    Does no one hate Dumbledore?

He keeps Harry in the dark, HE CHOSE to place Harry with the Dursley's (there's no proof otherwise - and in OotP he states that HE made the decision - who gave him that right?) - he's above the law, and he has thus far (through HBP) used Harry as a pawn.

    Fuck that shit.

Following that is Harry himself. It is forgivable to be 11 and naive. It is forgivable to be 12 and naive. But when at 13 you again have your life endangered at your boarding school - some hard fucking questions should start to be asked of your minders. When your 4th year brings you unwanted attention and an invite into a tournament you shouldn't be in and a dead peer and a resurrected dark lord - naivete should have molted and some deep soul searching (and hell raising) should have started to occur.

Instead, he acts the part of a whiny little adolescent bitch in OotP (Voldemort induced tantrums or not) - and regresses even further in ineptitude in HBP.

Lastly I despise Ron. For all the reasons people have named - and mostly just out of personal preference. I'd NEVER have been friends with someone like him (nor Harry, but it's hard not to try and identify til your blue with the main character) - I'd never even tolerated someone like him. He's a bigot, he's shallow, he's not ambitious, he's dumb, he's jealous, and he thrives on the superficial superseding of others.

Those are my big three. Canon Ron and canon Dumbledore piss me off so much that I can't even stand reading a well-written AU fanfic with a likeable Ron and Dumbledore.

Canon Ginny is irrelevant to me - because until HBP she's been irrelevant.

Canon Hermione I like. Bossy, opinionated, superiority complexed - whatever. Faux-intellectual or not - those are common traits amongst people who can contribute to discourse. There's no point in communing with people who are so malleable that they don't have an opinion of their own (whether it's found in a book or not).

Regardless of being someone I'd want to be friends with (doubtful) - Hermione is still someone I'd love to shoot the shit with and probably learn some book facts and/or try and open up her myopic literary view of the world.

I dislike most of the characters everyone has stated, such as Ron, Ginny, Hermione and several others for all the same reasons, so I'll take a back seat on explaining something redundant.

My most hated character, granted not all the time, will have to be Harry.

Very few times do I see the TRUE Harry that should be shine through, when that somewhat dark, cunning and independence comes through. But those moments are so few and far between it makes me sick. Alas though, that's what you get when you try and force that type of personality into a young teenage book. (A place it definitely does not belong)

JKR obviously did not do her homework when she designed Harry's character. I've volunteered at a local (San Francisco) Trower Center (A small hang-out center for battered and orphaned youth) for a few years and none of the kids I've worked with are antyhing like Harry.

In PS you have an 11 year old boy, orphaned, abused, emotionally ridiculed and god knows what else and suddenly you thrust a large amount of money, freedom and nice people around him and he just takes it all in stride. JKR tried to paint a picture of Harry's acceptance of everything simply because he knows what it's like to be on the other end, and that's bullshit.

You put authority on a ridiculed child, they rebel.
You give a child who has never been given anything but hand-me-downs money, they spend it like it's water.
You try and make friends with an emotionally scarred (Even worse if they're orphaned) child with kindness or love, and they close off faster then anything I've ever seen.

The personality she created for Harry is for fairytales and fangirls.

I've worked with a young teenager (Ethan, a great kid in such a fucking terrible situation) for nearly 3 years, since he was 15, now 18 and trying to make it on his own. It's taken me that long just to get him to open up to me on a normal basis about even small parts of his life. You look at Harry, who has obviously been dealt much harsher circumstances, and he's supposed to just accept Hagrid's friendship off the bat? Not only Hagrid, but suddenly the Weasley's and Hermione, and any of the other kids that just suddenly come up to him? I don't think so.

Also, given Harry's natural rebellious nature that JKR so loves to tout on when it's convenient, would only be amplified a hundred times over if what he has gone through is true. I've seen children in that kind of atmosphere, and you try and tell them 'No', and either you get a middle finger, a tantrum, or a fight as your response.

The Harry she started out with should have been cold-shouldered for a long time (I could see him opening up after a couple years, but that would take significant character build up). He should have been absolutely distrusting of any and all people, especially those of authority. He would have told Umbridge, Snape and even Dumbedore at one point to go screw themselves. He should have been a shit-talker to the tenth degree. He should have been entirely independent in his own mind, a thief, a liar, a money-spending doof, and a backstabber. One, two, even three years of being in a 'warm' environment (Discounting a fucking madman trying to kill you) does not suddenly erase 11 years of abuse and neglect, especially at the age when your brain and personality are developing.

I'm not saying all kids that are in Harry's situation would be like that, although I have had the misfortune of seeing many of my Center kids end up like this and land themselves in jail, but it takes years and years of warm tutors and friendly adults to break down natural barriers kids create around themselves from these sick situations people put them in.

All JKR wanted was a tragic hero, one we would all fall over and feel sorry for, but without any of the REAL LIFE consequences that come from living like that.

(Sorry to rant but it just hits close to home with me that JKR would write such a fucking wrong perception on a child such as Harry.)

As I said, a personality geared for fairytales, dumbfucks, and fangirls.

You know who I hate? People who are too lazy to practice proper grammar and punctuation. And you like Hermione because she is bossy? WTF.

Well I did spell forgivable and superseding wrong.

And yeah, I guess it's lazy to not capitalize the start of sentences or proper nouns.

And yet, I've always likened posting in forums to a delayed conversation - one in which such things like capitalization isn't nit-picked. It's never been a place where grammatical propriety should be strictly enforced.

    But to each their own.

***Well I guess not. I just read the rules again, and such grammar issues are addressed. I will adjust my posts.

How could you possibly misinterpret content such as:

Ad hominem attacks usually suggest you don't have a proper rebuttal. All I offered was a different opinion on a widely suggested reason for disliking Hermione.

***Is there any way to delete a post once it's added (see below post by Amerision to see why)?

I dislike many of the characters JKR created, mostly Mrs. Weasley (how Harry puts up with her overbearing attitude is beyond me), Ron (prick needs to be woken up, via a violent beatdown), and Harry.

Mrs Weasley is someone I would never be able to put up with, if I met in real life, simply because she's the sort of person who looks down upon those who enjoy indepdence, and enjoys those who are submissive (*CoughHarryCough*). Simply said, she needs to be offed via baby-spoon.

Ron is one of the most annoying characters ever concieved, he gets jealous over the peddliest shit, on top of the fact of having an inferiority complex. I mean, I can understand jealousy or the inferiority complex, but putting them together is like mixing water and oil, it just doesn't work.

And Harry is probably the most off-the-wall character ever made. Much like Thalarian stated, this kid should be very anti-social, or a very cold indiviual. 11 years of abuse doesn't equate to a happy-go-lucky person who makes friends at the drop of a hat, and falls in love with someone you just noticed after 5 years. Add to the fact that he has keen observation skills (being a Seeker ain't about luck), and his apparent lack-of-intelligence, and you have a walked contradiction. He should either be keen outside of Quidditch, or an idiot (albiet a lucky one), on the Quidditch field, not both.

What are you talking about? Dumbledore is an awesome character! He's intelligent, powerful, skilled, and good at manipulating people. What more could you want? Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, Dumbledore knows one hell of a lot more than Harry? That maybe, Dumbledore was manipulating Harry for his own good?

Think about it for a second. The way Harry is going, throughout the books, he is going to end up an average wizard with an average life. Perhaps Dumbledore pushed him towards certain situations, like the annual end-of-year fight-to-the-death-with-Voldemort events, so that Harry could end up being better than average. Besides, parents manipulate their children all the time. Teachers and students as well. If you look at any superior and an underling, the superior will, at one time, have prodded the underling in a direction in the hopes that they would improve.

Fanon aside, I would like to see an instance, backed by credible, canon proof, where Dumbledore manipulates anyone into doing something that negatively effected them or the populace overall. It would be possible to argue that by allowing Harry to fight trolls, Cerebrus', Devil's Snare and killer chess pieces, Dumbledore was possibly putting Harry in harm's way, but how do you know that he wasn't waiting in the shadows, ready to step in at a moment's notice?

Personally, Dumbledore is my favorite character. When he is done correctly, he is the most fascinating person to read about.

What would Harry do with any of the information that Dumbledore has access to? We've seen his work ethic. Even when he had something important to do, when he was told to get Slughorn's memory, he forgot, and without Dumbledore's constant prodding, they would have never discovered that Voldemort was using Horcruxes. And, if you bring Dumbledore's lackluster training regimen, look, once again, at Harry's work ethic. He's average in class, and, even when he has Master's of their craft at his beck and call, he doesn't utilize his resources, choosing to remain merely average.

Do you have any proof that he knew that the Dursley's were magic-hating, abusive people? All McGonagall says on page 13 in the U.S. paperback edition of HPSS is that she's never seen two people more unlike the wizarding people, she saw Dudley kicking his mother up the street, screaming for sweets and that they would never understand him. That is not enough evidence to sway Dumbledore's decision.

Also, the decision to place Harry with the Dursleys was a split-second one. The Longbottoms are tortured into insanity, Dumbledore believes that the blood wards will keep Harry from Voldemort/evil/harm as long as he calls the place where his mother's blood dwells home and who else would he go to, anyways? With a normal wizarding family, he would turn out to be worse than Draco Malfoy. With a pureblooded, aristocratic family, he would, quite possibly, be swayed into politics, which we all know leads to evil...just look at Gio! And the Weasley's are struggling to support themselves as is; they don't need another mouth to feed.

In conclusion, Dumbledore is a fantastic character who just might have gotten unlucky with some of his decision-making. To see a Harry raised by a loving, caring family, read LT's Happy Red Prince. That oughta put your fears to rest.

    This thread is hilarious.

    Fuegodefuerza: I liked Dumbledore too.

As far as canon goes, the only character I really hate is Hagrid - who, as has been previously stated, is just boring.

But in fanon, the one who really shits me is Snape. He can be tolerable on rare occasions, like Naia's Anarkia, but it's so often that people completely warp him that's annoying. Like he'll wash his hair and suddenly be the ultimate sex god. Yeah, right. He's meant to be ugly and greasy and horrible, and I wish people would just let him be.

    And Severitus? Agh. :puke:

Hated character huh? That would have to be Ron. In my opinion, if it wasn't for the fact that Ron comes from a poor family that are close to Dumbledore and Muggles...he would totally be another Draco Malfoy. The fact that he IS poor and a "muggle-lover" also gives me the opinion that, although he is meant to be a golden Gryffindor, he is still a prejudice ass. I mean, because some Slytherins turned out to be Voldemort’s lackeys, he assumes that all of them are future death-eaters etc... Plus he did actually strike me as being gay - up until the bit where he snogs Lavender...
On second thoughts, maybe Ron's just in denial?
ahh well.... I also hate Herman. wtf is wrong with her?!?! well... in all fairness, I did kinda like her until I started reading all of the fan fictions where she is a total bitch to Harry and is all "Study, study, study".

I fucking hate Hermione, ron, remus, james potter, molly, Harry, bill, Ginny, and most of all rowling her self.

Hermione cause shes and annoying little bitch who will grow up to be an anal wife, berating and telling off ppl. Shes the biggest bitch in all of the books, after Dumbledore is killed all she can say is how she was right all along about the "prince" what a little fucktard. she didnt listen to Harry all year when he was telling her that malfoy was a DE and now to cover her own ass, and her burned pride she sinks as low as a common whore. Mudblood indeed. stupid bitch. DIE

Ron in a way reminds me of james potter in some ways., he has an overly large head filled with arrogance and a non existent pride. He is rash and most of all stupid and has NO SKILL IN CHESS. i hate it when he is displayed as dumbeldore's master strategist choosing methods to fight VOldemort. THe actor they choose to play the movies did not help either.

Molly cause shes and old fat bitch who reminds me very much of hermione with saggy tits (breast feeding 7 plus other Arthur cause hes such a pussy)

Bill because everyone thinks hes so cool but really hes not.

    Ginny is obvious.

Harry cause in cannon hes nothing but a fuck tard who sits around all day playing chess and running after ginny.

Remus because he acts nothing like a wolf and because ppl in fanon have completely ruined his rep by making him call Harry his "Cub"

Actually to be honest I dislike [Not Hate] everyone [Fanon AND Canon] except:

    o Bellatrix Lestrange
    o Lord Voldemort
    o Albus Dumbledore
    o Tom Riddle
    o Minerva McGonnagal
    o Filius Flitwick

    - The following characters I like when they are given an attitude adjustment:

    o Dark!Sirius
    o SmittenWithHarry!Tonks
    o DLP!Harry
    o GivenaCharacter!Rookwood and Dolohov

These days, everyone is just so annoying. I don't know why, but I can barely stand any other characters who have significant parts in the story.

I don't get all the Hermione-hate on this forum. Ginny, Ron, etc I can see because they haven't really done anything positive for Harry. But without Hermione, Harry would either be dead (Killed by the poison in SS) or he would've failed out of Hogwarts (if that's even possible, considering Crabbe and Goyle). Without her nagging and helping them with their homework, Harry would only have Ron's laziness to influence him and they'd never get anything done. As it is those two barely do enough work to get by, without Hermione they'd be in trouble. I disregard her tantrums in HBP, because as we all know that wasn't written by JK but by some kind of demon hellbent on destroying the HP characters...

Same reason I don't hate Ginny. She's just a nonfactor to me, because she was so underdeveloped in the first 5 books. If we get the shy, reserved Ginny from the first couple of books back I'll probably like her again. If we get Super!Ginny from OoTP and HBP I probably won't.

    As for who I hate:

Ron, obviously, for all the reasons listed before but especially his jealousy. When we have OBHWF is he going to be satisfied as a stay-at-home dad while Hermione is actually doing something with her life?

Dumbledore, because he's the reason Harry's life is so fucked up. I've posted it before, so I don't feel like retyping the whole essay, but I was glad when he died in HBP (even if it's not canon).

Lupin, for being a bitch for 13 years and never trying to get Harry from the Dursleys when he was probably the next choice for guardianship if something happened to them. Then in HBP (doesn't count, doesn't count, doesn't count) he turns Tonks who is one of the more "bubbly" characters into a weeping mess.

There are plenty of others, but those are the big 3.

I don't like Canon!Bill because of JKR's obsession with putting her female characters into either shitty relationships (Hermione/Ron) or creepy ones (Tonks/Lupin, 15 year age gap, Fleur/Bill, 10 year age difference). I want to see a fic where Harry bangs Fleur, Tonks, and Narcissa while Bill, Lupin, and Draco stare in horror.
