A crack fic with Voldemort reincarnated as a cow could be awesome.

Not really. A character should always maintain its essence. Voldemort is hardly recognizable in this story.

    Found this earlier on today,
    https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10937871/1/Blindness
Harry Potter is not standing up in his crib when the Killing Curse strikes him; and the damage done by the cursed scar across his face will not be easily dealt with.

This fic is done by the same person who wrote the story 'With Strength of Steel Wings'. If you cannot remember, that started off with a Harry who, whilst living on the streets, gained metal wings through a convoluted process in which magical people are unable to get tattoos without something going wrong. It's along the same strength as her previous fics to be honest. If you can get the the many different cliches, you will find some interesting takes on magical theory. The turn offs for this fic range from a blind harry to a rather manipulative Dumbledore trying to get Neville to take over the role of the Boy-Who-Lived. All that said, it was a decent time waster which you would enjoy if you managed to make your way through the previously stated story.

Cliché smut fic, pretty well written.

    Heterochromic
Astoria Greengrass wants to set up Harry Potter with her sister, Daphne. But her plans don't really go the way she wants them to. Not your usual Harry/Daphne/Astoria fic. Rated for some language and sexual content.

Just don't give up at the Mary Sue moment. The fic is only 18k words and complete and has a satisfying ending.

So, let's see.. ball-point pen instead of quill. Spouting "Jesus" as though she was raised like a mudblood. Nope, nope, double and triple certified nope to the ends of the earth.

Also, I haven't finished the fic, stopped right at that encounter with Hermione in the library. Seriously?

Time travel with incest? Somehow that doesn't seem like your thing, Taure.

Are you sure we are talking about the same Taure?

Also it was meh. Amusing twist but nothing special.

Read it and was entertained. Taure's advice to persevere past the Mary-Sue moment helped me through it; afterward the context of what was said made it pretty clear which way it would turn.

Had a problem with the scene where Astoria described the plans of her parents, which would, in essence, unmake her in the process. Then again, the situation is a bit extreme so who knows if her reaction isn't appropriate.

I suspected the plot almost as soon as it revealed that Astoria was the heterochromic one. Hardly a twist when it could be seen coming a mile away.

Also, Harry stutters way too much.
He stutters almost every time he talks in the first half of the fic. While modest, he never lacked confidence in canon, certainly not when he was in his sixth year. The stuttering is really fucking annoying.

As for the story, its decent, but hardly anything special. 3/5

    I'm about halfway through...

calling something totally weird. Either Astoria is from the future, or she's their kid from the future. Don't know how that works, but I'm going with it

    Edit

sad about the ending, even if i was right :(

Is there a twist I am not seeing?

I mean I figured out that she was a time traveler from the middle of the story so it didn't shock me, but I feelt like I am missing something when I read the part about Astoria not recognizing her own daughter in epiloge. What was that about?

She suspects the daughter is going to go back in time and do the same thing to her as she did to Daphne. As she has largely fulfilled Daphne's path in the previous timeline, in many ways her daughter is her.

But anyway, as we discovered in IRC, the ending is far more surprising if you're not expecting a twist and you go into it thinking it's a regular clichéd smut fic.

Am going to edit my post above to remove mention of the twist.

Oh damn. I didn't get that at all from first reading it, but I certainly like that better than my interpretation.

I read it as the dissimilarities between her and her daughter (despite the eyes, her not 'recognizing' her daughter) meant that she had definitely unwritten her existence. Which, when thinking on it again, makes little sense.

For a oneshot written in February 2003, this was a decent read. I won't spoil what exactly is happening, you'll have to read it to find out.

Do you really believe anyone here won't immediately know the fic is about cannibalism?

That fic you rec'd was borderline awful, Taure. It could have been really, really good, and the twist did serve its purpose, but the writing leaves a lot be desired. Certainly not library-worthy, IMO. I am not surprised that half the reviews are "I couldn't finish it because its terribad". Example:

The characterization of Astoria is garbage.

That's the whole point, isn't it? It's a bait and switch. It makes you think that it's guilty-pleasure at best trashy romance/smut, then pulls that shit at the end.

It's almost like she's meeting her recently deceased father, and is really excited
