Time for a new thread. Old one has been locked and can be found here.

    Enjoy.

Even if DLP had a separate tab that you could click to subscribe without having to come up with a legitimate post to get to it. That would be nice.

Hmm, a pet peeve of mine is the whole thing where over the course of one summer Harry goes through a big change. Now, I'm not saying that it's an awful idea in general, there's all sorts of changes that can happen over the course of 2 months, perfectly plausible.

Harry could get a change in attitude, brought on by some recent event. Harry could get laid. Harry could even get a haircut. What Harry could not do in 2 months of the summer is miraculously surpass Voldemort, and consequently Dumbledore, in terms of magical prowess. I have no issue with admitting that Harry can learn how to better survive his encounters with Voldemort, and minimize the collateral damage, but to outclass him in the span of a single summer and the following school year at Hogwarts... it would be quite preposterous.

Most fics that do this sort of thing tend to involve the Horcrux within him this or that way.

    Or time travel.

Or training chambers in the bowel of Gringotts.

    You get the gist.

but what if the goblins override the blocks on his magic and show him the potter vaults idk don't the potters have a time-dilation trunk? harry could learn a bunch of cool spells if he spends like 5 years training over the summer plus then he could marry hermione like right away omg that'd be awesome i'm gonna write that.

Ah yes, "the Goblin secret ritual chambers".

We have dismissed that claim. :fire

Pretty much everything related to goblin in Fanon. From goblins being super-nice who just want a wizard to be nice to them to Goblin-Magic is Best-Magic.

Nothing raise my blood pressure faster than reading an otherwise fine piece of writing (fiction or otherwise), and then the writer misused "lose" and "loose", or"to" and "too". In fact, the better the writing, the more annoyed I get upon such a mistake. When they do it, I fucking loose it.

Loose really pisses me off, how would they pronounce that if they read it back? I don't think they do.

"Isn't this a bit unnecessary, Harry?" asked Hermione. "The goblin army, fine. The five flying aircraft carriers might be useful. Even the house-elf cheerleaders could be argued to be good for morale, but don't you think we should loose the dildo trebuchets?"

"You heard 'er lads!" shouted Harry. "LOOSE THE TREBUCHETS!"

You realize it might just be a typo, right? It most likely has nothing to do with the author confusing lose and loose.

Not when it happens consistently for every instance of the word across dozens of stories.

In my experience, that happens just to authors who are not born in an English speaking country. But I also agree that it is really annoying. Even I always keep an eye out for such mistakes in stories.

Your and you're. It seems that even capable to good (kinda) writers do that, almost all of them are also native speakers. It's my biggest grammar pet peeve.

What about 'defiantly' instead of 'definitely'? I've encountered that far too often.
