shot 4/5, second one not rated yet.

I rather enjoyed it, but I concur that the second story needs more chapters before I can judge it. Eagerly looking forward to more.

The POV Dresden scenes were much better written and a lot more interesting that the POV Jupiter scenes.

The Jupiter scenes boil down to: "OMFG I love my Daddy! He's a super hero and is handsome and wonderful! Wee."

But it is an interesting premise, and the plot is starting to progress. The author has to fix the Jupiter scenes before this is library worthy though.

Jupiter herself is pretty close to cannon bar changes that come from living with Dresden. The problem stems from the fact that Dresden and friends are more well crafted characters then the SM cast, at least, started as.

Makoto started off in the anime as a tall tomboy that was rough around the edges. Had no friends because of those edges and was very insecure of her height and not being seen as feminine. She also had a thing for white knights.

All that being said, the coming chapters after this big scare she's had will determine how well the fic will go.

I like Jupiter's POV scenes. Her daddy complex is cute and puts Molly's to shame.

It's also refreshing to see a non rebellious (mostly) teenager here. I also liked how, even though she woke to her senshi powers, she didn't do something stupid and trusted her father.

I think I just like father / daughter stories, so I'm already biased towards really liking this

Question though, wouldn't Rashid or anyone know if this system wide extinction occurred? Aren't there beings in the Dresden verse already 'millennia' old?

My going theory, considering Luna isn't working with anywhere near a complete memory, is that everybody else was rolling their eyes at the stupidity that was an empire falling because of one jealous woman and her pet eldrich abomination.

I liked both stories, and how this crossover was established. Also, the fact that neither magical system rapes the other one - yet - can be counted in plus.

It's well written, if IMO a little too wordy for my taste. Plus, the usage of obligatory-in-Dresden-novel parts are iritaiting (i.e. Dresden explaining Blue Beatle, Murphy, Mister, etc.) and makes me skip those parts, because I remember them from the books.

Right now, the prequel story gets 5/5, for being a well written, closed story that keeps the Dresden vibe strong throughout it entire length. Its continuation gets a tentative 4/5. It's also well written, Dresden vibe is strong, the crossover doesn't feel forced, but its final score will depend on the next chapters.

    TL;DR: good stories worth reading.

I don't mind if the author foregoes assumed knowledge as long as it's not info dumpy. It makes for a better read with a more pro feel.

Good fics, but the last chapter left me with an impression that SM side of this crossover will be presented in a very unfavorable light. Without taking into account differences between genres, one side will most likely be presented as the one being outright wrong in their actions. And for now it's Dresden telling Usagi she's a kid and should stay out of the fight while in her own setting she's right about her specialness and the need for her to continue her battle. But that's just an impression after one confrontation and it could all change as the fic continues.

    @Celestin:
That may be the way Dresden acts now, but I wouldn't be too surprised if events conspired to push back on him against this. I will be the first to admit that it would get pretty boring if it devolved into Dresden smackdown of everything in the SM!Verse, but we'll see in the next few chapters how well the author handles that fine balance.

I dunno, I think I'd prefer a Dresden smack down so we can get Jupiter in the Dresdenverse...

    Dresden's reaction is pretty normal.

I mean, to him, it's a small group of barely teenage girls going up against a world ending abomination, and the only one helping them is a talking cat.

My take on it right now is that Dresden's reaction, while wholly appropriate and in-character, is presented in such a way that it threw up a red flag for me. It "feels", for lack of a better term, like the kind of thing that's done in the standard crossover bashfics where the author has a bone to grind with one of the original source materials and the story shits all over itself trying to make that point. The rest of the story is high quality enough that I'm more than willing to wait and see how the author will play it out, what kind of ramifications come of Dresden shanghai-ing things, etc, but I do so with dampered enthusiasm.

Hopefully it's simply the limitations of the chosen perspectives that are skewing the arguments.

Silver Warden got updated. It still continues with the confrontation of ideologies between Makoto and the Senshi, in a quite interesting scene - shame that the Senshi did not throw in Makoto face the fact that she does the same with Dresden, that they do with Luna acording to her - i.e. belief whatever he tells her at face value.

The author apparently said that this will not turn into SM bash fic and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. After all Makoto is young and inexperienced.

Also, we won't have to wait couple of months for next update - and it will be a battle. I still maintain my 4/5 rating.

I wonder if he's going to have some of Dresedens enemies such as the vampires or whatever track him down to Japan.

I liked the clash as well, and ya Makoto's daddy worship is definitely a thing she needs to moderate, but in her defense she's known Dresden way longer then the other senshi have known Luna. She is the more experience when it comes to these kinds of things.

All that being said I like how the suits seem perfect for somebody with little to no talent, but starts to become far more limited in capability as ones talent in magic gets stronger.

Edit: Also the clash probably wouldn't have been so bad if Rei hadn't been there. This Makoto is almost the complete opposite of Rei when it comes to dads, since Rei kinda resents her father for not being there after her mom died. Throw in a Mokoto that absolutely trusts and looks up to her dad and Rei probably didn't like it too much.

I suppose it depends how the narrative actually treats the clash, but at the moment it just feels like Dresden (and Makoto) is taking this completely hypocritical, supercilious stance against them.

Both of them keep calling the Senshi stupid without accepting that the senshi really had no idea that there WERE other people who could help against the Dark Kingdom. From their point of view, they really were the only chance to save the world. And on that note, the Wardens hadn't actually done anything to that point, so if the Senshi hadn't stepped in, people most likely WOULD have been dead. Dresden has jumped into fights well beyond his level before, so it's completely hypocritical.

As for Rei, I don't really consider her reaction to Makoto all that unreasonable. If you've worked hard, risked your life and saved people only to have this runt come along and calls you an idiot, you'd be pretty offended too.

I hope this is something the story deals with appropriately, because if it's just Dresden stepping in to smash all of the DK, it'll be a bit boring. Makoto's daddy-complex needs to be treated as such too. Everything we've seen about her character seems to suggest she'd be just as likely to throw herself into a fight above her means regardless of what she say. I'm hoping Makoto does end up finding herself getting closer to the Senshi and wanting to join the fight, with a little bit of teen rebellion thrown in too.

Ah well, still enjoying it so far.

Does anyone else have a problem with authors spelling English names the way Japanese people say them (when writing in English)?

I get that Kanji doesn't cover a lot of 'sounds' that are in the English language (or that's what I'm told), but persisting with Bobbu kind of grates tbh.
