I've always been fascinated by the Dark Lord and his quest for power and immortality (the latter being something I'd also like to have).

After reading Taure's The White Wizard I knew I wanted to see more tales of our friendly-neighborhood Heir of Slytherin.

Just thought of another one for you. Although this one focuses on Tom and Harry pretty equally, Tom's characterisation is amazing, the author really captures Tom's essence.

it started repeatedly jumping the shark for no reason. If I recall correctly my biggest problems were that magical contracts are bullshit plot destroyers, Dumbledore is less competent then 16 year old Voldemort, and Harry going to Hogwarts again didn't make any sense.

Summary makes it sound awful, and the OC is called Eva to ram home the Hitler parallel a bit more. I read this a long time ago, so take this with a massive grain of salt, but from what I remember this had an interesting and very manipulative, identifiably sociopathic Riddle. It charts his early years becoming Voldemort, and though it's under Romance from what I can remember it's a particularly unhealthy relationship with a massive power imbalance that just about makes the idea of a love interest for Voldemort work. I can't comment on the general quality of the story overall and it might not be to your tastes. Still, I'll put it here anyway just in case.

I knew it was going to be horrid as soon as Tom called Harry his Soulmate.

Such a let down.

 

Damn, that Merope Gaunt raising Tom Fic was a good one. A shame it was left abandoned.

 

I just finished reading it. God damn I want more.

 

Also, there was one Fic I read where Dumbledore quickly pays close attention to Tom after meeting him in the Orphanage, starting by personally taking him to Diagon Alley. Tom has issues with Dumbledore, but you do get the sense Dumbledore's doing his absolute best to make him a good person. I don't remember what it's called, but I do remember it being a decent Fic.

Love the characterisation of Tom in Rectifier.

Tom is still a complete sociopath. Dumbledore just managed to turn this into something positive, by gaining Tom's respect enough that Tom decided he wanted to follow in Dumbledore's footsteps instead of going on a murderous rampage. Dumbledore got Tom to covet the position of being a kind Headmaster more than the position of a Dark Lord.

Tried Solace in Shadows and dropped it. It was a bit cheesy. Guilty pleasure, and I could see why some may enjoy it, but just couldn't get into it at all. Like Tom's characterisation isn't as unbelievable as it seems (being that he's a teenage Horcrux and all), but he's too touchy-feely with Harry all the time.

 

It's played for comedy, but respitechristopher's The Chronicles of the Dark Lord Ginnymort is told from Riddle's POV.

 

This might be the first Fic I ever read that actually took the time to actually develop what Light Magic looks like. I've seen Dark Magic and "Grey" Magic developed before, but I don't think I've ever seen a Fic that actually tried to create a proper Light Magic system.
